New CCD photometric observations of GX Aur have been made between 2004 and 2015. Our light curves are the first ever compiled and display the variable O'Connell effect. The light variations are satisfactorily modeled by including time-varying cool-spots on the component stars. Our light curve synthesis indicates that the eclipsing pair is an A-type contact binary with parameters of i = 81.1 deg, ${\Delta}T=36K$, q = 0.950 and f = 46%. Including our 25 timing measurements, a total of 83 times of minimum light spanning about 66 yr were used for a period study. It was found that the orbital period of GX Aur has varied due to two periodic oscillations superposed on an upward-opening parabolic variation. The long-term period increase rate is deduced as $+9.636{\times}10^{-10}d\;yr^{-1}$, which can be produced as a mass transfer from the secondary star to the primary at a rate of $3.136{\times}10^{-6}M_{\odot}\;yr^{-1}$, among the largest rates for contact systems. The periods and semi-amplitudes of the two periodic variations are about $P_3=8.7yr$ and $P_4=21.2yr$, and $K_3=0.011d$ and $K_4=0.017d$, respectively. The most reasonable explanation for both cycles is a pair of light-travel-time effects driven by the possible existence of an unseen third and fourth components with projected masses of $M_3=0.91M_{\odot}$ and $M_4=1.09M_{\odot}$ in eccentric orbits of $e_3=0.13$ and $e_4=0.73$. Because no third light was detected in the light curve synthesis, each circumbinary object could be a compact star or a binary itself.
The muscarinic antagonist 1-[benzilic 4, 4'-$[^3H]$ QUINUCLIDINYL BENZILATE $([^3H]$ QNB) bound to a single class of muscarinic receptors with high affinity in rabbit ileal membranes. The $K_D\;and\;B_{ max}$ values for $([^3H]$ QNB calculated from analysis of saturation isotherms were 52.5 pM AND 154 fmol/mg, respectively. Chlopheniramine (CHP), histamine $H_1$ blocker, increased $K_D$ vlue for $([^3H]$QNB without affecting the binding site concentrations and Hill coefficient. The $K_i$ value of CHP for inhibition of $([^3H]$QNB binding in ileal membranes was 1.44\mu{M}$ and the pseudo-Hill coefficient for CHP was close to unit. In the functional assay carbachol, muscarinic agonist, increased the contractile force of ileum with $ED_{50}$ value of $0.11\mu{M}$. CHP caused the rightward shift of the dose-response curve to carbachol. The $pA_2$ value of CHP determined from Schild analysis of carbacholinduced contraction was 5.77 and the slope was unity indicating competitive antagonism with carbachol. The dissociation constant $(K_i)$ of CHP obtained in competitive experiments with $([^3H]$ QNB was similar to the $K_A$ value (1.69 \mu{M)}$ of CHP as inhibitor of carbachol induced contraction in rabbit ileum. This result suggest that the binding of $H_i$ blocker. CHP, vs $([^3H]$QNB to muscarinic receptors in ileal membranes represents an interaction with a receptor of physiological relevance.
Chemically modified electrodes(CMEs) for Ag(I) were constructed by incoporating 1,5,9,13-tetrathiacyclohexadecane([16]-ane-$S_4$) with a conventional carbon-paste mixture composed of graphite powder and nujol oil. Ag(I) ion was chemically deposited onto the surface of the modified electrode with [16]-ane-$S_4$ by immersion of the electrode in the acetate buffer solution(pH=4.5) containing $5.0{\times}10^{-4}M$ Ag(I) ion. And then the electrode deposited with Ag(I) was reduced at -0.3V vs. S.C.E. Well-defined stripping voltammetric peaks could be obtained by scanning the potential to the positive direction. The CME surface was regenerated with exposure to 0.1M $HNO_3$ solution and was reused for the determination of Ag(I) ion. When deposition/measurement/regeneration cycles were 10 times, the response could be reproduced with relative standard deviation of 6.08%. In case of differential pulse stripping voltammetry, the calibration curve for Ag(I) was linear over the range of $5.0{\times}10^{-7}{\sim}1.5{\times}10^{-6}M$. And the detection limit was $2.0{\times}10^{-7}M$. Various ions such as Cd(II), Ni(II), Pb(II), Zn(II), Mn(II), Mg(II), EDTA, and oxalate(II) did not influence the determination of Ag(I) ion, except Cu(II) ion.
This experiment was carried out to investigate the effects of monosaccharides extracted by saturated portland cement solution on the cement setting in comparision with the inhibitory index (I) of each lignocellulosic-cement system. The wood species which have been widely reforested in Korea, Populus alba-grandulosa, Larix leptolepis, Abies holophylla, Pinus koraiensis, Pinus rigida, Pinus densiflora and agricultural wastes of rice husk and rice stalk were used at this study. The wood meal, 0.50g on dry weight basis, through 0.83 mm(20 mesh) and retained on 0.35mm (40 mesh) screen was extracted by 25 ml saturated portland cement solution and the pH of saturated portland cement solution Was 12.7. To eliminate cation exsisting in the extracted solution, the cation exchange column was used (Fig. 4). Afterwards the extracted monosaccharides were reduced into alditols with sodium borohydride and analyzed by the gas-liquid chromatography for xylan, mannan, arabinan, galactan, gluean. The heat of cement hydration for lignocellulosic-cement system was measured in Dewar flask (Fig. 2). And then the inhibitory indices were calculated from maximum hydration temperature, time and maximum slops of hydration curve of ligno cellulosic-cement systems. The results obtained were as follows; (1) The inhibitory index of pines-Pinus rigida (I=29.33) and Pinus densiflora (I=35.76), were lower than that of poplar-Populus alba-glandulosa (I=41.48), and the index of Larix ieptoiepis (I=73.00) was the highest among eight lignocellulosic-cement systems, and accordingly both Pinus rigida and Pinus des(flora were seemed to be good wood species for wood-cement composite manufacture. (2) In case of Pinus rigida, the inhibitory index was 29.33 and the ratio of the hexoses to the pemoses was 6.04 and in case of Larix leptolepis, the index and the ratio were 73.00 and 35.19, respectively. Therefore the inhibitory index increased with increasing the ratios of the hexoses to the pentoses. (3) The richer amount of xylose and mannose in species caused decreasing the slops of the hydration curve of the lignocellulosic-cement system, prohahly due to the chemical adsorption of the acetyl groups in the hemicellulose on the surface of cement grains. (4) The amoun of xylose and mannose were significant to the inhibitory index of each lignocellulosic-cement system but any specific relation between the amount of glucose and inhibitory index was not found.
In practice, analysis of laterally loaded piles is carried out using beams on non-linear Winkler springs model (often known as p-y method) due to its simplicity, low computational cost and the ability to model layered soils. In this approach, soil-pile interaction along the depth is characterized by a set of discrete non-linear springs represented by p-y curves where p is the pressure on the soil that causes a relative deformation of y. p-y curves are usually constructed based on semi-empirical correlations. In order to construct API/DNV proposed p-y curve for clay, one needs two values from the monotonic stress-strain test results i.e., undrained strength ($s_u$) and the strain at 50% yield stress (${\varepsilon}_{50}$). This approach may ignore various features for a particular soil which may lead to un-conservative or over-conservative design as not all the data points in the stress-strain relation are used. However, with the increasing ability to simulate soil-structure interaction problems using highly developed computers, the trend has shifted towards a more theoretically sound basis. In this paper, principles of Mobilized Strength Design (MSD) concept is used to construct a continuous p-y curves from experimentally obtained stress-strain relationship of the soil. In the method, the stress-strain graph is scaled by two coefficient $N_C$ (for stress) and $M_C$ (for strain) to obtain the p-y curves. $M_C$ and $N_C$ are derived based on Semi-Analytical Finite Element approach exploiting the axial symmetry where a pile is modelled as a series of embedded discs. An example is considered to show the application of the methodology.
Methyl orange(MO) and cetyltrimethylammonium bromide(CTA) were mixed and added to 10ml of the buffer solution and then the solution was shaken for 5 minutes. The maximum absorption wavelength of the reaction product was 419nm. Dichloromethane was the best extracting solvent among the several organic solvents and the most suitable pH range was 2~8. When the CTA-MO calibration curve was made in the best experimental condition, the Lambert-Beer's law was obeyed in the range of CTA concentration of $1.5\times$$10^{-5}$~1.0$\times$$10^{-4}M$ by UV spectrophotometer. This method was possible to determine quaternary ammonium salts in the pharmaceutical preparations.
This paper presents methods to the construction of regular and irregular low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes based on Euclidean geometries over the Galois field. Codes constructed by these methods have quasi-cyclic (QC) structure and large girth. By decomposing hyperplanes in Euclidean geometry, the proposed irregular LDPC codes have flexible column/row weights. Therefore, the degree distributions of proposed irregular LDPC codes can be optimized by technologies like the curve fitting in the extrinsic information transfer (EXIT) charts. Simulation results show that the proposed codes perform very well with an iterative decoding over the AWGN channel.
Single Josephson junctions, which are of cross type, of $50 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ {\times} 50 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$$ were fabricated under several oxidation conditions to Investigate controllabilities of critical current density (Jc) with the standard KRISS processes. Considering that the self-field effect suppresses the observed critical current (Ice) at high Jc region, we could reasonably estimate Jc values from I-V observations. The dependence of the obtained Jc as a function of exposure, which is equal to pressure (P) times time (t), was well fitted to a curve of Jc ~ (Pt)-0.34. The maximum Jc value at the controllability margin was found to be 3 kA/cm$^2$with the current equipment set up.
Thermal spraying onto the metal substrate has been widely used as a technique of the surface treatment in the various industrial field. A wide range of thermal spray technologies exist and all rely on the fundamental process of fusing a metal feedstock, atomizing it and transporting it to the surface of a substrate. Specially, these methods have been taken into account as the protection method against the corrosion. In this study, the polarization characteristics were carried out on the thermal sprayed coating layer immersed in various pH of diluted aqueous solutions at $25^{\circ}C$. Aluminum, Zinc, Ni-base alloy, alumina and polyethylene powder were used with sprayed coating materials. From the polarization curves, the electrochemical corrosion potential($E_{corr}$) and the corrosion current density($I_{corr}$) were investigated.
The internal crack propagation, the failure mode and ultimate load bearing capacity of the steel-concrete-steel composite beam under the four-point-bend loading is investigated by the numerical simulation. The results of load - displacement curve and failure mode are in good agreement with experiment. In order to study the failure mechanism, the composite beam has been modeled, which part interface interaction between steel and concrete is considered. The results indicate that there are two failure modes: (a) When the strength of the interface is lower than that of the concrete, failure happens at the interface of steel and concrete; (b) When the strength of the interface is higher than that of the concrete, the failure modes is cohesion failure, i.e., and concrete are stripped because of the shear cracks at concrete edge.
