In recent years, many leading corporations are actively adopting IT as competitive resources to improve productivity and processes efficiency with strategic alignments. In effect, IT investment also continues to increase. As a vast growth of IT investment, questions and criticism on recent IT investment results are also rapidly being raised. Especially, improper decision making and management on IT investment may cause negative impact on the company's reputation and finances, therefore companies need reasonable and wise investment decision making on new IT projects. This study applies the conceptual framework of IT governance to IT investment decision making cases to examine how IT investment governance influences the quality of IT investment decision making and how business-IT strategic alignment affects the quality of IT investment decision making. This paper contributes to identify the main factors for reasonable and effective IT investment decision making and expected to provide proper guidelines for IT investment decision making.

The interest in economics and efficiency of IT investment is growing as the amount of overall governmental IT investment steadily increase. Accordingly, there is a strong need to determine whether the expenditure incurs effectively for IT investment and to accurately analyze the economics of IT investment, In this perspective, this study discusses the prior researches on concepts regarding the analysis of IT investment management framework as proposed from academic and professional perspectives in advanced countries' government sectors. Thereafter, an adoption of IT investment management (ITIM) framework has been considered so as to enhance the performance of ICT initiative projects in the public sector. In the suggested IT investment management framework, we suggest economics and efficiency of public IT investment should be improved by integrating ICT project selection and control as well as evaluation stage into single governance framework.

Although actual business environment is getting difficult and hard, IT companies tend to shy away from of annual investment. Many firms have already reached the 25 percent level. However, the profit and the result of their annual investment needs to be evaluated objectively. IT investment analysis usually proceeds by comparing benefits and costs of an IT investment. Much of the problem derives from the historical treatment of IT as an overhead expense rather than a capital asset. What is most worrying about the current situation is the pressure to take a very short-term view of IT. Therefore, this research aims to analyses and justify the necessity of Visionary IT Investment. For this, it is crucial to identify the factors, which affect positively Visionary IT Investment and understand the role of CIO and explain the result of Visionary IT Investment, which is differed to related business and by different business environment. As a result of this study, the legitimacy of IT Investment is proved through analyzing the business value of not investing and cost-avoidance strategies.

Recently, many South Korean firms have suffered financial losses and damaged corporate images from the data breaches. Accordingly, a firm should manage their IT assets securely through an information security investment. However, the difficulty of measuring the return on an information security investment is one of the critical obstacles for firms in making such investment decisions. There have been a number of studies on the effect of IT investment so far, but there are few researches on information security investment. In this paper, based on a sample of 76 investment announcements of firms whose stocks are publicly traded in the South Korea's stock market between 2001 and 2017, we examines the market reaction to information security investment by using event study methodology. The results of the main effects indicate that self-developed is significantly related to cumulative average abnormal returns (CAARs), while no significant effect was observed for discloser, investment characteristics and firm characteristics. In addition, we find that the market reacts more favorably to the news announced by the subject of investment than the vendor, in case of investments with commercial exploitation. One of main contributions in our study is that it has revealed the factors affecting the market reaction to announcement of information security investment. It is also expected that, in practice, corporate executives will be able to help make an information security investment decision.

During the past decade a great deal of attention has focused on the impact of IT investment. However, many related studies have frequently generated controversial or inconsistent results. These results imply that the relationship between IT investment and performance is complex and multifaceted. And empirical studies with new analytical techniques are badly needed to examine the way IT investment interacts with various organizational and environmental elements to influence corporate performance. Accordingly a study of IT investment needs to make a contingency approach to determining the level of IT investment based on the competitive strategy in a macro perspective. The basic purpose of this research is to analyse the relationship between IT investment and IT effectiveness and to identify the moderating effect of competitive strategy in the relationship. The results showed that there is no relationship between IT investment and IT effectiveness, and the competitive strategy can be considered as a significant moderating variable between IT investment and IT effectiveness.

시장 환경 변화가 심한 상황에서 정보화로 기대되는 효과가 기업의 성과에 직결되지 않는 한 적극적인 IT 투자는 기대하기 어렵다. 경영자의 IT투자 의사결정을 유도하기 위해서는 IT투자의 사전평가를 통해 그 투자의 타당성을 입증하는 것이 중요하다. 본 논문은 IT 투자와 그 투자에서 얻어지는 효과를 사전에 분석하여 투자타당성을 평가할 수 있는 방법론을 제시한다. 이 방법론은 IT 소유비용을 체계적으로 분석해서 가시적 인 비용뿐만 아니라 숨겨진 비용도 파악한다. 또한 IT투자로 인한 재무적인 효과와 비재무적인 효과를 화폐가치화 하여 IT ROI를 산출한다. 본 논문은 IT 투자의 객관적인 투자 타당성을 평가하여 IT 투자 의사결정을 지원하고 효율적 인 IT 투자가 이루어질 수 있는 체 계를 제시한다.

Investment in research and development (R&D) is critical in the information technology (IT) firms, where newer and better technology is a quintessential goal that directly affects innovation and competitive advantage. This study investigates how R&D investment influences firm performance and value, and how the effect of R&D investment differs between IT hardware and software firms. We also analyze the relationship between firm age and R&D investment in order to identify learning effects on continuous R&D investment. The empirical investigation in this study, based on longitudinal archival data from 2001 to 2010, found a significant effect of R&D investment on firm performance in IT firms. Further, this study demonstrates causal relationship between firm age, and verifies that learning effects are present in R&D investment. Moreover, the results are found to differ between IT hardware and IT software firms.

This paper analyzes the influence of entrepreneurial orientation, international market orientation, and investment performance of Korean SMEs in Vietnam on sequential investment. As a result of analyzing the research model using PLS SEM, it was found that Korean SMEs make sequential investments based on investment performance rather than entrepreneurial orientation or international market orientation. In addition, entrepreneurial orientation increased internationa market orientation and had a positive effect on investment performance, which was found to have a positive effect on sequential investment. Through this study, it was clarified that there is a difference between the determinants of initial investment and sequential investment, and it was confirmed that Korean companies show stable and strategic sequential investment tendency rather than proactive and bold investment in Vietnam. In addition, the mediating effect of international market orientation and investment performance in sequential investment was confirmed. In addition, it was confirmed that entrepreneurial orientation was a valid factor in the indirect effect of sequential investment. In the future, for high entrepreneurial orientation Korean companies entered the Vietnamese market, there will be a need for policy support to provide information on Global Value Chain in Vietnam and establish networks on the country.

This paper investigated the causal relationship between IT investment and economic performance with the office, computing and accounting machinery (OCAM) and gross domestic product (GDP) statistics from the United States for the period 1961 to 2001. Due to non-stationary aspects of the series, found by unit root tests, it was deemed applicable to apply growth models using the first difference of the series. The results indicate that IT investment growth at the country level do not only cause economic performance growth, but are also caused by economic performance growth. While IT investment growth affect economic performance growth over shorter time periods, economic performance growth affect IT investment growth over longer time periods. As a result, this study reveals IT investment growth have the preceding effect on economic performance growth, and then economic performance growth impact subsequently on IT investment growth.

급변하는 기업 환경에서는 비즈니스 및 기술 환경의 변화 및 경영관리의 복잡성 증가로 인하여 경영의 효율적인 지원을 위한 효과적인 IT 투자 관리의 필요성이 부각되고 있다. 따라서 본 논문의 목적은 학술 및 비즈니스 관점에서의 이론 및 실용성에 근거한 효율적 IT 투자관리 체계 수립을 위한 관련 이슈들을 논의하고 분석하는데 있다. 본 연구의 의의는, IT 투자관리체계 구축상의단계별 이슈를 기존 이론과 A사의 구축사례를 통해 살펴보고 IT 투자관리 지표 도출 및 투자관리체계 구축을 위한 가이드라인을 기업들에게 제시함으로써 기업의 IT 평가 업무의 효율성을 증대시키는 것이다.
