Control of Surface Chemistry and Electrochemical Performance of Carbon-coated Silicon Anode Using Silane-based Self-Assembly for Rechargeable Lithium Batteries

  • Silane-based self-assembly was employed for the surface modification of carbon-coated Si electrodes and their surface chemistry and electrochemical performance in battery electrolyte depending on the molecular structure of silanes was studied. IR spectroscopic analyses revealed that siloxane formed from silane-based self-assembly possessed Si-O-Si network on the electrode surface and high surface coverage siloxane induced the formation of a stable solid-electrolyte interphase (SEI) layer that was mainly composed of organic compounds with alkyl and carboxylate metal salt functionalities, and PF-containing inorganic species. Scanning electron microscopy imaging showed that particle cracking were effectively reduced on the carbon-coated Si when having high coverage siloxane and thickened SEI layer, delivering > 1480 mAh/g over 200 cycles with enhanced capacity retention 74% of the maximum discharge capacity, in contrast to a rapid capacity fade with low coverage siloxane.

  • Behavior of aluminum alloy embedding a particle was investigated at room temperature under ECAP. Finite element analysis by using ABAQUS shows that ECAP is a useful tool for eliminating residual porosity in the specimen, and much more effective under friction condition. The simulation, however, shows considerably low density distributions for matrix near a particle at which rich defects may occur during severe deformation. Finite element results of effective strains and deformed shapes for matrix with a particle were compared with theoretical calculations under simple shear stress. Also, based on the distribution of the maximum principal stress in the specimen, Weibull fracture probability was obtained for particle sizes and particle-coating layer materials. The probability was useful to predict the trend of more susceptible failure of a brittle coating layer than a particle without an interphase in metal matrix composites.

콘택트렌즈용 하이드로젤로의 단백질 흡착 반응속도 이해 (Understanding of Protein Adsorption Kinetics to Contact Lens Hydrogels)

  • 콘택트렌즈용 하이드로젤로의 단백질 흡착량을 시간에 따라 분석하여 계면으로 확산되는 단백질 흡착 반응속도를 연구하였다. HEMA(hydroxyethylmethacrylate)계열 하이드로젤과 silicone계열 하이드로젤을 단백질(알부민 또는 IgG)용액에 침지시킨 후 단백질 흡착량을 시간에 따라 측정하였다. 모든 하이드로젤로의 단백질 흡착량은 단시간(10분)에 급격히 증가한 후 90분 동안 변화 없이 일정하였다. 빠른 단백질 분자의 확산에도 불구하고 계면에너지 감소는 한 시간 이상 진행되는데 이는 계면 탈수 현상이 한 시간 이상 진행되기 때문으로 이해된다. 계면에너지와 단백질 흡착량의 상관관계를 이해하여 콘택트렌즈 재질로의 단백질 흡착 반응 속도의 메커니즘을 분석하였다.

An Interleaved Converter for 12-pulse Rectifier Harmonic Suppression

  • In order to further improve the harmonic suppression capability of conventional 12-pulse rectifiers, this paper proposes a low harmonic 12-pulse rectifier using an Active Inter-Phase Reactor (AIPR). Through a detailed analysis of the relationship between the input current, output current and circulating current of the DC side, the mechanism where the AC grid side current harmonics can be suppressed by the DC side circulating current is revealed. On this basis, an interleaved APFC controlled by a DSP is designed and used as an AIPR along with an interphase reactor. A simulation is carried out with MATLAB/Simulink and an experiment is performed on a 9-kVA prototype. The obtained results verify the feasibility and validity of the proposed approach. Compared with a traditional 12-pulse rectifier, the THD can be reduced to 1/5 of the original value, and the capacity of the AIPR is only 2% of the load power. Thus, it is suitable for high-power applications.

리튬전지용 Ni0.2V2O5 Aerogel 전극의 특성 (Electrochemical Studies of Li Intercalation in Ni0.2V2O5 Aerogel)

  • 졸겔법에 의하여 리튬전지용 $Ni_{0.2}V_2O_5$ aerogel (ARG) 양극 소재를 개발하여 전기화학적 특성을 조사하였다. ARG는 무정형의 층상화합물로 $400^{\circ}C$ 이상에서 열처리할 경우 orthorhombic 구조로 전환되었으며, 표면구조는 섬유 모양의 단위체가 서로 얽혀 일정한 방향으로 성장하여 비등방성 sheet를 형성하고 있다. 리튬 이온이 층간 삽입될 수 있는 다수의 특정한 에너지 준위의 자리가 ARG내에 존재하며, 전지의 평균전위는 3.1 V (vs. $Li/Li^+$) 이었다. ARG 리튬이차전지의 계면저항은 ARG층 내 리튬 몰분율에 상관없이 일정한 반면, 전하이동저항은 개로전압에서 최대이며 ARG내 리튬 이온의 농도가 증가할수록 증가하였다.

Centrobin/Nip2 Expression In Vivo Suggests Its Involvement in Cell Proliferation

  • Centrobin/Nip2 was initially identified as a centrosome protein that is critical for centrosome duplication and spindle assembly. In the present study, we determined the expression and subcellular localization of centrobin in selected mouse tissues. Immunoblot analysis revealed that the centrobin-specific band of 100 kDa was detected in all tissues tested but most abundantly in the thymus, spleen and testis. In the testis, centrobin was localized at the centrosomes of spermatocytes and early round spermatids, but no specific signal was detected in late round spermatids and elongated spermatids. Our results also revealed that the centrosome duplication occurs at interphase of the second meiotic division of the mouse male germ cells. The centrobin protein was more abundant in the mitotically active ovarian follicular cells and thymic cortex cells than in non-proliferating corpus luteal cells and thymic medullary cells. The expression pattern of centrobin suggests that the biological functions of centrobin are related to cell proliferation. Consistent with the proposal, we observed reduction of the centrobin levels when NIH3T3 became quiescent in the serum-starved culture conditions. However, a residual amount of centrobin was also detected at the centrosomes of the resting cells, suggesting its role for maintaining integrity of the centrosome, especially of the daughter centriole in the cells.

리튬이온전지용 탄소기반 음극재의 리튬저장능력 향상을 위한 나노구조체 설계에 관한 연구

  • 이 연구에서는 리튬이온전지용 음극 활물질의 리튬이온 저장 용량을 최적화시키기 위한 새로운 방법이 제안되었다. 그 방법은 솔루션 플라즈마 프로세스를 사용하여 원자 단위의 리튬을 탄소 기반 물질의 내부에 도핑 시키고, 열처리를 통해 그 내부를 재설계하는 것이다. 리튬이온전지용 음극 활물질로 리튬금속 자체를 사용하려는 시도는 있었으나, 이는 충전 및 방전 사이클이 반복됨에 따라 리튬이 수지상으로 석출되어 내부를 단락시키거나, 리튬금속 자체의 폭발성에 의한 취급상의 제약이 있었다. 한편, 원자 단위로 탄소 내부에 도핑 된 리튬은 열처리 과정 동안 탄소 내부에서 확산함으로써 더 많은 리튬이 저장될 수 있는 공간을 만들었고, 사이클이 반복됨에 따라 서서히 충전 및 방전 반응에 참여함으로써 전지의 성능을 개선시켰다. 리튬이 도핑 된 탄소의 전기화학적 테스트 결과를 Fig. 1에 나타내었다. 실험 결과에서 보여진 초기 고용량 및 장기 사이클 특성은 탄소 내부에 도핑 된 리튬이 전지 성능의 향상에 중요한 역할을 한다는 것을 시사한다. 또한, 사이클이 반복됨에 따라 점차 증가하는 용량은 첫 사이클에서 형성된 solid electrolyte interphase의 비가역 용량을 보상할 수 있을 것으로 생각된다. 이상의 결과를 통해, 탄소 내부에 원자단위의 리튬을 도핑시키는 새로운 접근은 리튬이온전지의 성능 개선을 위한 효과적인 방법이 될 수 있을 것으로 보이며, 향후 리튬 이외의 다른 원소들, 즉 소듐과 같은 물질에 대하여 도핑을 시도한다면 새로운 분야에서 이와 같은 접근법이 유용하게 적용될 수 있을 것으로 사료된다.

  • Polymer alloys of poly(ethylene terephthalate)(PET) and nylon6(PA6) which were not miscible each other by themselves were successfully prepared through melt compounding using a twin-screw extruder by utilizing epoxy as reactive compatibilizer. At the epoxy(DGEBA) amount of 0.5~2wt%, the domain size(average diameter) of the discontinuous phase could be reduced up to 0.2${\mu}m$ from 1-5${\mu}m$ that of the simple blend without epoxy. The reaction was presumed to happen mostly at interphase from the result of maximum increase of melt viscosity at the middle range of PET/PA6 blend ratio. It is expected that alloy fibers of PET/epoxy/PA6 with enough mechanical strength for use can be prepared.

  • Electrochemical adsorption always was accompanied with solvent displacement and relative size factor(x) of adsorbate and solvent and hydrogen coverage(${\theta}$) on the lead anodic film electrode formed in phosphoric acid in NaCl solution and the sea water at $15{\sim}35^{\circ}C$ were studied by means of constant current-potential method and potentiodynamic cathodic polarization method. In this experiment, various constants and thermodynamic quantities calculated from the hydrogen coverage were also described to explain the reactivities of di-iso-butylnitrosoamine(DBNA) and proton ($H^+$) according to the changes of interactions between solute and solvent in the bulk phase and interphase. It was investigated that the average values of relative size factor and the coverage of hydrogen atoms studied with the electrode of lead anodic film formed in phosphoric acid solution in 60mM DBNA+0.5M NaCl and in 60mM DBNA+$6\%0$ sea water were about 11.0 and 0.2 respectively. Hydrogen evolution was electrochemical mechanism because of substitutional adsorption of aromatic substance with their delocalization of electrons, but in the case of non-charge transfer adsorption of aliphatic substance(DBNA) interacting relatively little with the electrode, it was combination mechanism.

  • Distribution of the antigens during the cell cycle of amoebae was followed by immunof-luorescence microscopy using a monoclonal antibody against the nucleus as a probe. While the cells were in the interphase, the antigen was localized on the nucleus membrane. But it was dispersed all over the cytoplasm during mitosis and cytokinesis. The molecular weights of the immunoreacted antigens were 210 KD and 190 KD as determined by SDS PAGE and western blotting of the purified nuclei. The antigens were not soluble in non-ionic detergent, but were released from the nucleus by incubation with 0.05 M sodium carbonate, pH 10.6 or with 8 M urea at serial chemical extraction. Thus the antigens appeared to be peripheral proteins of the nurBeus envelope. The isoelectic point of both antigens was 7.64 as determined by 2 D PAGE and transfer blotting. Considering the peiipherd association with the nucleus membrane and the dispersed distribution during mitosis, the antigens could be lamin like proteins. Hourever, it appears also possible that they are the component molecules of the unusually structured aurous lamina of amoeba nucleus since they have the large molecular weight and the basic pl.
