The Time Synchronization Signals of the GNSS Receiver for KSLV-II and Their Performance Assessment (한국형발사체 위성항법수신기의 시각동기신호 생성 및 성능 평가)

  • The GNSS receiver for KSLV(Korea Space Launch Vehicle)-II provides real-time navigation data as well as precise time and time interval. The precise time signals provided by the GNSS receiver that can be used for the time synchronization between onboard systems, and between the onboard systems and ground stations have the forms of the 1PPS(One Pulse Per Second) and IRIG-B(Inter-Range Instrumentation Group Time Code B) which are synchronized with UTC(Coordinated Universal Time). A signal for timing faults also informs whether the time synchronization signals are available or not. This paper describes the time synchronization signals of the GNSS receiver for KSLV-II and their performance assessment.

  • FTSR(Flight Termination System Receiver) is a device that receives a ground command signal to abort a flight mission when abnormal conditions occur in the space launch vehicle. The secure tone command message shall consist of a series of 11 character tone pattern. Each character consists of the sum of two tones which taken from a set of 7 tones defined by IRIG(Inter-Range Instrumentation Group) in the audio frequency range. The MHA(Modified High alphabet) command adds a security feature to the secure tone command by using the predefined difference code. In order to check the function and performance of MHA FTSR, which is under development, for KSLV-II, the testbed should have functions of RF signal generation, receiver's output port monitoring, RS-422 communication and test data management. In this paper, we first briefly introduce MHA command and FTSR interface, and then show the LavVIEW based testbed include its H/W configuration, S/W implementation and test results.

  • In the launch mission, mission control systems and tracking systems need time synchronization for data monitoring and data analysis. There are several standards for time synchronization and an adequate standard is selected according to the requirement of time accuracy and cost among time synchronization standards. Oscillators are used to maintain time accuracy. There are some kinds of oscillators with diverse characteristics and an adequate oscillator can be adopted according to time accuracy. In this paper, we will specify characteristics of several oscillators and standards generally used for time synchronization. And we will also introduce TSDN(time synchronization and display network) for time synchronization in Naro Space Center.

  • In this paper, We have studied the structure of a Telemetry Transmitter capable of transmitting variable data rates. This paper proposed a structure combining variable pre-modulation filter with cutoff characteristic with variable input sample rate converter. Variable pre-modulation filter has the same characteristics as pre-modulation filter and is converted to a constant sampling rate without structural changes according to the variable input data rate. We propose a software program that actively controls variable pre-modulation filter and variable input sample rate converter to respond to real-time changing data.

A Design of Ultra Compact S-Band PCM/FM Telemetry Transmitter (초소형 S-대역 PCM/FM 텔레메트리 송신기 설계 및 제작)

  • In this paper, we propose an ultra compact S-Band PCM/FM telemetry transmitter. The equipment is compact, so it can be applied to a limited space and capable of stable data transmission was designed and manufactured even with specifications set differently for each operating environment and system. RF direct conversion structure is used for the miniaturization of equipment, an RF transmission board, Power distribution board, and a signal processing board were implemented on a single PCB, so that the function of the transmitter could be performed with a minimum device. According to the target specification, variable output of 1~10W and variable data rate of 390kbps~12.5Mbps is possible in S-Band(2,200~2,400MHz) without degradation of performance. To verify the performance of the equipment, the RF performance test and BER measurement test were performed after the equipment was manufactured. It was confirmed that the OBW, null-to-null bandwidth, 1st IMD, Spurious emission, Phase noise specification of the PCM/FM modulated signal which is presented by the IRIG standard were satisfied, and we can confirm the data received using the transmitter inspection equipment were transmitted normally without distortion.
