  • In principle, a resonance type sensor generally has an oscillation characteristic. Thus, an analysis on transient oscillation response takes a great interest since it is related to the performance of resonant sensor. In particular, system bandwidth has tradeoff with oscillation accuracy, i.e. quality factor. For an efficient analysis of the oscillation characteristic, several analytic methods are introduced and summarized. The results are fundamentally based on the classical describing function method, but can explain the transient oscillation by introducing time varying concept about the predicted limit cycle. After introducing those methods, the application results to the specified system...

  • Using LSM (laser scanning method) , the radius of curvature due to thermal deformation in polyimide film coated on Si substrate is measured. Since the polyimide film shows viscoelastic behavior, i.e., the modulus and deformation of the film vary with time and temperature, we estimate the relaxation modulus and the residual stresses of the polyimide film by measuring the radius of curvature and subsequently by performing viscoelastic analysis. The residual stresses relax by an amount of 10% at 100$^{\circ}C$ and 20% at 150$^{\circ}C$ for two hours.

  • Vibration behavior of an initially stressed beam on discretely spaced multiple elastic supports has been studied and a theoretical formulation of the system is derived using the variational principle. Unlike beams on an elastic foundation, discretely spaced supports can distort the beam mode shapes when the supports have rather large stiffness, i.e. usually expected beam modes cannot be obtained, but rather irregular mode shapes are observed. Conversely, irregular modes can be recovered by changing initial stress. Since support location is closely associated with the dynamic characteristics, this work also discusses eigenvalue sensitivity with respect to the support position and some numerical examples are investigated to illustrate the above findings.

  • We are developing a simple low-cost wind velocity sensor based on small microphones. The sensor system consists of 4 microphones covered with specially shaped wind screens, 4 pre-amplifiers that respond to low frequency, and a commercial sound interface with multi channel inputs. In this paper, we first present the principle of the sensor, i.e., technique to successfully suppress the influence of external noise existing in the environment in order to determine the wind velocity and the wind direction from the output from a microphone. Then, we present an application for generating realistic motions of a virtual tree swaying in real wind. Although the current sensor outputs significant leaps in a measured sequence of directions, the interactive animations demonstrate that it is usable for such applications, if we could reduce the leaps to some degree.

  • Agent, as a independent module, exchanges knowledge & information which are classified to their characteristics according to shared protocol. i.e. Agent Communication Language(AC1,). Fuzzy inference system represents the experiential knowledge as li~~guisticco ntrol rule and enables us to execute the knowledge using fuzzy inference. This study tries connecting fuzzy inference system with agent-based system and inspects applicability to hull form design through inferring principle dimension and hull form coefficients.

  • This paper deals with a 3-phase voltage disturbance generator. The proposed generator can be used for the performance teat of custom power devices with nonlinear load characteristics as well as linear load. The principle of the voltage sag, swell, outage, and unbalance generation is described. The switching pattern for the SCR thyristors in each mode is analysed to guarantee the system reliability. The validity of the proposed scheme is verified through simulation result.

  • This paper deals with power quality disturbance generator with phase jump function. The proposed generator can be applied to the performance test of custom power devices. Voltage sag, swell, outage, unbalance and phase jump after outage are provided by the generator. The phase jump operating principle of the generator is described and analysed. The control scheme of the disturbance generator is simple and hardware setup is cost effective compared with the conventional scheme. The usefulness of the generator is verified through simulation and experimental results.

  • The integrated thermal-chemical-mechanical (TCM) material removal model presented in the companion paper is dynamically simulated in this work. The model is applied to a Cu CMP process for the simulation and the results of the three individual ingredients composing the model are presented separately first. These results are then incorporated to calculate the total material removal rate (MRR) of the Cu CMP. It is shown that the non-linear trend of MRR with respect to the applied mechanical power (i.e., non-Prestonian behavior), which is not well explained with the models established in principle on conventional contact mechanics, may be due to the chemical reaction(s) varying non-linearly with the temperature in the wafer.

  • This paper proposes a unity power factor ZVT PWM single-phase rectifier. The ZVT soft switching are achieved by using a simple ZVT circuit, and the reduced conduction losses are achieved by employing a single-stage converter, instead of a typical double-stage converter composed of front end diode rectifier and cascaded boost rectifier. Furthermore, thanks to good features such as simple PWM control at constant frequency, low switch stress and low VAR rating of commutation circuits, it is suitable for high power applications. The principle of operation is explained in detail, and simulation results of the new converter are also included.
