  • A new taxon of Ilex is described from Wando Island, Province Jeonnam, Korea. Ilex x wandoensis C. F. Miller & M. Kim hybrid nov. originates from the natural hybridization of the parent species, I. cornuta Thunb. and I. integra Thunb. Leaves of the new taxon have smooth, spinose margins, a condition that is intermediate between the twisted, spinose leaf margins of I. cornuta and the smooth, entire margins of I. integra. The new hybrid species shares several characters with its two parents, including evergreen leaves, dioecy, and red drupes.

  • These studies had performed a plans for preservation and distribution of Ilex cormuta community Mt. Keumsung($35^{\circ}05'\;N,\;126^{\circ}04'\;E$) in Naju, Chonnam from Arpil, 1997 to October by Braun-Blanquet' method(1964). According to the vegetation table of community, the plant communities of the investigated sites were classified Ilex corunta-Trachelospermum asiaticum var. intermedium commnity. Now there still remains the natural environment to be developed in coast district around the riverside distributing Ilex cornuta Lindl., so it has scientifically high value to predict change of the ecosystem and preserve the community distribution. It needs plan for preservation high value to predict change of the ecosystem and preserve the community distribution. It needs plan for preservation

  • The objectives of this study were investigation of the sutiable propagation method by softwood cuttings of female Ilex serrata, the comparison of sex determination of Ilex serrata after seeding and the fruiting percentage of the Ilex serrata male and female. The results obtained were as follows. 85 percentage of the seed were germinated with three months cold stratification. 35 percentage of female plant were observed after seeding. Cuttings should be rooted on late June using a quick dipping of 1,000ppm IBA solution. The rooting rate of the softwood cuttings treated IBA 1,000pm on June 22 in a closed moist chamber with 50% shade screen was 72.2 percentage. The suitable planting of male and female of Ilex serrata was male one versus female thirteen in a distance of 50 meter.

  • Six compounds were isolated from the twigs of Ilex macropoda. Their structures were elucidated as betulinic acid, lupeol, betulone, betulin, erythrodiol and 11-oxo-erythrodiol by physicochemical and spectroscopic analysis. Among them, lupeol, betulone, erythrodiol and 11-oxo-erythrodiol were isolated for the first time from this plant.

  • Methanol extract of Ilex pubescens roots prolonged bleeding time threefold, and inhibited the generation of malondialdehyde released during platelet aggregation inducted by thrombin. Through several purification procedures, its saponin, named ilexoside, was proved to be responsible for the antithrombotic activities of the plant. Ilexosides A, -D and -J and 24-carboxypomolic acid showed strong inhibitory activities on platelet aggregation induced by thrombin.

  • Four triterpenoids were isolated from the roots of Ilex pubescens : two new triterpenoids named pubescenolic acid (I) and pubescenic acid (II), and two known triterpenoids ilexolic acid (III) and oleanolic acid (IV). Chemical and spectroscopic studies have established I and II as 20-epipomolic acid and 24-carboxypomolic acid, repectively.

  • Tar spots have been observed on Ilex cornuta in Korea since 2015. Based on morphological and molecular analyses, the fungus responsible was determined to be a Rhytisma species, with characteristics similar to R. ilicis-latifoliae observed on Ilex latifolia from Japan. Herein, we document the first report of Rhytisma sp. on I. cornuta.
