  • This paper focuses on the reduction method of message traffic occurred when multiple participants collaborate in the distributed virtual environment. It is referred to as filtering method of update message to minimize data traffic exchanged in the virtual environment, and it is the essential process to improve the scalability of the virtual environment. Spatial partitioning method, a popular filtering technique, divides the whole environment into smaller sub-parts in order to make it small the regions to be maintained consistently. However, it is less flexible and adaptable because the information of area of interest must be configured before simulation. In this paper, the concept of dynamic area of interest is proposed, which is highly adaptable by applying dynamic environmental elements to AOI management. It uses multiple layering and multiple consistency algorithms for dynamic management, and makes it possible to consume system resource efficiently. For performance evaluation, experiments are performed with virtual avatars, measuring message traffic. Finally, the proposed model could be applied to the AOI management systems which accommodate massive users like MMORPG, or virtual communities.

  • This survey is related to the status of education for environmental managers, who are taking charge of pollution control untilities, and its analyses. This survey is also discussing the improvements of educational course for the trainees, who have already been educated in environmental background as well as its problems. The 45% of in-service trainees were those who had graduated more than a junior college. But under the 50% of them were those who had school careers of less than a high a high school, which means that the trainees have trouble in acquiring the professional knowledges on environmental educations such as the lectures and the practice educations. All over the country, 46 junior colleges, and 65 universities which have a environmental education program, have produced the graduates who major in the environment. Therefore, it is demanded that they should be properly treated. In this research work, it is shown that the 76% of environmental managers have no certificate of environmental study. It is thought that this has resulted from the released environmental law; the untilities of the first and second grade need a manager with a certificate related with environment, the third grade utilities only need a manager with a non-specified certificate related with environment or a manager with more than 3 years environmental practice careers, the fourth and fifth grade utilities do not need the certificate related to environment. In view of relation between environment pollutions and the management of environmental utilities, it is thought that present environmental laws should be improved to be strict. The fact that the differences in regions or utilities are not considered in the contents of texts, has reduced the efficiency of education. Therefore, it is needed that the experts and the in-service managers should take part in the development of the text. In this survey, the more than 20% of trainees have negative opinions about the result of this education, which means that overall the environmental practice education should be reconsidered. In the educational methodology, more than 50% of trainees have the opinion that they want spot speciations, the audio-visual educations and the practice. Therefore, it is demaned that the subjects, syllabus, and the allotment of time ect, should be reorganized for the more practical education.

  • It has been well known that it is not easy to quantify pollutant loads driven by non-point source pollution due to various factors affecting generation and transport mechanism of it. Especially pollutant loads through baseflow have been investigated by limited number of researchers. Thus in this study, the Web-based WAPLE (WHAT-Pollutant Load Estimation) system was developed and applied at study watersheds to quantify baseflow contribution of pollutant. In YbB watershed, baseflow contribution with WWTP discharge is responsible for 49.5% of total pollutant loads at the watershed. Among these, pollutant loads through baseflow (excluding any WWTP discharge) is responsible for 61.7% of it. In GbA watershed, it was found that 58.4% is contributed by baseflow with WWTP discharge 2.9% and 97.1% is by baseflow. For NbB watershed (without WWTP discharge), 52.3% of pollutant load is transported through baseflow. As shown in this study, it was found that over 50.0% of TN (Total Nitrogen) pollutant loads are contributed by non-direct runoff. Thus pollutant loads contributed by baseflow and WWTP discharge as well as direct runoff contribution should be quantified to develop and implement watershed-specific Best Management Practices during dry period.

  • This paper presents an advanced method of simulation for EM(electromagnetic) environment that affects on mobile receivers. A new calibration algorithm in the process of simulation is introduced. With a proposed calibration method, the time required for simulation is reduced and this makes it possible to simulate a near-real time EM environment in a shielded anechoic chamber. EM environment data acquisition and logging techniques with GPS for simulation were developed.

  • Since the Intelligent Building was first introduced in early 1980s, It has been studied and designed by related technical experts as it was called by the name of intelligent Building, High-tech Intelligence Building, High-capacity Building, Intellectual Building, etc. Despite the need for new concept as the relation between global environment and architecture has become an issue on a full scale since 1990s and with the development of high technology, former concept is maintained without modification or complement. Especially, attempt to combine industrial technology with architecture is essential to Intelligent Building, therefore frequent opportunity of self-innovation according to the development of technology is necessary. Due to the rarity of the high-technology and its high cost, it was adopted to large-scale construction, however, nowadays, almost all kinds of buildings are getting designed with intelligent-technology. Therefore we can expect that this trend will be accelerated by evolution of technology and will position as a major stream of future architecture along with environment-friendly architecture. Through this process, we should fully be aware of the importance of the several intelligent skin technology to protect global environment and to set future direction in architecture.

  • Creativity is one of the most popular keyword used in today's society due to it's important role as the major post modern economic drive force. Richard Florida calls the group of people who work in this creative industry as the 'Creative Class' and this theory has affected many organizations and cities. However, little is known about the work environment of this class, so many designers find it difficult to understand how they may encourage creativity in the actual physical setting. Therefore the purpose of this research is to understand the major characteristics of this 'Creative Class' and their working styles in order to develop a theoretical framework for the creative work environment and present a case study of NHN Company main office building. The researcher has indicated three major characteristics of the creative work environment such as 'Individuality', 'Socialization', and 'Experiential' and through the developed framework found that in NHN building 'Socialization' through overlapping territories and programs, spatial openness were used as key methods of encouraging creativity. It is hoped that this research may be used as a useful guide in designing various types of creative work environment for the future.

  • Cultural heritages are damaged by surrounding several environmental factors. Main factors are temperature, humidity, light, atmosphere and indoor pollutant, organism, etc. Therefore, to prevent damage of cultural heritage from such environmental factor, conservation environment monitoring becomes more important. Indicator is one of the simple method for environment monitoring. It can be used without expensive and complex equipments. However, it should be performed scientific examination for application to cultural heritage. In this study, some Temperature Indicators were chosen and reliability assessment was carried out for application to cultural heritage. Brightness($L^*$) is selected for reliability assessment factor. As a result of lab test, Temperature Indicators were not influenced greatly in humidity change. When they were exposed to setting temperature, the color was changed in setting temperature area and ${\pm}2^{\circ}C$ part of setting temperature. Especially brightness value was high in setting temperature area. Also, Temperature Indicators were stabilized after about 16 minutes when were exposed to temperature difference of $10^{\circ}C$ and when temperature difference with exposure environment is smaller, stabilization time shortened. Therefore, it is a possible to confirm that selected Temperature Indicator is reliable product through measurement of color difference value and naked eye observation.

  • The purpose of this study is to review the labor force partitpation rate and work environment characteristics of female workers to provide basic information for establishment and implementation of effective policies related to accident prevention and workers health protection for female workers. It was analyzed employment status, work environment and injuries and illnesses based on economic activity census results, compensation of industrial injury and the second working condition survey. According to economic activity census results, female labor force participation rate has been steadily increased, whereas male labor force participation rate has been decreased since 1970. Industrial accident rate has been declined in male workers but that in female workers has been steadily increased even though male workers were higher accident rate than female workers. It was evaluated that female workers are vulnerable to industrial injuries and illnesses in the aspect of their working environment and employment status. Also, Substantial differences between female and male workers in occupational exposure patterns, occupational disease and occupational environments were observed. Therefore it was recommended that special care programs for female workers such as a specialized monitoring and management program should be introduced in the near future.
