  • Behaviour of ultra-high pressure diesel spray and its structure in a constant-volume pressure chamber were studied with injection pressure ranging from 35 to 110MPa. Sprays were observed by using the back illumination scattering method and righ angle scattering method. The spray process mechanism were investigated with both photographs. As a result, the spray angle and air entrainment angle was larger as injection pressure and back pressure increase. It becomes clear that mean air-fuel ratio is increased by increasing the injection pressure.

  • This study investigated the effects of certain specific wavelengths of lighting on the autonomic nervous system (ANS) using the heart rate variability (HRV) as an index. Six subjects with normal color vision participated n this study between 15:00 and 17:00 hr to neutralize any visual differences arising from circadian rhythm. The environmental conditions of the laboratory were maintained in complete darkness and the temperature was equilibrated at 24$\Box$ with a relative humidity of 60%. Subjects were only subjected to light stimulation when the pupil of dyes attained a minimum size of 2 mm by projecting illumination equalized with the same spectral radiance of 500-700 nm with 50-nm internal radiance. HRV was calculated from electrocardiogram (ECG) with systematic respiratory control at 0.35 Hz. The results suggest that illumination with certain wavelengths may induce ANS activation.

  • Usually, the skin pigmentation detection and diagnosis are made by clinicians. In this process it is subjective and non-quantitative. We develop an approach to detect and measure the different pigmentation lesions base on computer vision technology. In the paper we study several usually used skin-detecting color space like HSV, YCbCr and normalized RGB. We compare their performance with illumination influence for detecting the pigmentation lesions better. Base on a relatively stable color space, we propose an approach which is RGB channels vector difference characteristic for the detection. After the object region detection, we also use the difference to measure the difference between the lesion and the surrounding normal skin. From the experiment results, our approach can effectively detect the pigmentation lesion, and perform robustness with different illumination.

  • The loss in contrast-discrimination ability of the human visual system under high ambient illumination level can cause image quality degradation in mobile phones. In this paper, we propose a perceived contrast compensation method by processing the original displayed image. With consideration that the perceived contrast significantly varies across the image, this method extracts the local band contrast from the original image; it then compensates these contrast components to counteract the perceived contrast degradation. Experimental results demonstrate that this method can maintain most contrast details even in high ambient illumination levels.

  • There is provided white light illumination system including a radiation source, a first luminescent material having a peak emission wavelength of about 575 to about 620 nm, a second luminescent material having a peak emission wavelength of about 495 to about 550 nm, which is different from the first luminescent material and a third luminescent material having a peak emission wavelength of about 420 to about 480 nm, which is different from the first and second luminescent materials. The LED may be a UV LED and the luminescent materials may be a blend of three phosphors. A human observer perceives the combination of the blue, green and red phosphor emissions as white light.

  • The purpose of this research is to propose a system to detect a strip defect on a iron plate using an image processing, one way of finding defects on an iron plate. An existing way of image processing is using a light source which release a light energy in a certain frequency and a light absorbing display which responds to the light source. This research attempts to detect defects by using the image processing which handles an illumination, without depending on characteristics of light frequency. One of the advantages of this method is that it makes up for the weakness of the existing method which was too difficult for users to notice a defect. Also this method makes it possible to realize a real-time monitoring on a plate of iron.

  • Recently, the IDS(Intrusion Detection System) using a video camera is an important part of the home security systems which start gaining popularity. However, the video intruder detection has not been widely used in the home surveillance systems due to its unreliable performance in the environment with abrupt illumination change. In this paper, we propose an effective moving edge extraction algorithm from a sequence image. The proposed algorithm extracts edge segments from current image and eliminates the background edge segments by matching them with reference edge list, which is updated at every frame, to find the moving edge segments. The test results show that it can detect the contour of moving object in the noisy environment with abrupt illumination change.

  • The vibration mode shape changed by the phase angle that can be controlled by phase-shifting ESPI system is discussed. For the phase-shifting ESPI experiment the stroboscopic illumination by using AOM(Acousto-Optic Modulator) is needed, and the initial phase angle can be adjusted by the program. The vibration mode shape is changed when the initial phase angle is changed. We examined the vibration mode shape change due to the initial phase angle change at each resonance frequency. Through this study, we found that in the vibration testing using phase-shilling ESPI the vibration mode shape is improved in the quality by adjusting exact phase angle and the error of the quantitative vibration analysis can be reduced.

  • Most rendering research has concentrated on two sub-problems: modeling the reflection of light sources, and calculating the direct and indirect illumination from light sources and other surfaces. As Kolb wrote in [1], the camera and lens model is an important key component of a rendering system. In this paper we describe a bump-mapping method using camera lens. It allows another level of control in rendering. We developed an efficient framework to develop customized bump mapping lens and combine with other sequence of lens elements to create various effects as shown in Figure 2,3,4,5.

  • In this paper, we take some features for face recognition out of face image, using a simple type of templates. We use the extracted features to do Adaboost learning for face recognition. Using a carefully-chosen feature among these features, we can make a weak face classifier for face recognition. And doing Adaboost learning on and on with those chosen several weak classifiers, we can get a strong face classifier. By using Adaboost Loaming, we can choose particular features which is not easily subject to changes in illumination and facial expression about several images of one person, and construct face recognition system. Therefore, the face classifier bulit like the above way has robustness in both facial expression and illumination variation, and it finally gives capability of recognizing face fast due to the simple feature.
