  • I examined the projection of glutamatergic neurons in the lateral reticular nucleus into ansiform (crus l and ll) and paramedian lobules in the rat cerebellum using immunocytochemical methods with antiserum against glutamate combined with WGA-HRP histochemistry. The projections of glutamatergic neurons from the lateral reticular nucleus to crus l were most extensive in number among the three injection cases and the majority of projections originated at the dorsal to dorsomedial region of the ipsilateral magnocellular nucleus. Glutamate-immunoreactive cells projecting to crus ll were less extensive in number than those projecting to crus l and were mainly localized at the dorsomedial portion of the ipsilateral magnocellular nucleus. Double-labelled neurons projecting to crus l or crux ll were also located at ipsilateral subtrigeminal as well as contralateral magnocellular nuclei. Glutamatergic neurons projecting to paramedian lobules were moderate in number and mainly located at the dorsal area of the ipsilateral magnocellular nucleus. A few double-labelled cells were also found at ipsilateral subtrigeminal or contralateral magnocellular nuclei. The present study suggests that glutamate-immunoreactive neurons at the dorsal to dorsomedial magnocellular division of the lateral reticular nucleus may participate in the excitatory control of target neuronal activities at ipsilateral, posterior hemispheric lobules of the rat cerebellum.

  • Contact angle measuring device was developed in this laboratory using laser beam projec-tion. The new method allows for rapid and direct determination of stationary, advancing, and receding contact angles on both planar and nonplanar solid surfaces, including fibers with very small diameters. A narrow laser beam impinges on an edge of an interface of liquid and solid. This makes two projected laser beam lines upon and radiating from the center of a protractor scale on a tangent screen. Contact angle is measured by determining the difference in angle on the protractor scale between the two projected laser beam lines. Contact angles measured on Perspex-CQ using this instrument were in agreement with the literature. it was shown that this instrument provides a novel method for the facile and accurate measurement of contact angles.

  • This work aims to study the effect of stiffener ties in the behavior of intermediate length open section Cold-Formed Steel (CFS) Columns under axial compression. A comparative study on the behaviour and strength of Cold Formed Steel Columns by changing the direction of projection of lips (i.e., inwards or outwards) are also done. In this work two types of sections were considered Type-I section with lip projecting outwards (hat) and Type-II section with lip projecting inwards (channel). The length of the columns is predicted by performing elastic buckling analysis using CUFSM software. The theoretical analysis is performed using DSM - S100;2007, AS/NZ: 4600-2005 and IS: 801-1975. The compression tests are carried out in a 400 kN loading frame with hinged-hinged end condition. The non-linear numerical analysis is performed using Finite Element software ANSYS 12.0 to simulate the experimental results. Extensive parametric study is carried out by varying the width and spacing of the stiffener ties. The results are compared; the effects of stiffener ties on behaviour and load carrying capacity on both types of columns are discussed.

  • This paper deals with a method for estimating variance components on the basis of projections under the assumption of random effects model. It discusses how to use projections for getting sums of squares to estimate variance components. The use of projections makes the vector subspace generated by the model matrix to be decomposed into subspaces that are orthogonal each other. To partition the vector space by the model matrix stepwise procedure is used. It is shown that the suggested method is useful for obtaining Type I sum of squares requisite for the ANOVA method.

  • In this paper, the design sensitivity evaluation based on the 2-dimensional finite clement discretization is presented for the voltage source and eddy current problem. And it is applied to the two shape design problems of the rotor slot of 3-phase squirrel cage induction motors. The first is to increase the starting torque while keeping the rated torque fixed. The other is only to increase the torque at the rated speed while keeping the starting torque fixed. As an optimization method, the Gradient Projection method is used to control casily the torques for various speeds of rotor. One fourth of rotor is analyzed by using a semi-periodic boundary condition. Because the shape of rotor slot has much influence on the slip torque characteristic, the 10 design parameters are taken on the interface between rotor core and rotor bar. The initial shape of rotor slot is the trapezoidal typo with rounding corners.

  • When screen size of the Flat Panel Display (FPD) becomes larger, the traditional photo-lithography using photomasks and UV lamps might not be possible to make patterns on Photo Resist (PR) material due to limitation of the mask size. Though the maskless photo-lithography using UV lasers and scanners had been developed to implement large screen display, it was very slow to apply the process for mass-production systems. The laser exposure system using 405 nm semi-conductor lasers and Digital Micromirror Devices (DMD) has been developed to overcome above-mentioned problems and make more than 100 inches FPD devices. It makes very fine patterns for full HD display and exposes them very fast. The optical engines which contain DMD, Micro Lens Array (MLA) and projection lenses are designed for 10 to 50 ${\mu}m$ bitmap pattern resolutions. The test patterns for LCD and PDP displays are exposed on PR and Dry Film Resists (DFR) which are coated or laminated on some specific substrates and developed. The fabricated edges of the sample patterns are well-defined and the results are satisfied with tight manufacturing requirements.

  • According to the Rayleigh-Ritz approximation method, a solution can be represented as a finite series consisting of space-dependent functions, which satisfy all the geometric boundary conditions of the problem and appropriate smoothness requirement in the interior of the domain. In this paper, an efficient formulation for solving structural dynamics systems in frequency domain is presented. A general procedure called Ritz modes (or vectors) generation algorithm is used to generate the admissible functions, i.e. Ritz modes, Then, the use of direct superposition of the Ritz modes is utilized to reduce the size of the problem in spatial dimension via geometric coordinates projection. For the reduced system, the frequency domain approach is applied. Finally, a numerical example is presented to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • Let $\mathcal{A}$ and $\mathcal{B}$ be two $C^*$-algebras such that $\mathcal{A}$ is prime. In this paper, we investigate the additivity of maps ${\Phi}$ from $\mathcal{A}$ onto $\mathcal{B}$ that are bijective and satisfy $${\Phi}(A^*B+{\eta}BA^*)={\Phi}(A)^*{\Phi}(B)+{\eta}{\Phi}(B){\Phi}(A)^*$$ for all $A,B{\in}\mathcal{A}$ where ${\eta}$ is a non-zero scalar such that ${\eta}{\neq}{\pm}1$. Moreover, if ${\Phi}(I)$ is a projection, then ${\Phi}$ is a ${\ast}$-isomorphism.

  • We propose a fuzzy rule based method for structure preserving dimensionality reduction. This method selects a small representative sample and applies Sammon's method to project it. The input data points are then augmented by the corresponding projected(output) data points. The augmented data set thus obtained is clustered with the fuzzy c-means(FCM) clustering algorithm. Each cluster is then translated into a fuzzy rule for projection. Our rule based system is computationally very efficient compared to Sammon's method and is quite effective to project new points, i.e., it has good predictability.

  • We developed the projected l-axial skew-normal(LASN) family of distributions for I-axial data. The LASN family of distributions contains the semicircular skew-normal(SCSN) and the circular skew-normal(CSN) families of distributions as special cases. The LASN densities are similar to the wrapped skew-normal densities for the small values of the scale parameter. However CSN densities have more heavy tails than those of the wrapped skew-normal densities on the circle. Furthermore the CSN densities have two modes as the scale parameter increases. The LASN distribution has very convenient mathematical features. We extend the LASN family of distributions to a bivariate case.
