  • Main interest of the present paper is to investigate the criticality of characteristic vector fields on almost cosymplectic manifolds. Killing critical characteristic vector fields are absolute minima. This paper contains some examples of non-Killing critical characteristic vector fields.

  • This paper provides an innovative iteration technique for the large deflection problem of annular plate. After some manipulation, the problem is reduced to a couple of ODEs (ordinary differential equation). Among them, one is derived from the plane stress problem for plate, and other is derived from the bending of plate. Since the large deflection for plate is assumed in the problem, the relevant non-linear terms appear in the resulting ODEs. The pseudo-linearization procedure is suggested to solve the problem and the nonlinear ODEs can be solved in the way for the solution of linear ODE. To obtain the final solution, it is necessary to use the iteration. Several numerical examples are provided. In the study, the assumed value for non-dimensional loading is larger than those in the available references.

  • The Co-Cr alloys have clinical histories as dental and orthopaedic implants, and recently as cardiovascular stent applications because they exhibit a high elastic modulus and radiopacity. In order to improve their mechanical and corrosion resistance, electropolishing is employed as the final process. Electropolishing, an anodic dissolution process in the transpassive state, is sensitively affected by process conditions such as current density, machining time, and electrode gap. In this study, the effect of the electropolishing conditions on surface roughness and corrosion resistance is investigated for Co-Cr alloys (L605). The most smooth surface is obtained when electropolishing is performed at 15-20 V for 15-30 sec with a electrode gap of 3.5 mm. It is found out that electropolishing reduces corrosion rate about one-tenth as much.

  • Shear failure of reinforced concrete (RC) beams is a major concern for structural engineers. It has been shown through various studies that the shear strength and ductility of RC beams can be improved by adding steel fibers to the concrete. An accurate model predicting the shear strength of steel fiber reinforced concrete (SFRC) beams will help SFRC to become widely used. An artificial neural network (ANN) model consisting of an input layer, a hidden layer of six neurons and an output layer was developed to predict the shear strength of SFRC slender beams without stirrups, where the input parameters are concrete compressive strength, tensile reinforcement ratio, shear span-to-depth ratio, effective depth, volume fraction of fibers, aspect ratio of fibers and fiber bond factor, and the output is an estimate of shear strength. It is shown that the model is superior to fourteen equations proposed by various researchers in predicting the shear strength of SFRC beams considered in this study and it is verified through a parametric study that the model has a good generalization capability.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of the shear wall location in rigid frames on the dynamic behavior of a roof structure due to vertical and horizontal earthquake motions. The study deals with a gabled long span beam supported by two story rigid frames with shear walls. The earthquake response analysis is carried out to study the responses of the roof: vibration mode, natural period, bending moment and horizontal shear force of the bearings. The study results in the following conclusions: First, a large horizontal stiffness difference between the side frames is caused by the shear wall location, which results in a large vertical vibration of the roof and a large shear force at the side bearings. Second, in this case, the seismic design method for ordinary buildings is not useful in determining the distribution of the static equivalent loads for the seismic design of this kind of long span structures.

  • In this paper, we develop a reliable algorithm which is called the variation of parameters method for solving sixth-order boundary value problems. The proposed technique is quite efficient and is practically well suited for use in these problems. The suggested iterative scheme finds the solution without any perturbation, discritization, linearization or restrictive assumptions. Moreover, the method is free from the identification of Lagrange multipliers. The fact that the proposed technique solves nonlinear problems without using the Adomian's polynomials can be considered as a clear advantage of this technique over the decomposition method. Several examples are given to verify the reliability and efficiency of the proposed method. Comparisons are made to reconfirm the efficiency and accuracy of the suggested technique.

  • It appraises that use an indoor noise standard, a NC value which is a noise appraisal, a dB(A) value, a N value in foreign country because it doesn't yet ready an appraisal standard in domestic. Also, It appraises that the supply and drainage noise which could change water supply pressure, $4kg/cm^2,\;3kg/cm^2,\;2kg/cm^2,\;1.5kg/cm^2,\;1kg/cm^2$, bring about a noise and inquires how does noise level indicates according to each instruments. In case of a water supply pressure standard, $3kg/cm^2$, a C-605is $3{\sim}5dB(A)$ lower than another instruments in directly overhead stories. It appears that all of them is similar to level in directly under level except c-407(2)Analyzed the NC value, c-605is the lowest level, NC-50, of a water supply pressure, $4.0kg/cm^2$, c-407 is the highest level, NC-55.(3) In case of N value, which is one of water supply methods in Japan, it is the lowest level, N-55, of a water supply pressure, $4.0kg/cm^2$ same as NC value and C-407is the highest level, N-60.(4) In case of water supply that is likely to noise level, It appears 6dB(A) level gap each instruments, and C-605 is the lowest level, 63.9dB(A).

  • The paper deals with the design of a device for sound reproduction to be fixed to a supporting surface. The device is made up of two different types of acoustic actuators based on different technologies. This allows to reproduce sound in the range of frequencies from 20 Hz to 20 kHz. The generation of sound at high frequencies is demanded to a magnetostrictive actuator, while a more traditional magnetodynamics actuator is used to generate sound at low frequencies. The coupling between these two actuators leads to a device having small overall dimensions and high performance.

  • A stage-structured predator-prey system with time delay and Beddington-DeAngelis functional response is considered. By analyzing the corresponding characteristic equation, the local stability of a positive equilibrium is investigated. The existence of Hopf bifurcations is established. Formulae are derived to determine the direction of bifurcations and the stability of bifurcating periodic solutions by using the normal form theory and center manifold theorem. Numerical simulations are carried out to illustrate the theoretical results.

  • In this paper, guided circumferential wave propagating in an orthotropic viscoelastic cylindrical curved plate subjected to traction-free conditions is investigated in the frame of the Kelvin-Voight viscoelastic theory. The obtained three wave equations are decoupled into two groups, Lamb-like wave and SH wave. They are separately solved by the Legendre polynomial series approach. The availability of the method is confirmed through the comparison with the published data of the SH wave for a viscoelastic flat plate. The dispersion curves and attenuation curves for the carbon fiber and prepreg cylindrical plates are illustrated and the viscous effect on dispersion curves is shown. The influences of the ratio of radius to thickness are analyzed.
