  • Neuromuscular difference between normal subjects and low-back pain patients has been identified in terms of neural excitation signal measured by Electromyography (EMG) under the dynamic flexion/extension trunk motion. Ten healthy subjects and ten low-back pain patients were recruited for this study. New parameters and normalization technique were introduced to quantify the muscle excitation pattern among the flexor-extensor pairs of muscles : rectus abdominis (RA)-erector spinae (ES at L1 and L5 level), external oblique (EO)-internal oblique (IO), rectus femoris (quadricep : QUD)-biceps femoris( hamstring : HAM), and tibialis anterior (TA)-gastrocnemius (GAS). Results indicated that the temporal EMG pattern such as peak timing difference between the hip flexor (QUD) and extensor (HAM) and the duration of coexcitation between ES at L5 and RA muscle pairs showed a statistically significant difference between normal subjects and low-back pain patients. Improtantly, this study presented a new technique to identify the dynamic muscle excitation pattern that canb be least affected by EMG-length-velocity relationship. Further study can performed to validate this method for clinical application to quantitatively identify the low-back pain patients in the future.

  • The purpose. of this study were to identify the types of consumer affective responses to investigate the attitude formation process on the apparel advertising and to identify the differences among related variables according to the sensation seeking and the brand famili-arity. The result of this study were as follows: 1. The consumer affective responses on ap-parel dvertising was composed of six dimensions; Upbeat feeling Negative feeling Warm feeling Sensual feeling Emotional feel-ing and Uninvolved feeling. 2. The related variables to consumer responses on apparel advertising were signifi-cant differences according to the sensation seeking and the brand familiarity. 3. The main causal course on the apparel ad-vertising was the consumer affective responselongrightarrowthe advertising attitudelongrightarrowthe brand evalu-ationlongrightarrowthe brand attitudelongrightarrowthe purchase in-tention. Also there were differences in atti-tude formation process according to the con-sumer affective respeonses.

  • This study focuses on development of a finite element model for analysis of thermal characteristics of a direct-connection spindle of a machining center by joint simulation of heat transfer and thermal deformation. Two finite element analyses were carried out procedurally for heat transfer, first, to identify temperature distribution of components of the spindle and then for thermal deformation to identify their structural behavior based on the temperature distribution. It was assumed that the heat transfer between a component revolving and the surrounding air is identical to that between a flat plate and the running air on it and the heat transfer is based on a uniform surface heat flux for turbulent flow. The results from the analyses were compared with those from experiments to validate the finite element model.

  • A multiplex PCR assay targeting the yst and 16S rRNA genes of Yersinia enterocolitica was developed to specifically identify pathogenic Y. enterocolitica from pure culture. Simultaneous amplification of 145 and 416 bp fragments of the yst and 16S rRNA genes of Y. enterocolitica was obtained using the primer pairs in a single reaction. Validation of the assay was performed with the reference Yersinia strains and other members of the family Enterobacteriaceae. The defined primer pairs amplified the targeted sequence from only pathogenic Y. enterocolitica strains, whereas none of the other bacterial species yielded any amplified fragments. Within an assay time of 4 h, this assay offers a very specific, reliable, and inexpensive alternative to the conventional phenotypic assays used in clinical laboratories to identify pathogenic Y. enterocolitica.

  • The developed method is proposed to identify rotor dynamic parameters. The method known imbalance vector, which renders over-determined linear system equation. The solution of the system equation can be obtained using least square method. The sensitivity analysis is performed to extract optimized solution, which is considered to be insensitive to inherent measurement errors. As an alternative approach to identify the parameters of bearings and rotor, adding a known imbalance to the rotor produces another equation set to make the system equations over-determined and linearly independent.

  • The issues of preventive and condition-based maintenance, online monitoring, system fault detection, diagnosis and prognosis are of increasing importance. This study introduces a technique to detect and identify faults in induction motors. Stator currents were measured and stored by time domain. The time domain is not suitable for representing current signals, so wavelet transform is used to convert the signals onto frequency domain. The raw signals can not show the significant feature, therefore difference values between the signal of the health conditions and that of the fault conditions are applied. The difference values were transformed by wavelet transform and the features are extracted from the transformed signals. The dynamic time warping method was used to identify the fault type. This study describes the results of detecting fault using wavelet analysis.

  • Vibration table is required to obtain high packing density in lost form casting process. Packing density, which is important manufacture factor, depends on the vibration pattern induced by vibration table. In general, circular vibration pattern is recognized as the best pattern. The existing vibration table is investigated to identify current vibration pattern and consider a countermeasure. Modal test is utilized to identify the dynamic characteristics of vibration table, and finite element method is used to present the improved design

  • The wind tunnel test to identify the acoustic noise source position of the wind turbine blade was conducted in KARI low speed wind tunnel. Microphone array and time-domain beamforming methodology was applied to this study. To reduce the data processing time, a modified beamforming method with a criteria between calculation time step and grid size for rotating angle in the cylinderical coordinate system was proposed. The test results shows that the data processing time to identify the noise source position was reduced to 20% compared with conventional method. And the dominant noise source of the blade moves from inboard to blade tip as the frequency increases.

  • For several decades many researchers have studied various algorithms, known as non-destructive testing, to identify abnormalities within a structure. Damage detection technique using vibration signal is a kind of these methods. Many researchers have published lots of papers dealing vibration signal to identify structural damage. All the methods for damage detection using vibration signal can be divided into two big categories. The first category is the method that requires some reference model such as finite element model, and the second is the method that does not require any reference model but needs only experimental data. This paper will be devoted to classify damage detection methods that utilize vibration signal.
