  • In this paper, an accurate characterization of a fabricated X-band transmit/receive module is described with the process of generating control data to correct amplitude and phase deviations in an active electronically scanned array antenna unit. In the characterization, quantization errors (from both a digitally controlled attenuator and a phase shifter) are considered using not theoretical values (due to discrete sets of amplitude and phase states) but measured values (of which implementation errors are a part). By using the presented procedure for the characterization, each initial control bit of both the attenuator and the phase shifter is closest to the required value for each array element position. In addition, each compensated control bit for the parasitic cross effect between amplitude and phase control is decided using the same procedure. Reduction of the peak sidelobe level of an array antenna is presented as an example to validate the proposed procedure.

  • In this paper, the assessment technique for track accuracy in the phased array radar is proposed. It is assumed that ${\alpha}-{\beta}$ tracking filter to track the target is established in the phased array radar. In order to assess the track accuracy strictly, we should use the real target position data acquired from the special instrument, ACMI(Air Combat Maneuvering Instrument) pod or DGPS(Differential Global Positioning System). However, this method leads to increase the experiment cost and test time. We derive the relationship between the residuals of tracking filter and the standard deviations of range and angle tracking errors which are assigned as track assessment index. The theory of sample variance is introduced in this assessment because track accuracy has to be calculated with many residual samples.

  • The first human case with trichinellosis was reported in 1964 in Tibet, China. However, up to the present, the etiological agent of trichinellosis has been unclear. The aim of this study was to identify a Tibet Trichinella isolate at a species level by PCR-based methods. Multiplex PCR revealed amplicon of the expected size (173 bp) for Trichinella spiralis in assays containing larval DNA from Tibet Trichinella isolate from a naturally infected pig. The Tibet Trichinella isolate was also identified by PCR amplification of the 5S ribosomal DNA intergenic spacer region (5S ISR) and mitochondrial largesubunit ribosomal RNA (mt-lsrDNA) gene sequences. The results showed that 2 DNA fragments (749 bp and 445 bp) of the Tibet Trichinella isolate were identical to that of the reference isolates of T. spiralis. The Tibet Trichinella isolate might be classifiable to T. spiralis. This is the first report on T. spiralis in southwestern China.

  • The trend for the development of radar is the active phased-array radar system. The trade-off between the processing speed and the number of the signal process board for the real time signal processing has to be optimized particularly in multichannel radar system. This paper introduces a transmission technique in order to transmit a large amount of received data from an Antenna Part to Signal Process Part. As a result, the number of the S/L board(COTS board) is reduced to one half, and the margin of the data transmission rate is about 2 times higher than the original method.

  • The velocity and acceleration of the ground moving target can cause the target position to be displaced and defocused in the SAR image. In this paper, the displacement compensation scheme is presented to correct the displaced position and defocused moving target image in the DPCA based SAR-GMTI system. The influence of the ground moving target due to the velocity and acceleration is analyzed in range and azimuth directions, and its compensation method is presented with the simulation results. The performance of the proposed method is compared with respect to the estimated velocity and defocused quantity in both range and azimuth directions.

  • GPS(Global Positioning System) signal structure uses spread spectrum and the received power is relatively lower than the receiver noise figure. Therefore, it is vulnerable to the RF interferences and it could restrict on the safety navigation. The objective of this paper is to research on the spectral domain GPS interference rejection algorithm using proposed K-median filtering threshold setting method. In the performance test, the proposed algorithm has a relatively higher ISR(interference to signal ratio) compared with the conventional temporal domain technique in case of time variant interference signals.

  • Plants have the ability to acquire an enhanced level of resistance to pathogen attack after being exposed to specific biotic stimuli. To obtain plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria inducing resistance against cucumber anthracnose by Colletotrichum orbiculare, more than 800 strains of rhizobacteria were screened in the greenhouse. Among these strains, Bacillus amyloliquefaciens solate EXTN-1 showed significant disease control efficacy on the plants. Induction of pathogenesis-related(PR-la) gene expression by EXTN-1 was assessed using tobacco plants transformed with PR-1a::$\beta$-glucuronidase(GUS) construct. GUS activities of tobacco treated with EXTN-1 and salicylic acid-treated transgenic tobacco were significantly higher than those of tobacco plants with other treatments. Gene expression analyses indicated that EXTN-1 induces the accumulation of defense-related genes of tobacco. The results showed that some defense genes are expressed by the treatment with EXTN-1 suggesting the similar resistance mechanism by salicylic acid.

  • In order to reduce the risk of roll over crash, one of the greatest risk events, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration(NHTSA) issued Notice of Proposed Rulemaking(NPRM) enhancing the safety standard on roof crush resistance, FMVSS No. 216 and changing some part of the test procedure. According to this NPRM, the boundary Gross Vehicle Weight Rating(GVWR) of the vehicles applied by this standard is extended from 2,722kg(6000 lb) to 4,536 kg(10000 lb) and the applied test force is increased from 1.5 times to 2.5 times of Unloaded Vehicle Weight (UVW). Also the current limit on the amount of roof crush, 127mm(5 inch), is replaced with a new requirement of maintaining enough headroom without touching the head of a seated 50% male dummy. In this paper, we carried out the rollover crash test on some domestic cars and investigated their safety due to the KMVSS No. 92 and the enhanced safety standard, FMVSS No. 216, respectively. The result shows that most of them can satisfy the new standards but further tests will be necessary, especially for heavier cars.

  • Over two hundred fungal strains from Korean soil were tested for the production of cholesterol-lowering agent, lovastatin. Each fungal strain was cultivated in the rapeseedmeal production medium (RPM). After growing for 7 days, the presence of lovastatin in the culture was examined by TLC analysis and HPLC. Nine different fungal strains were determined to produce detectable amounts of lovastatin, among which one fungal strain isolated from barnyard manure of Kanghwa island produced 25.58 mg/L of lovastatin in the production medium. The morphological observation combined with the determination of 18S-rRNA sequence suggested that the selected strain belongs to a member of Aspergillus sp..

  • ESS(Environmental Stress Screening) is an important production process to remove 'latent defects' introduced in the production of products. Recently, ESS is included in QAR(Quality Assurance Report) as an essential quality assurance requirement for products in the defense business. However, depending on the author of the QAR or the classification of the weapon system, it is often identified that the content and form are different or important elements are omitted. Therefore, this paper proposes a MIL-HDBK-344A based quantitative ESS requirement standard to secure the consistency and completeness of QAR. and to make easier to calculate PE(Precipitation Efficiency), which is an indicator for identifying the latent defects elimination effect.
