In this paper, the combination of ultraviolet and infrared sensors based design for flame signal detection algorithms was proposed with the application of light-wavelength from burning. And, the performance result of image detection was compared by an ultraviolet sensor, an infrared sensor, and the proposed dual-mode sensors(combination of ultraviolet and infrared sensors).
Purpose: In this paper, a distance estimation technique for indoor location estimation using IR-UWB is proposed and researched. We propose an algorithm that can increase the SNR lowered due to clutter or noise in an indoor environment. Method: In order to clutter suppression and detect weak signals, we analyze the existing studies of background remover, correlation, and singular vector decomposition techniques and propose an algorithm. Result: The proposed algorithm, the average error was 0.57m up to 11.5m, and the error were 0.49m from 6m to 11.5m. the average error rate was reduced by about 1m compared to the previous study. Conclusion: It can be used as a technique for detecting weak signals in clutter and noise environments for distance or location estimation, and can also be used as a human life detection technique to reduce damage to people in a disaster situation by using UWB radar which has highly transparent.

We propose a selective detection scheme based on pulse repetition considering the BER (Bit Error Rate) performance and complexity of coherent IR-UWB (Impulse Radio-Ultra Wide Band) systems. To take system complexity into account, the proposed scheme transmits the UWB signals by pulse repetition at the transmitter, like conventional PRC (Pulse Repetition Coding). However, to effectively improve BER performance of the system, the proposed scheme performs selective detection by estimating the SNR (Signal-to-Noise Ratio) of the received pulse-repeated signal at the UWB receiver. Hence, the proposed scheme effectively improves BER performance of the coherent IR-UWB systems without increasing system complexity, as compared to the conventional PRC algorithm.

In this paper, signal processing techniques for noncoherent impulse-radio-based UWB (IR-UWB) communication system are proposed to provide system implementation of low power consumption and low complexity. The proposed system adopts a simple modulation technique of OOK (on-oft-keying) and noncoherent signal detection based on signal amplitude. In particular, a technique of a novel high speed digital sampler using a stable, lower reference clock is developed to detect nano-second pulses and recover digital signals from the pulses. Also, a 32 bits Turyn code for data frame synchronization and a convolution code as FEC are applied, respectively. To verify the proposed signal processing techniques for low power, low complexity noncoherent IR-UWB system, the proposed signal processing technique is implemented in FPGA and then a short-range communication system for wireless transmission of high quality MP3 data is designed and tested.

The target such as aircraft operates flares to protect itself from the missile. In general, Infra-red(IR) flares that are hot bodies radiating energy considerably greater than it does, so cause the missile to guide the flare instead of the target. For a precise target tracking in spite of a presence of flares, therefore, the seeker should discriminate the target signal from various clutters including the flare and the background. In this paper, we simulated 2-color rosette scan seeker using IR and UV(UltraViolet) bands. In each wave band, we analyzed the radiant distributions of the target, the flare, and background. These results showed that a simultaneous process in two bands can detect precisely the target.

This paper presents a novel apnea detection and respiration rate estimation method using impulse-radio ultra-wideband (IR-UWB) radar. The proposed method utilizes amplitude, time of arrival, and power in the selected band. The experimental results show that respiration rate can be estimated accurately using proposed method. And, it is shown that the selectivity between apnea and respiration can be improved more than 50 dB using the proposed method.

This paper proposes a CMOS readout circuit for uncooled micro-bolometer arrays adopting a four-point step calibration technique. The proposed readout circuit employing an 11b analog-to-digital converter (ADC), a 7b digital-to-analog converter (DAC), and an automatic gain control circuit (AGC) extracts minute infrared (IR) signals from the large output signals of uncooled micro-bolometer arrays including DC bias currents, inter-pixel process variations, and self-heating effects. Die area and Power consumption of the ADC are minimized with merged-capacitor switching (MCS) technique adopted. The current mirror with high linearity is proposed at the output stage of the DAC to calibrate inter-pixel process variations and self-heating effects. The prototype is fabricated on a double-poly double-metal 1.2 um CMOS process and the measured power consumption is 110 ㎽ from a 4.5 V supply. The measured differential nonlinearity (DNL) and integrat nonlinearity (INL) of the 11b ADC show $\pm$0.9 LSB and $\pm$1.8 LSB, while the DNL and INL of the 7b DAC show $\pm$0.1 LSB and $\pm$0.1 LSB.

A two-color infrared (IR) seeker employs two detection-bands for efficient target tracking under countermeasures and background noises. This paper describes a study on the detection-band selections for the two-color seeker. To select the detection-bands, we analysis infrared radiation characteristics of a target, a flare, and background noises and then other characteristics closely related with the received power, such as the atmospheric transmission, acquisition range, background noise effect, and signal-to-noises. The analysis shows that the pertinent bands of two-color IR seeker are 3 um~5 um for target detection and 1.5 um~l.7 um for counter-countermeasures. The results of our study will play a significant role in the further study of two-color seekers.

A new readout circuit(ROIC) for linear HgCdTe 64${\times}$2 two-color Infrared (IR) detector is described. This circuit is based on the buffered direct injection(BDI) technology with high injection efficiency. By using saturation current isolation circuit, the proposed ROIC removed the problems that LWIR(Long Wavelength InfraRed) signal distort when MWIR(Middle Wavelength InfraRed) signal saturates so that new ROIC has larger measurable temperature range about 120k than that of previous circuit and it is also tolerant for dead pixel in MWIR detector. The designed circuit was fabricated using 0.6um 2-poly 3-metal CMOS process. We measured that the designed circuit outputs MWIR signal and LWIR signal simultaneously and saturation current isolationcircuit also operates well. Next, measured noise was about 53uV at room temperature and it can be assumed that designed circuit can satisfy nearly 95% BLIP condition at 77K.

In the impulse radio ultra-wideband communication systems, the residual timing offset exists when the acquisition and tracking of the timing synchronization is well done. And the offset affects the performance of the system dramatically. In order to compensate the offset, we present the digital phase-locked loop that uses the reference signal in the correlation detection receiver. First, we show the degradation of BER performance that is caused by the offset, and then compensation process of the timing tracker and performance improvement. In this paper, the timing detector in the tracker operates at the sampling period of frame level uses the correlation between received and reference signal. Also, we present the performance comparison by using the computer simulation results for different Gaussian monocycle pulses.
