  • TRAINER for Kids ($T4K^{TM}$, Myofunctional. Research Co, Australia) is a prefabricated myofunctional orthodontic appliance recommended to ClassII division1 malocclusion patients who have bad oral habits such as mouth breathing, tongue thrusting, inappropriate tongue position, thumb sucking and so on. Trainer has a soft texture and a small volume so that those advantages lead to an increase in the agreement rate of young patients of its use. This presentation is to analyze clinical efficacy of Trainer. The analysis is based on a result of regular follow-up on Class II division1 malocclusion patients who has been completely treated by Trainer in the Sanbon Dental Hospital of Wonkwang university. This case report is to present the satisfactory results gained by using Trainer on Class II patients. First, Trainer was applied in Class II malocclusion patients of mixed dentition with expected space insufficient to gain facial improvement. Second, excessive overjet, overbite were improved. Third, main effects are regarded to have been achieved by development of lingual slant of upper jaw, labial slant of lower jaw, and lower part of jaw bone.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the skeletal and dentoalveolar effects and optimal timing for treatment of class II malocclusion with functional appliances in children and adolescents. A group of 30 patients with class II malocclusion were divided into 3 groups according to their use of functional appliance: Twin block, Activator, Fränkel appliance. The group was also divided into 2 groups according to the cervical vertebrae maturation method. Lateral cephalometric radiographs were analyzed pretreatment (T0) and posttreatment (T1). Among the functional appliances, treatment with Twin block and Activator showed significant increase in the length of the mandible (Co-Gn) and the lower anterior facial height (ANS to Me), whereas the overjet and overbite were significantly reduced. Treatment with Fränkel appliance showed significant improvement in the relationship of maxilla and mandible. In addition, if the functional appliance was used during the period of pubertal growth peak, there was a significant increase in mandibular length, improvement in the relationship of maxilla and mandible, labial inclination of lower incisors and decrease in overjet compared to the treatment before pubertal growth peak. Therefore, this study indicates that using functional appliances for patients with class II malocclusion is effective and the optimal timing for using functional appliances is during pubertal growth peak.

  • In this study, to find the influencing factors of the cooperation affects the result of the orthodontic treatment, the questionnaires were collected from patients who were being treated with fixed orthodontic appliances at A dental clinic in Seoul area. The results of this study are below.1. The average of the total score of the cooperation was 8.04 with the range of between 2 and 14. 2. The gender and age of the patient did not show the meaningful significance in aspect of the cooperation. 3. The relation between the period of treatment time and the cooperation, the analysis showed that the longer the period of treatment, the lesser the cooperation (P < 0.05). 4. The average of the cooperation by decision maker, the patient himself was 9.17, mother was 7.69 and father was 7.77. This result showed that the treatment decision made by the patient himself, the cooperation was highest (P < 0.05). 5. In the relationship between the malocclusion classification and the cooperation, the Angle Class I was 8.77, Class II was 7.28, and Class III was 6.89. This result showed that the average cooperation of Angle Class I patients was higher than Angle Class III patients (P < 0.05). 6. All the influencing factors to the orthodontic treatment were analyzed by logistic regression analysis (RGA). The result showed that there is meaningful significance in the treatment period and malocclusion classification. The most influencing factor was treatment period and the longer the period, the lesser cooperation (P < 0.05).

  • The flora in the region of Daeheuksando ($N34^{\circ}37^{\prime}{\sim}34^{\circ}42^{\prime}$, $E125^{\circ}23^{\prime}{\sim}125^{\circ}38^{\prime}$) was surveyed from June 2010 to October 2011. The vascular plants from 22 field surveys were revealed to total of 496 taxa: 113 families, 316 genera, 446 species, four subspecies, 43 varieties and three forms. 124 taxa were the first records from this region. This field study discovered significant plants in various categories. Korean endemic plants numbered 7 taxa, and 6 taxa designated by Korean Forest Service as rare plants were investigated in this region. The taxa in the category II of rare and endangered plants and higher than the third degree among the floristic regional indicator plants designated by Korean Ministry of Environment were one taxon and 47 taxa, respectively. Especially, it was proved that Spiraea chartacea, Hosta yingeri, Hemerocallis hongdoensis and Saussurea polylepis were endemic to Heuksan-myeon including Daeheuksando in Korean peninsular. In addition, the naturalized plants of 46 taxa were recorded.

  • The best source of information on the conservation status of species at a global scale is the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. Until now, 236 vascular plants from Korean peninsula have been evaluated using the IUCN red list categories and criteria. It indicated that five taxa were considered as critically endangered, 20 as endangered and nine as vulnerable species as a threatened status. On the other hand, the rest (189 taxa) were assessed as a least concern, which did not qualify for threatened species categories. Korea Ministry of Environment published a revised version of 57 species list by re-classifying endangered species with idiosyncratic qualitative criteria for two levels (I and II) followed by status reviews in 2011. However, two thirds species proposed by Ministry of Environment do not qualify as threatened. The major difficulties found in applying IUCN Red List criteria at the global scale was a lack of knowledge on the status of species at broader geographic scales and the perceived difficulty the causes. The lack of consistency between two lists constrains the prioritization of species-based conservation work at the national level. Due to a lack of centralized monitoring data for most species, this status is largely qualitatively and so it carries a high level of uncertainty. This is reflected in the high number of species with an unknown population trend. The current list of endangered species of flora and fauna by the Ministry of Environment should be recognized as the national list (local and population extinction), which is different from the IUCN Red list due to the different geographical contexts. Also, it is necessary to improve the quality of evaluation and conservation management system rather than presenting massive number of endangered species list.

  • This study was to investigate the horizontal & vertical bone change pattern when using cervical headgear in Class II malocclusion of growing children and compared the skeletal features between the group with increased lower facial height and the group without increase in lower facial height. The results are as follows ; 1. Forward growth of maxilla was inhibited, downward tipping of anterior palatal plane could be seen and distal movement of maxillary first molar was observed. 2. There was relative forward movement of Mandible against the Maxillary cranial base, and relative forward movement of mandibular 1st molar against the Maxilla and vertical increase due to alveolar growth of Mandible. 3. There was significant increase in anterior and posterior facial heights but the ratio of facial height showed no significant difference. 4. The group with increased lower facial height has shorter ramus length, than the smaller palatal plane angle, and more distal movement of Maxillary 1st molar than the group without increase Ha-young Hyun

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the post-retention stability of the lower incisor axis in Class II division 2 malocclusions. The dental casts and lateral cephalograms from before (T1) and after (T2) orthodontic treatment and long-term post-retention (T3) in 62 Class II division 2 malocclusion cases were included in this study. After several linear and angular measurements at each time were taken, the significance in the amount of change of the lower incisor axis for each gender and extraction versus non-extraction was evaluated. The results showed that the lower incisors that inclined labially during treatment were unstable and relapsed to the original lingual position in Class II division 2 malocclusions (p<0.001). There was no significant difference between extraction and non-extraction groups for the amount of lingual relapse of the lower incisors (p>0.05). There was no significant difference between male and female groups for the axial change of the lower incisors (p>0.05). As a result of multiple regression analysis, the cephalometric measurement best predicting the lower incisor position to the A-Pog line post-retention was pre-treatment L1-Apog(mm) and pre-treatment SNGoMe$(^{\circ})$. Because of the instability of labially inclined lower incisors after orthodontic treatment, the treatment goal should be the pre-treatment incisor axial position.
