An implementation methodology for CALS/EC system using IDEF0 and conceptual design in logistics industry (IDEF0와 개념적 설계를 이용한 물류 CALS/EC 구축 방안 연구)

  • In this paper, we suggest the system analysis method that links IDEF0 and conceptual analysis. Based on the method, we propose the implementation methodology that can be used to build CALS/EC systems in logistics industry. This paper presents data characteristic derived using ICAM DEFinition(IDEF0) and conceptual data modeling. Modeling methodology has been widely used for analysis and design of an enterprise information system. Further IDEF has been considered appropriate for developing functional and database models for the logistics environment.

  • In order to achieve a successful introduction of CALS, an enterprise model which is a concise description of what an enterprise does is required. The enterprise model mainly consists of a process model and a data model. The process model describes processes that create, change, combine, or destroy the entities within the enterprise. Several process modeling methodologies have been proposed. Each modeling methodology requires its own modeling view point, elements, and syntax. In developing a process model for CALS, these models created at different view points are required to analyze and design a system in a broad view. This paper aims at proposing an integration methodology for a process model. Specifically, IDEF0, IDEF3, and Petri Net are considered to be integrated. An IDEF0 model describing static functions of enterprise is transformed to an IDEF3 model describing behaviour of a system with additional information. Also, the IDEF3 model is transformed to a Petri Net model. These transformations will be automatically accomplished once the additional information for the transformation is provided.

  • Industrial efforts for increased market sales have directed towards the development and implementation of on-line marketing systems under recent e-business environment. Internet-based shopping mall is one of the most popular system. A business process model for an intermediary type shopping mall using IDEF0 has been presented in this study. Specific efforts have been focused on defining and analyzing a diversity of business processes embedded in practical B2B and B2C mall system operations. We first briefly examined the considered system with IDEF0 design. We then defined fundamental business processes within shopping mall systems. Upon careful examination and analysis of them, a detailed business process model based on IDEF methodology has been designed. The results in this study may well form a conceptual framework for shopping mall development and operations.

  • When function modeling with IDEF0 which is called as a standard methodology for CALS (FIPS 183), the initial work is to determine the purpose and viewpoint, and the next work is to generate a data list and an activity list. This work requires participant's discussion and agreements. The main problems for these working are a communication between participants and efficient discussion processing. Brainstorming is the most useful method for this work. The paper is for development for the modeling assistant tool to promote the business modeling. In this paper, we will introduce the tool which name is 'MindMapper' and 'Dyna-IDEF'. Mind-mapper is software for mind-map method that is used for creative thinking. Using this tool, we refine the result of the brainstorming about activity list and translate the result into the functional model of IDEF0 using Dyna-IDEF. The translated functional model is prototype model without ICOM arrows.

  • In this paper, we suggest the system analysis method that integrate IDEFO and IDEFIX. Based on the method, we propose the procedure which can be used to build CALS/EC system in manufacturing industry. Also, applying the procedure and method to electronic company, we construct the CALSEC prototype system. With the three types of view-point, process, information technology and standard, we proceed the implementation of CALS/EC in manufacturing industry. We divide the electronic company's process into five core process, 1)processes-product concept planning process. 2)product development process, 3)procurement process, 4)delivery/distribution process and 5)customer service process.

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest a method of concrete safety inspection management system for safety inspection. this research investigates the process of building safety inspection with IDEF0(Integration DEFinition) process modeling method, focusing on concrete durability inspection, and then suggests a data management system, which allows user communications between site and related unit with RDBMS(Relational Database Management System). The suggested system is expected to provide more efficient data sharing tools and consequently improve safety inspection's quality.

  • Functional Modeling methodology, IDEF0 is widely used for modeling, analysis and description of enterprise system. The limitation of modeling components restricts applicability and give rise to confusion about model. In this paper, we propose new method to extend IDEF0. The first is adding modeling components which are semantic representations. In addition to ICOMs, we add the time and cost component which is required to execute the function. The second is tracing mechanism. When we need some information, we drive the functions related with the information by reverse tracing of the function which produces the information as a output and input. Through the tracing, we find out the bottleneck process or high cost process. Finally, we suggest the final decomposition level. We call the final decomposed function into unit function which has only one output data. We can combine and reconstruct some of functions because an unit function is similar to ‘lego block’. To reach the integrated system, the main problem to be solved is the integration of information produced by different functional subsystem. This can be resolved when the creation of data must be dependent on only one function. Through view integration of function output, we can guarantee the integrity of data.

  • Recently, construction management technology based on information technology is being changed from numerical information management to visual information management with virtual reality (VR) method. This study suggests a IDEF0 model for development process of VR system for the planning, design and construction phases of civil engineering project. And the simulation functions by each phase based on VR were developed by using the suggested IDEF0 model. The developed virtual construction system can be used as an effective design review tool by visualization of design information based on 3D object.

  • The purposes of this paper are applying the IDEF(Integrated DEFinition), which was selected for standard methodology of CALS(Computer-aided Acquisition and Logistic Support) process modeling, to the acquisition process of the weapon system to activate DEfense CALS of the acquisition and management business of weapon system on Defense Planning and Management System and developing a AS-IS model which is usable and that the analysis of process problems results in. On this paper, We diagrammed the function of the acquisition and management of weapon system by using IDEF0 and presented AS-IS model. This paper focused on the development of AS-IS model which can put to practical use to find the problems of current acquisition and management process of weapon system and the embodiment of national defense CALS system. So more detailed analysis of current system and additional studies about TO-BE model would be the future research area.
