  • In this paper, we propose a channel estimation method by impulse signal train in OFDM. In order to estimate the channel response, 4 impulse signals are generated and transmitted during one OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) symbol. The intervals between the impulse signals are all equal in time domain. At the receiver, the impulse response signals are summed and averaged. And then, the averaged impulse response signal is zero padded and fast Fourier transformed to obtain the channel estimation. The BER performance of the proposed method is compared with those of conventional estimation method using the long training sequence in fast fading environments. The simulation results show that the proposed method improves by 3 dB in terms of Eb/No, compared with the conventional method.

  • This paper presents a CPW-fed antenna with three slots. The proposed antenna can operate at 1.9~2.1 GHz and 2.9~3.3 GHz which are generated by the two rectangular slots, and 4.5~11.6 GHz which is generated by the main patch. The semicircle-slot is used as a band-notched filter to stop at a desired band (5.150~5.825 GHz) limited by IEEE 802.11a or HIPERLAN/2 applications. The currents concentrate around corresponding slots at the desired band. The proposed antenna is very small in size, with overall dimensions of $27{\times}32{\times}1\;mm^3$ etched onto an FR4-printed circuit board (PCB).

  • In this paper, a dual band microstrip antenna with soft surface for gapfiller applications is proposed. The proposed antenna with similar radiation pattern and gain is fabricated on RO4003 substrate with a dielectric constant of 3.38 and a thickness of 0.508 mm, and operates in IEEE 802.11a/b bands. The size of the antenna is $50{\times}56.5{\times}5.5\;mm^3$ and the ground plane size including soft surface structure is $175.0{\times}154.4\;mm^2$. The antenna is fed by coaxial cable. The simulated bandwidths of the antenna are 2.388~2.493 GHz and 5.561~6.051 GHz for VSWR<2. The gains are 10.63 dBi and 10.33 dBi, respectively, for the lower and upper bands.

  • In this paper, to support a QoS level appropriate to the user in Wireless Home Network based Wireless LAN, we propose a QoS support architecture which includes Wired Network and Wireless Network. Actually, an important problem to support QoS in Wireless Home Network is approached not only on a MAC level in Wireless LAN but also on a integrated method to combine Network layer with Datalink layer. By applying the integrated QoS support method, it is possible to provide QoS support architecture using a Wireless LAN terminal with a minimum changing, and the proposed scheme has advantage of QoS support method, which is more superior than a existing scheme to support QoS in MAC level of Wireless LAN. Simulations results show that overall performance of the proposed scheme can be improved.

  • Indoor localization is becoming one of the most important technologies for smart mobile applications with different requirements from conventional outdoor location estimation algorithms. Fingerprinting location estimation techniques based on neural networks have gained increasing attention from academia due to their good generalization properties. In this paper, we propose a novel location estimation algorithm based on an ensemble of multiple neural networks. The neural network ensemble has drawn much attention in various areas where one neural network fails to resolve and classify the given data due to its' inaccuracy, incompleteness, and ambiguity. To the best of our knowledge, this work is the first to enhance the location estimation accuracy in indoor wireless environments based on a neural network ensemble using fingerprinting training data. To evaluate the effectiveness of our proposed location estimation method, we conduct the numerical experiments using the TGn channel model that was developed by the 802.11n task group for evaluating high capacity WLAN technologies in indoor environments with multiple transmit and multiple receive antennas. The numerical results show that the proposed method based on the NNE technique outperforms the conventional methods and achieves very accurate estimation results even in environments with a low number of APs.

  • As a proposed standard for radio resource measurement, 802.11k aims to provide key client feedback to WLAN access points and switches. The proposed standard defines a series of measurement requests and reports that detail Layer 1 and Layer 2 client statistics. In this paper, we analyze handoff processing time, radio specrum usage and handoff coverage using this scheme in home-network inter APs handoff.

  • The IEEE WAVE-based communication systems do not provide handover services since most of the application layer messages of a small amount containing text data that are related to safe driving. Multimedia data service such as web pages and CCTV video clips, however, require a seamless handover for continuation of a session via multiple RSUs. In this paper, we propose a new proactive handover protocol based on IEEE WAVE. According to the proposed handover protocol, the OBU notifies the old RSU of its departure from the coverage such that the old RSU forwards to the new RSU the data heading towards the OBU to be cached for the further delivery upon its entry into the new RSU's coverage. The simulation results are presented which shows the performance of the proposed protocol in terms of throughput, delivery ratio and handover delay.

  • The purpose of this research is to accurately estimate the location of a device using the received signal strength indicator (RSSI) of IEEE 802.11 WLAN for location tracking in indoor environments. For the location estimation method, we adopted the calibration model. By applying the Adaptive Zone Based K-NNSS (AZ-NNSS) algorithm, which considers the velocity of devices, this paper presents a 9% improvement of accuracy compared to the existing K-NNSS-based research, with 37% of the K-NNSS computation load. The accuracy is further enhanced by using a Kalman filter; the improvement was about 24%. This research also shows the level of accuracy that can be achieved by replacing a subset of the calibration data with values computed by a numerical equation, and suggests a reasonable number of calibration points. In addition, we use both the mean error distance (MED) and hit ratio to evaluate the accuracy of location estimation, while avoiding a biased comparison.
