핫스팟 응력 해석을 위한 일반 지침 (General Guide for Hot Spot Stress Analysis)

  • 본 일반 지침은 용접 이음부나 구조물의 피로강도 평가에 사용되는 기준응력 계산에 관한 내용으로 핫스팟 응력(Hot Spot Stress, 이하 HSS)이라고 칭하는 응력 평가용 해석 기술 및 관련 내용을 다룬다. 국제용접협회 (IIW: International Institute of Welding)발간 지침서의 주요내용에 대한 간략한 소개와 함께 대한용접학회 용접강도연구위원회의 Round-Robin 시험결과를 바탕으로 유한요소 응력해석 기반 용접 이음부의 HSS 평가 방법에 관한 내용을 정리하였다.

  • The education examination and qualification systems around the world are now changing rapidly and unifying as one system. The Korean national system should be harmonious with this international tendency, in order to overcome the high degree of international economic competition. In this article, the current state of the international and national systems are critically compared and discussed with the intention of proposing improvements to the Korean national system. The Korean Welding Society has revamped its system so that its certificates might be recognized by the welding institutions in foreign countries such as the European Welding Federation (EWF) and still be recognized by the Korean Government. Their desire to join the system of International Institute of Welding (IIW).

1mm 가상 노치 반경을 이용한 용접부 피로강도 평가에 관한 연구 (Application of 1mm fictitious notch radius approach to the fatigue strength assessment of welded joint)

  • Fictitious notch radius approach is based on the Neuter's microstructural support hypothesis which assumes that fatigue crack is governed by highly stressed volume of the material right on the weld toe area rather than the surface stress at a pin point of weld toe area. Variety of successes have been achieved in applying this methodology to the fatigue of welded joint, hence, it became one of recommended design procedure in IIW's recommendation as well as many ship classification societies. 1mm fictitious notch radius approach was applied to the various fatigue problems of welded joints in this study covering the effect of weld size, notch stress calculation for 3D geometry and low cycle fatigue problem. It was found that fictitious notch radius approach fumed out to be very effective and accurate in dealing with fatigue strength of welded joint.

  • Large-scale model tests of welded tubular K-joints were carried out to observe the fatigue behavior of API 2W Gr.50 steel produced by POSCO. The fatigue crack behaviors for various loading conditions were measured and investigated around the critical joint sections. The experimental results have been verified with numerical approaches and also compared with the IIW, DnV RP-C203 and API RP 2A-WSD design curves. The hot spot strss method was applied in the study. The SCF factor for tubular K-joint was also obtained.

Study on fatigue experiment for transverse butt welds under 2G and 3G weld positions

  • Although the transverse butt weld method with ceramic backing strip has been widely used in various industrial fields for its fabricational convenience, it is rarely used in offshore industries since the fatigue strength of the weld joint has not been proved sufficiently. This study conducted fatigue tests for series of butt weld specimens with horizontal (2G) and vertical (3G) welding positions in order to verify the fatigue strength compared to S-N curve by DNV (Det Norske Veritas), IIW (International Institute of Welding) and Eurocode 3. The difference of the 2G specimens and the 3G specimens are investigated in terms of angular distortion and the effect on the fatigue strength are analyzed.

  • Fatigue is a principal failure mode for steel structures, and it is still less understood than any other modes of failure. Fatigue life estimation of metal bridges is a major issue for making cost effective decisions on the rehabilitation or replacement of existing infrastructure. The fatigue design procedures given by the standard codes are either empirical or based on nominal stress approach. Since the fatigue life estimation through field measurements is difficult and costly, more researches are needed to develop promising techniques in the fatigue analysis of bridges through Finite Element Analysis (FEA). This paper aims to develop a methodology for the Fatigue life estimation of railway steel bridge using FEA. The guidelines of IIW-1823-07 were used in the development of the methodology. The Finite Element (FE) package ANSYS and the programming software MATLAB were used to implement this methodology on an Indian Railway Standard (IRS) welded plate girder bridge. The results obtained were compared with results from published literature and found satisfactory.

  • 강교의 정확한 피로균열의 발생원인 또는 교량의 피로안전성을 검토하기 위해서는 적합한 응력이력 측정이 요구된다. 그러나 실제 현장에서의 응력이력 측정은 현장 여건과 경제성, 작업성 등의 이유로 1개소의 스트레인게이지를 설치하여 계측을 실시한다. 이는 특정 구조물의 실제 치수와 게이지 길이 용접부 응력집중 등의 영향을 고려하지 못하고, 구조 모델링을 통한 응력해석에도 많은 어려움이 있다. 그러므로 본 연구에서는 용접단부에 다수의 게이지 설치, 최소 길이 게이지 사용, 설치 위치 등의 개선된 방법을 적용하여 용접단부와 스트레인게이지 설치 거리에 따른 변형률 진폭에 대한 상관식을 도출하고 국제용접협회 (IIW)의 제안식과 비교하였다. 또한 적합한 피로등급 상세범주 선정을 통해 공용중인 교량의 피로손상도 평가 및 잔존수명을 예측하고 분석하였다. 그 결과 피로균열 발생빈도가 높은 부재파악, 용접 단부와 게이지 설치 거리에 따른 변형률의 정량적 파악으로 정확한 피로손상도 평가 및 잔존수명 예측이 가능하므로 향후 교량의 응력이력 계측 시 개선된 방법을 적용해야 할 것이다.
