Exploratory Study on the method to improve performance in construction process by applying Six-Sigma Principle (6시그마 개념을 도입한 건설공사의 성과향상에 관한 탐색적 연구)

  • Recently there has been huge efforts to improve performance in construction process by applying emerging techniques such as the Lean principle, Just-in-time concept and so on. However, little achievement as we expected has come out in reality due to the lack of strategy to set a definite goal of the execution and differences of personal viewpoints on construction productivity. Accordingly, it is the most important to promote the circumstances for the construction process improvement by quantifying the goals of respective unit activity groups. This research explores feasible solutions for the improvement of construction projects performance by combining the six-sigma principle for the generic administrative innovation based on the idea of construction process performance. For this purpose, mutual comparisons of various current approaches are performed in an attempt to establish the advantages in applying six-sigma idea and to provide its fundamental strategy. Furthermore, through a case study with the simulation of applying six-sigma to a unit activity group in construction process, this paper verifies that the overall performance improves as the degree of sigma level gets advanced.

The Incremental Information Content of Accruals Components of Earnings for Stock Return:Discretionary Accruals and Non-Discretionary Accruals (주식수익률에 대한 회계이익 구성요소의 추가적 정보가치:재량적 발생액과 비재량적 발생액)

  • This study examines the relation between accruals components of earnings and stock return. Earnings are decomposed into four components: discretionary accruals, nondiscretionary accruals, nondiscretionary income and cash flow from operations. Because reported earnings in financial statement consist of cash flow from operations plus total accruals. We decompose total accruals into a discretionary accruals and a nondiscretionary accruals separately, This paper examines the incremental informational content of discretionary accruals and nondiscretionary accruals components of net income by regressing return on earnings'components in multivariate models. The empirical analysis is conducted on a sample of 1,580 firm-years comprising 158 firms during 1984-1995. Discretionary accruals are obtained by decomposing total accruals into discretionary and nondiscretionary accruals components, using a pooled variation of the Jones model(1991). These findings suggest that the discretionary accruals(measured using a variation the Jones model) is priced by the stock market. Specifically, the discretionary accruals and cash flow from operations are positively associated with the stock return, and also nondiscretionary income, discretionary accruals are positively associated with the stock return. While this result is consistent with the market prices the discretionary accruals because it captures value-relevant information. Additional test report evidence consistent with nondiscretionary accruals conveying information about the stock return.

  • The purpose of this study is to understand how and what kind of service quality impacts value of membership and customer satisfaction, and to analyze how value of membership and customer satisfaction influence on customer loyalty in order to apply the results of this study to the management level of individual companies. The valuable outcomes of the survey were 485 as a result of excluding both no response and non-trustful answers. The previous used questions of other researchers were modified and used in this study, and both SPSS 12.0 and AMOS 7.0 were in use as analytical softwares In this study, service quality of golf resort positively impacts membership's value, and service quality influences upon customer satisfaction in a positive way. The value of service quality heavily impacts customer satisfaction, and customer satisfaction positively influences upon customer loyalty. On the other hand, it is hardly find a remark between value of loyalty and customer's satisfaction.

Possibilities and Challenges of the Citizen Participation in Regional Planning : Case of Jecheon Citizen Group for Urban Planning (시민참여형 지역계획 수립의 가능성과 과제 - 제천시 시민계획단 운영 사례를 중심으로 -)

  • The purpose of this paper is to review the process of collaborative planning from the case of the Jecheon Citizen Group for Urban Planning(JCGUP). The JCGUP was composed of 4 subdivisions including industry/economy, urban regeneration/infra, health/welfare, and environment/tourism. The operation period was from October 16 to November 30, 2012, and the 67 citizens and 25 staffs participated in the JCGUP. The plenary sessions were scheduled to be held three times. Topics of 1st, 2nd, and 3rd sessions were pending issues of Jecheon, vision and goals for 2025, and strategies for accomplishing those vision and goals, respectively. Policy implications of the JCGUP was as follows. It functions as a tool to bring interests in civic planning and policies, and be an effective way to collect public opinions. Moreover, those opinions could be used as strategies and action plans in regional planning of Jecheon. This study can offer insights into how to manage and develop the citizen group for urban planning to help promote collaborative planning process in practice.

A Study on Priority of Innovation Activity, Business Performance and Maximization Factors of SMEs. (중소기업의 혁신활동과 사업성과 극대화 요인의 우선순위 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the priorities of innovation activities, business performance, and maximization factors of SMEs. Support programs for each government department are operated by various industries. Various supports, including subsidies, grants, marketing, planning, and education, are provided to each company. Therefore, this study aims to analyze and identify the priorities of innovation activities that have a positive effect on business performance. The efficacy of the proposed model and the psychometric properties of structure were analyzed using the analytic hierarchy process (AHP). The hierarchical structure of corporate innovation activities are composed of 'R&D' and 'government support', and 'Inside R&D, Outsourcing R &D, Consortium R&D'. As a result of analyzing companies that received more than one type of R&D government support, it can be seen that 'government support' (72.1%) is more important than 'research and development' (27.8%). In addition, this study found key sub-factors loadings including Assistant Support (30.1%), Tax Support (22.7%), Funding Support (18.8%), Inside R&D (10.8%), Outsourcing R&D (10.3%), and Consortium R&D (7.2%). Analysis results suggest that the priorities of detailed innovation activities of R&D and government support affect product innovation and process innovation, which in turn, influence business performance and maximization of SMEs. This implies that SMEs who want to participate in the government support project will be helpful in setting the direction of innovation activities. This study also suggests the importance of strategic priorities among the decision elements for CEOs.

A study on the Effect of consultants' competency on Organizational performance through service quality: focusing on organizational creativity and innovation (컨설턴트의 역량이 서비스 품질을 통해 조직성과에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구: 조직 창의성과 혁신성 중심으로)

  • This study examined the effects of management consultant competency (ability, professionalism) and consulting service quality (reliability, assurance) on organizational creativity and innovation. The research target was companies with experience in consulting, and sample data from 62 surveyed companies (80 persons) were analyzed using SPSS 25.0 and Smart PLS 2.0 based on statistics to perform frequency analysis, reliability, and feasibility analysis. The summary of the research results is as follows. First, it has been verified that consultant competency (ability, professionalism) and consulting service quality (reliability, assurance) had positive impacts. Second, service reliability and assurance, which are components of consulting service quality, significantly affected consulting performance (organizational creativity, innovation). Taken together, management consulting has a positive effect on creativity and innovation in an organization and ultimately contributes to improvement of the business performance of the company, depending on the competency of the consultant and quality of the services provided. Based on the results of this study, we intend to improve the quality of SME consulting by providing theoretical and practical implications as well as contribute to the growth of SMEs requiring innovation in the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution.

A Study on Technological Forecasting of Next-Generation Display Technology (차세대 디스플레이 기술의 예측에 관한 연구)

  • This paper presents study on technological forecasting of Next-Generation Display technology. Next-Generation Display technology is one of the emerging technologies lately. So databases on patent documents of this technology were analyzed first. And patent analysis was performed for finding out present technology trend. And the forecast for this technology was made by growth curves which were obtained from forecast models using patent documents. In previous study, Gompertz, Logistic, Bass were used for forecasting diffusion of demand in market. Gompertz, Logistic models which were often used for technological forecasting, too. So, two models were applied in this study. But Gompertz, Logistic models only consider internal effect of diffusion. And it is difficult to estimate maximum value of growth in two models. So, Bass model which considers both internal effect and external effect of diffusion was also applied. And maximum value of growth in Gompertz, Logistic models was estimated by Bass model.

An Analysis of the Relationship Between Quality of Service and the Audience Attitude Variables of the Korean traditional opera Performance (창극공연의 서비스품질과 관객태도 변인 간의 관계 분석)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of the quality of performance on audience satisfaction, and to verify the mediating effect of service value and traditional image in this process. The subjects of this study included 211 male and female adults who experienced the Korean opera performance in Seoul, Korea in October. Collected data was used as a model of path coefficients obtained through analysis of covariance structure and hypothesis test. As a result of verification, program quality, physical environment quality, and quality of the stage performance perceived by the audience showed a statistically significant positive correlation with performance experience attributes. The path coefficient between performance attribute and service value, performance experience attribute and traditional image were also positively and statistically significant. Further, the path coefficient between performance experience and audience satisfaction showed a positive relationship. The service value and traditional image, service value and audience satisfaction, and the path coefficient between traditional image and audience satisfaction were statistically and positively significant. Finally, all hypotheses were adopted and study results confirmed the effect of service quality and experience attributes on audience satisfaction for the popularization, modernization and marketing strategy of the Korean opera. In this process, it is meaningful to verify the role and function of service value and traditional image.

  • Although Korean domestic production of flat panel displays totalled more than 48 trillion KRW in 2007, most of the flat panel display wastes have been land-filled or incinerated, which greatly overshadows Korean national prestige as a world leading producer and developer of flat panel display devices. Countries such as Japan or EU possess quite limited land-fill capability and have sought ways to dispose of WEEEs from environment-friendly perspective rather than recovery of valuable materials from the wastes. Considering relatively short cycle of about 5 years for flat panel display devices, it is estimated that more than 5 million units will be accumulated as wastes by 2015. Urban mining is a most suitable countermeasures against China's monopoly of rare and rare earth metals, which are contained in flat panel display wastes. Therefore, materials recycling of waste LCD units has to be developed and commercialized soon enough for economic and environment-friendly recovery of valuable resources hidden in LCD wastes.

The Impact of External Resources Utilization Strategies and Absorptive Capability on the Korean Small and Medium-sized Enterprises' Performance: For Electronic Components and Telecommunications Equipment Manufacturers (외부 자원 활용 전략과 흡수능력이 중소기업 성과에 미치는 영향: 전자부품, 통신 장비 업체를 대상으로)

  • This study examined 142 electronic components, video, audio, and communications equipment manufacturers (KSIC 32) out of all the SMEs that responded to the Survey on Technology of the Small and Medium Enterprises in both 2005 and 2007 and empirically analyzed how the external resources utilization and the absorptive capability affected the management and the innovation performance in two years as well as how the absorptive capability moderated these relationships. According to the results of analysis, the external resources utilization, as measured by the technology collaboration and the governments R&D subsidies, did not have a significant impact on performance whereas R&D investment showed a positive (+) influence on the sales and R&D personnel ratio, negative (-). On the other hand, the moderating effect of absorptive capability varied by measurement method and independent variables. That is, when a technology collaboration takes place, the performance improved with the increase of R&D investment but R&D personnel ration had an opposite effect. The companies whose performance improved as the government R&D subsidies increase are those with low R&D investment or high R&D personnel ratio. These results demonstrate that the SME's external resources utilization cannot replace the internal and that the absorptive capability needs to be accumulated to maximize the effectiveness of external resources utilization. Also, the technology collaboration requires SME's aggressive investment in R&D and the government R&D subsidies turn out to be more helpful for the companies that already have the R&D personnel but have been unable to develop their own technology due to insufficient funds. This study has limitations in that it was conducted within the limited industry categories and samples, but has overcome those of the existing researches by identifying causal relationships through the use of longitudinal data.
