Importance and Performance on the Job Readiness Skills and Self-determination of Mothers of Students with Intellectual Disabilities (지적장애학생의 어머니가 인식한 직업준비 기술과 자기결정에 대한 중요도와 실행도)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate of mothers' perception on job readiness skills and self-determination of students with intellectual disabilities, at the same time, to explore the needs of mothers for supporting these two key concepts. Method: To these ends, 110 mothers of students with intellectual disabilities were asked to complete questionnaires. And then the collected data were analyzed by using a paired t-test, Borich's need, and IPA matrix analysis method. Results: First, there were significant difference between the level of importance and performance of job readiness skills of students with intellectual disabilities. As well, the supports for 'job skills' domain were needed strongly. Second, there were significant difference between the level of importance and performance of self-determination. As well, the supports for 'self-awareness and self-knowledge' domain were needed most strongly. Conclusion: Based on these results, the strategies to support and enhance job readiness level and self-determination of students with intellectual disabilities were suggested.
