  • In this paper we develop an electronic starter circuit that is suitable for Neon sign operation of switch-start fluorescent lamps. The developed starter enable single pulse ignition of fluorescent lamp at the peak point of preheating current, irrespective of the position of the Tum-On signal. This is possible due to the sequential operation of two transistors different in their operation characteristics and a diode operation characteristic. The switching endurance test using this starter has been carried for more than 3000 hours for a single switch-start on a severe blinking condition of preheating of 0.1s and of successive lighting interval of 0.1s.

  • A propellant mainly consisting of nitric ester including nitrocellulose and nitroglycerine is characteristic of being decomposed naturally. And this phenomenon is known as being affected mostly by its storing temperature and humidity. In this research, the effect of storing temperature and humidity on self life has been studied by measuring the contained quantity of residual stabilizer of propellant KM30Al, which are parts of 155MM propelling charge K676 and K677; the method for the measurement is acceleration aging test, and decomposition reaction equation, Eyring Equation and Berthlot Equation were used for the calculation. As result of this study, it was found that the storing temperature influenced seven times as large as the storing humidity upon the self life of the propellant KM30Al, Furthermore, especially in the high temperature region, the storing temperature had a dominant effect on the self life.

  • Capacitive current switching test for circuit breaker and load breaker switch requires special attention because, after current interruption, the capacitive load contains an electrical charge and can cause dielectric restrike and re-ignition of the switching devices. therefore dielectric strength of capacitor load bank shall be able to withstand 4Vt (Vt : test voltage) and charging voltage discharged within 1 min. In this paper presents both characteristic of capacitive current switching tests and design of capacitor load bank.

  • The objective of this work is to investigate the effect of swirl, injection pressure and pilot injection on D.I.Diesel combustion by using a transparent engine system. The test engine is equipped with common rail injection system to obtain high pressure and to control injection timing and duration. In this study, the combustion analysis and steady flow test were conducted to estimate the heat release rate from in-cylinder pressure and pilot injection was investigated by using LII technique. As the results, high injection pressure was found to shorten ignition delay as well as enhance peak pressure and heat release rate was greatly affected by injection timing and pilot injection. In addition, the results showed that the period of soot formation corresponded to the diffusion flame.

  • Combustion characteristic, concentration of NOx and exhaust smoke opacity was experimentally tested, according to fuel injection timing, mixing ratio of water and methanol for the driving condition of 2000 rpm of engine revolution and constant load(7.5kg/cm$^{2}$) using emulsified fuel of gas oil-water methanol. The result obtained was as following. Thermal efficiency indicated highly 0.4-2.7% for emulsified fuel then gas oil, and injection timing when maximum thermal efficiency, slicily risen then gas oil. For constant fuel injection timing ignition lag was increased, combustion duration decreased, maximum heat release rate indicated high, and concentration of NOx and exhaust smoke opacity is decreased, as function of water and methanol content y was higher.

  • In this paper, we present scavenge characteristics in a small subchamber of HCCI. It is very important to enhance scavenge rate because ignition in a chamber sometimes does not happen. To understand this phenomenon numerical tool was performed using the FLUENT which is a commercial code. Focus is given to the effect on the scavenge rate of the geometric factor that is the angle of nozzle injection. The numerical results show that the scavenge ones in the subchamber heavily depend on the nozzle angle. It was found that the scavenge rate is more effective at angled nozzle.

  • In this paper, we analyzed the operating characteristics of a ventilating fan due to overload and overheating. The experiment assumed the forcible restraint of the blade due to external objects and the aging process. We analyzed the experimental temperature and operating characteristics of the three places in the interior of the ventilating fan. As a result of the analysis, the temperature distribution was highest to lowest in the following order: the thermal fuse, the motor inside, and the above winding. There was smell of burning enamel in the restraint experiment. Following the thermal fuse operation, the insulation of motor winding was good. In the case of rated voltage and new ventilating fan restrained for about 4hours, and the results of restraint experiments in the presence or absence of the thermal fuse, no risk of deformation or fire due to overheating was identified. Henceforward, ignition hazard experiments will be required for additional factors of aging, pollution, and defective insulation.

  • Five parts of vehicle upholsteries were sampled to determine its combustion characteristics. Oxygen Indexer, Smoke chamber, Differential Scanning Calorimetry(DSC) are applied as the analysis apparatus. All LOI values of samples appear less than 21. The combustion phenomena of vehicle upholster primarily depends on properties of each layer material. The amount of smoke generated is the experiment reached the maximum value within 30-90sec after ignition. The experimental results of combustion characteristics and DSC of H/Line also indicated that the layer of foam was melt first and it caused the propagation of flame through the sample. The combustion characteristics of multi layer materials primarily depend on thermal characteristic of single layer material.

  • The effects of pressure and temperature on the autoignition of propane and n-butane blends were investigated using a rapid compression machine (RCM) , which is widely used to examine the autoignition characteristics. The RCM was designed to be capable of varying the compression ratio between 5 and 20 and minimize the vortex formation on the cylinder wall using a wedge-shaped crevice. The initial temperature and pressure of the compressed gas were varied in range of 720∼900 K and 1.6∼ 1.8 MPa, respectively, by adjusting the ratio of the specific heat of the mixture by altering the ratio of the non-reactive components (N$_2$, Ar) under a constant effective equivalence ratio (ø$\_$f/= 1.0) The gas temperature after the compression stroke could be obtained from the measured time-pressure record. The results showed a two-stage ignition delay and a Negative Temperature Coefficient (NTC) behavior which were the unique characteristic of the alkane series fuels. As the propane concentration in the blend were increased from 20% and 40% propane, the autoignition delay time increased by approximately 41 % and 55% at 750 K. Numerical reduced kinetic modeling was performed using the Shell model, which introduced some important chemical ideas, represented by the generic species. Several rate coefficients were calibrated based on the experimental results to establish an autoignition model of the propane and n-butane blends. These coefficients can be used to predict the autoignition characteristics in LPG fueled Sl engines.
