  • This study estimates landscape indices of the Gyeongan-stream watershed from 1975 to 2000 by classifying the land cover into impervious cover and pervious cover depending on its state using a landscape analysis program. For the indicator of biodiversity this study uses Total Core Area(TCA) among landscape indices. The estimated TCA is then used along with an Impervious Cover Model(ICM) to compare the number of fish species that appear in the Gyeongan-stream watershed. In the relations between TCA and the impervious cover ratio, it has been found that as the impervious cover ratio increases, TCA decreases accordingly. It shows that as the ratio of impervious cover in the landscape increases due to urbanization and development, the critical area that individual species need for isolation from outside has decreased. Also, the monitoring of the number of fish species that appear in the Gyeongan-stream watershed shows that in the areas with low impervious cover ratio there are more fish species appearing that inhabit in clean, uncontaminated water. It has been identified that the Gyeongan-stream watershed falls into the category of Impacted Stream and that its state is worsening, and since the watershed in this area responds to the impervious cover ratio very sensitively, its fish diversity it is required to improve the state of the basin through its proper and careful management.

  • This study was conducted to examine the establishment of bovine ES-like cells having pluripotency. The hatched blastocysts derived from culture of in vitro fertilized embryos for 10 to 12 days dissociated mechanically into ICM-and trophectoderm-rich clumps using needle, and cultured onto mitotically-inactivated MEF feeder layer. The primary colonies originated from ICM cells were detached mechanically 7 days after seeding and subsequent subculture was conducted at intervals of every 5 to 7 days. Two ES -like cell lines were established and maintained over 40 passages. Self-renewal of the established lines was confirmed by examining the alkaline phosphatase activity, stem cell-specific marker profiles including SSEA isotopes, Oct-4 and STAT3. Moreover, the established cell lines could produce anchorage-independent embryoid bodies (EBs) with gradual decrease of Oct-4 transcript level in time-dependent manner.

  • This study is aimed at finding an optimum density for 6-Dimethylaminopurine (6-DMAP) and cycloheximide which have an effect on the revitalization of porcine oocytes. The results were summarized as follows: 1. When 6-DMAP was treated with 2 mM for 2 hours, It showed a significantly (P<0.05) different high result in activation rate, cleavage rate and blastocyst growth rate of 51.2%, 52.7% and 25.2% respectively. 2. When Cycloheximide was treated with 5 ug/ml for 6 hours, It showed a significantly (P<0.05) different high result in activation rate, cleavage rate and blastocyst growth rate of 47.7%, 46.8%, and 27.3% respectively. 3. When it was cultured in the culture medium, NCSU, for 7 days after inducing activation with 6-DMAP and cycloheximide, it showed no differences in the number of inner cell mass (ICM) and total cell of blastocysts. To conclude, it has been examined for porcine oocytes to be suitable when 6-DMAP was treated with 2 mM for 2 hours, Cycloheximide with 5 ug/ml for 6 hours.

  • To improve the water quality of the recently constructed Siwhaho, sluice gates were operated to allow free exchange of water with the sea. This estuarine lake connected to the outer sea through narrow gates is affected mainly by flushing by gate operation and river flows and wind forcing sometimes. As a predicting tool far the water qualities, a three-dimensional finite volume model CE-QUAL-ICM is incorporated into a finite element hydrodynamic model, TIDE3D. In coupling these two different modules, a new error minimization technique is applied by considering conservation of mass. Model tests for one year after calibration and validation using field observation show that eutrophication and other biological changes reach quasi-steady state after initial 60 days of simulation, thus it would be necessary to consider moderate ramp up option to remove initial uncertainties due to cold start option. Sediment-water interaction might not be a concern in the long-term simulation, since its effect is negligible. Simulated results show the newly applied scheme can be applied with satisfaction not only fur lessening of eutrophic processes in an estuarine lake but also looking for some active circulation to improve water quality.

  • This study aims to figure out water quality impacts due to sudden disturbances of sediments during dike construction in land reclamation for the northern part of the Siwhaho Lake where heavily deteriorated settlements from upstream loadings are outstanding. We exploit a 3-D water quality model CE-QUAL-ICM combined with a hydrodynamic model TIDE3D. Simulations are done accounting water-sediment interaction in a 4-$\sigma$ layers. Long-term simulation for 1-year shows that bottom layers around the disturbance location are only affected and marks very high concentration. Complete vertical mixing appears at least 5km apart to downward due to complex effects of geometry, bathymetry and river inflows. It should be addressed that existing condition of the Siwhaho Lake stands for high concentration of COD and TP in winter and spring due to relatively high incoming loadings, however the effect of sediment disturbances yields reverse phenomena, i.e., impacts of dike construction arise greatly in summer and fall. Refined grid system consisting of 150m${\times}$150m rectangular grid, which is doubled system compared to previous study (Suh et al.,2002), gives affordable results by reducing flux differences through a cell especially in front of gate.

  • With increasing corrosion in RC (Reinforced Concrete) structures, cracks occurred due to corrosion products and bearing load resistance decreased. In this study, corrosion was induced through an accelerated corrosion test (ICM: Impressed Current Method) with 140 hours of duration, and changes in USV (Ultra-Sonic Velocity), flexural failure load, and corrosion weight were evaluated before and after corrosion test. Three levels of cover depth (20 mm, 30 mm, and 40 mm) were considered, and the initial cracking period increased and the rust around steel decreased with increasing cover depth. In addition, the USV linearly decreased with decreasing cover depth and increasing amount of corrosion. In the flexural loading test, the bending capacity decreased by more than 10% due to corrosion, but a clear correlation could not be obtained since the corrosion ratio was small, so that the effect of slip was greater than that of reduced cross-sectional area of steel due to corrosion. As cover depth increased, the produced corrosion amount and USV changed with a clear linear relationship, and the cracking period due to corrosion could be estimated by the gradient of the measured corrosion current.

  • Turbulence is a common phenomenon in astrophysical fluids such as the interstellar medium (ISM) and the intracluster medium (ICM). In turbulence studies it is customary to assume that fluid powered by an energy injection on a single scale. However, in astrophysical fluids, there can be many different driving mechanisms that act on different scales simultaneously. In this work, we assume multiple energy injection scale (2${\surd}$12 and 15

  • In this paper, we propose a semi-automatic method for semantic video object extraction which extracts meaningful objects from an input sequence with one correctly segmented training image. Given one correctly segmented image acquired by the user's interaction in the first frame, the proposed method automatically segments and tracks the objects in the following frames. We formulate the semantic object extraction procedure as an energy minimization problem at the fragment level instead of pixel level. The proposed energy function consists of two terms: data term and smoothness term. The data term is computed by considering patch similarity, color, and motion information. Then, the smoothness term is introduced to enforce the spatial continuity. Finally, iterated conditional modes (ICM) optimization is used to minimize energy function in a globally optimal manner. The proposed semantic video object extraction method provides faithful results for various types of image sequences.

  • The relationship of Oct-4 to pluripotent cells is suggested by its tightly restricted expression pattern during embryonic development. Just prior to implantation it is limited to pluripotent cells of the inner cell mass (ICM) that will form the embryo proper but is not expressed in the trophectoderm, the structure that will form the extraembryonic tissues. • Hans Freudenthal made important contributions to algebraic topology and geometry. He also made significant contributions in history of mathematics and mathematics education. In the 1970s, his intervention prevented the Netherlands from the movement of "new math". He had a very important role as a founder of realistic mathematics education and became famous internationally by that. Because he raised the profile of ICMI strongly, Bass used the expression 'Freudenthal Era' for the period that Freudenthal was the president of ICMI. Now many mathematics educator agree to use the Freudenthal Era when they mention about the history of ICMI. In this paper, we present on the life of Freudenthal and his contributions for mathematics education, especially ICMI.
