디젤기관의 NOx 저감방법 및 NOx 측정에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Method of NOx Reduction and NOx Measurement for the Diesel Engines)

  • According to the NOx level requirement of annex Vl to IMO(International Maritime Organization) MARPOL 73/78, this regulation shall apply to each diesel engine with a power output of more than 130 ㎾ which is installed on a ship constructed and undergoes a major conversion on or after 1 January 2000. It is inevitable to adopt IMO standard for marine engines. Therefore, most of diesel engines which are being currently built should be tested and surveyed in accordance with the NOx technical code. In this study, various technics of NOx reduction methods were investigated for the diesel engines and the methods of NOx measuring were introduced by the new and simplified field detecting equipment. These results can be utilized for the basic design and developement of diesel engine for NOx reduction.

  • According to the NOx regulations of annex Vi to IMO MARPOL 73/78, all diesel engines with a power output of more than 130 kW should be delivered so as to comply with the IMO speed dependent NOx limit. It is inevitable to adopt this regulations for marine engines Therefore, most of diesel engines which are being currently built should be designed and tested in accordance with the NOx technical code In this study, NOx concentrations of 4 type engines were measured with portable NOx measuring system recommended by ISO-8178. As the results NOx concentrations of each engine by variation of engine speed and engine load were visualized Also these results can be utilized for the basic design and development of diesel engine for NOx reduction.

  • Environmental protection on the ocean has been interested and nowadays the International Maritime Organization(IMO) has advanced on the prevention of air pollution from ships. This study presents the performance and the emission characteristics of 4 stroke marine diesel engines for generation application in D2 cycle(IMO mode). The effects of important operating parameters, such as intake air pressure. intake air temperature and maximum combustion pressure on NOx emissions were also described. Emissions measurement and calculation are processed according to IMO Technical Code. The results show that the maximum combustion pressure by fuel injection timing control and intake air temperature has strong influence on NOx emission production. But NOx emission is not affected by intake air pressure and exhaust gas back pressure.

소형 어선용 디젤기관에서의 연료유 성상에 따른 배기배출물 특성에 관한 연구 (An experimental study on characteristics of exhaust emissions with fuel properties changes in a diesel engine for small-sized fishing vessel)

  • In order to test the applicability of bunker-A in a diesel engine for small-fishing boat, the investigation of the engine performance and the exhaust emission was performed under various conditions of fuel property, intake air pressure and fuel temperature. It was also performed based on IMO NOx Technical code. At high load, the energy consumption rate of bunker-A was lower than that of diesel oil, and the characteristics of exhaust emission of bunker-A were similar to those, and NOx emission rates of both fuels satisfied the IMO NOx emission regulation limits. The energy consumption rate and characteristics of exhaust emission were improved as the intake air pressure was increased, but these were not improved remarkably as the temperature of bunker-A was heated. However, at low load the energy consumption rate, CO emission rate and HC emission rate of bunker-A were higher than those of diesel oil, but NOx emission rates of the fuels were about the same. In addition, at low load the energy consumption rate and CO emission rate of bunker-A were increased as the intake air pressure and the temperature were higher than normal conditions. Accordingly, it is thought that the use of bunker-A in a kind of test engine is possible at high load. On the other hand, it is thought that more research is needed to improve the combustion efficiency under low temperature and low load condition.

Also the effects of important operating parameters in terms of intake air pressure and temperature, and maximum combustion pressure are described on the specific emissions. Emissions measurement and calculation are processed according to IMO technical code. The results show that NOx emission level in E3 cycle is higher than E2 cycle due to lower engine speed and lower maximum combustion pressure by retarding fuel injection timing. Intake air temperature has strong influence on NOx emission production. And CO, HC emissions are not affected by maximum combustion pressure and intake air pressure and temperature.

선박용 저속디젤엔진 적용을 위한 PM-NOx 동시저감 배출저감설비 해상실증 연구 (Study on the On-Board Test of After-Treatment Systems to Reduce PM-NOx in Low-Speed Marine Diesel Engine)

  • 본 연구에서는 소형선박용 중·고속 디젤엔진에 적용하여 연구 중인 SCR+DPF 기술을 저속엔진이 설치된 선박에 탑재하여 해상 실증 시험을 수행하였다. 대상 선박(총 톤수 2,881 톤, 정격출력 1,470kW@240rpm ×1)은 국내 연해를 운항하는 일반화물선으로 배출저감설비의 선박 탑재를 위해 도면 개발, 승인 및 선박 임시검사를 수행하였다. 저감성능 확인을 위해서 가스상물질 측정장비는 NOx technical code 및 ISO-8178의 분석방법을 준용하는 장비를 사용하였으며, 입자상물질 측정장비는 국제해사기구(IMO)에서 논의하고 있는 블랙카본 측정 방법 중 하나인 스모크미터를 사용하였다. 시험은 황 함유량 따라 MGO(0.043%), LSFO(0.42%) 2종의 연료를 사용하였으며 실제 운항하는 엔진회전수(130, 160 및 180 rpm)를 고려하여 시험 조건을 설정하였다. 시험 조건에 따라 배출저감설비의 전·후단에서 가스상 및 입자상(매연) 물질을 측정하여 배출저감설비의 저감효율을 확인하였으며 모든 시험 조건에서 NOx의 경우 90% 이상, 입자상물질(매연)의 경우 95% 이상의 저감효율을 확인하였고 엔진 성능의 영향을 줄 수 있는 배기가스 압력은 허용배압 기준인 50mbar 이하를 만족하였다. 본 연구를 통해 해상실증 연구의 중요성과 중소형 저속엔진 선박의 질소산화물 및 입자상물질의 동시 저감을 위한 대응 기술로 SCR+DPF 설비 적용 가능성을 확인할 수 있었다.

선박용 SCR 시스템에 대한 실험적 연구 (Experimental study on marine SCR system)

  • This study conducted the experiment for the development of the low pressure type SCR system. The experimental equipment of SCR system was installed, which was widely used as the nitrogen oxides abatement system, and the demonstration experiment was conducted to see that it met the Tier III regulation according to the IMO NOx Technical Code. The SCR system demonstration experiment was divided into three stages: SCR system component operation test, engine parameter test by engine load, and NOx abatement performance and ammonia slip verification test. The final performance of the SCR system was verified through analysis of NOx abatement performance and ammonia slip test results for each load variation.
