Surface of Pt/$Al_2O_3$ model catalyst was produced on an aluminum foil with surface area of 1 $cm^2$ The aluminum surface was oxidized under $10 ^5Torr$Torr oxygen and platinum was deposited on top of the oxide layer using a plasma evaporation source. Conversion of I-butene was performed on the model catalyst surface. Isomerization was the major reaction in I-butene conversion on the aluminum oxide layer. Addition of Pt on the aluminum oxide layer induces hydrogenation of I-butene. Selectivity for the hydrogenation increases as the amount of Pt on alumina increases.
A distributed hardware-in-the-loop simulation (HILS) platform is developed for designing an automotive engine control system. The HILS equipment consists of a widely used PC and commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) I/O boards instead of a powerful computing system and custom-made I/O boards. The distributed structure of the HILS system supplements the lack of computing power. These features make the HILS equipment more cost-effective and flexible. The HILS uses an automatic code generation extension, REAL-TIME WORKSHOP$^{ (RTW$^{) of MATLAB$^{ tool-chain and RT-LAB$^{, which enables distributed simulation as well as the detection and generation of digital event between simulation time steps. The mean value engine model, which is used in control design phase, is imported into this HILS. The engine model is supplemented with some I/O subsystems and I/O boards to interface actual input and output signals in real-time. The I/O subsystems are designed to imitate real sensor signals with high fidelity as well as to convert the raw data of the I/O boards to the appropriate forms for proper interfaces. A lot of attention is paid to the generation of a precise crank/ earn signal which has the problem of quantization in a conventional fixed time step simulation. The detection of injection! command signal which occurs between simulation time steps are also successfully compensated. In order to prove the feasibility of the proposed environment, a simple PI controller for an air-to-fuel ratio (AFR) control is used. The proposed HILS environment and I/O systems are shown to be an efficient tool to develop various control functions and to validate the software and hardware of the engine control system.

Using the sbsorption coefficients and the weighting factors of the gray gas, the total emissivities of C $O_{2}$- $H_{2}$O and C $O_{2}$- $H_{2}$O- transient species-soot gas mixtures can be expressed by the following equation, [a numerical formula] Where, $a_{i}$ and $K_{i}$ represent the weighting factor and the absorption coeffient of i-gray gas respectively; L is the pathlength of the gas. This equation is widely used for the analyses of the radiation heat transfer in the combustors of internal combustion engines and in the furnace of external combustion engines. In this work, a simple calculation model of the weighting factor and the absorption coeffient of the above equation was developed. The weighting factors and the absorption coefficients of combustion products were calculated by applying the model to various kinds of fossil fuels such as coal and heavy oil. Then, the computed total emissivities for each fuel and pathlength were compared with measured and calculated values which have been already published in the literatures. The followings were the results obtained through the comparisons between the calculated emissivites and the published values; the developed model for the calculations of the weighting factor and the absorption coefficient of C $O_{2}$- $H_{2}$O and C $O_{2}$- $H_{2}$O- transient species-soot gas mixtures could be applied over the wide ranges of the temperature and the pathlength; the errors between the total emissivities calculted and the values published were maximum 10%, and average 1%, respectively.
Clusters of workstations (COW) are becoming an attractive option for parallel scientific computing, a field formerly reserved to the MPPs, because their cost-performance ratio is usuallybetter than that of comparable MPPS, and their hardware and software can be easily enhanced to thelatest generations. In this paper we present the design and implementation of our runtime library forclusters of workstations, called "Collective I/O Clustering". The library provides a friendlyprogramming model for the I/O of irregular applications on clusters of workstations, being completelyintegrated with the underlying communication and I/O system. In the collective I/O clustering, two I/Oconfigurations are possible. In the first I/O configuration, all processors allocated can act as I/Oservers as well as compute nodes. In the second I/O configuration, only a subset of processors canact as I/O servers, The compression and software caching facilities have been incorporated into thecollective 1/0 clustering to optimize the communication and I/O costs. All the performance results wereobtained on the IBM-SP machine, located at Argonne National Labs.
The ethanol extract from the fruit of Terminalia chebula (Combretaceae) and the hook of Uncaria sinensis (Rubiaceae) exhibited significant inhibitory activity on oxidative stress and the age-dependent shortening of the telomeric DNA length. In the peroxidation model using t-BuOOH, human epidermal keratinocytes-neonatal foreskin (HEK-N/F) cells were treated with the T. chebula and U. sinensis extracts. The results showed a notable enhancing effect on the cell viability of 60.5 ${\pm}$ 3.8 and 65.0 ${\pm}$ 3.0%, respectively, by 50 $\mu\textrm{g}$/ml of the extracts. (omitted)

The color appearance of a yarn-dyed woven fabric depends on the color of the yarn as well as on the weave structure. Predicting the final color appearance or formulating the recipe is a difficult task, considering the interference of colored yarns and structure variations. In a modern fabric design process, the intended color appearance is attained through a digital color methodology based on numerous color data and color mixing recipes (i.e., color prediction models, accumulated in CAD systems). For successful color reproduction, accurate color prediction models should be devised and equipped for the systems. In this study, the final colors of yarn-dyed woven fabrics were predicted using six geometric-color mixing models (i.e., simple K/S model, log K/S model, D-G model, S-N model, modified S-N model, and W-O model). The color differences between the measured and the predicted colors were calculated to evaluate the accuracy of various color models used for different weave structures. The log K/S model, D-G model, and W-O model were found to be more accurate in color prediction of the woven fabrics used. Among these three models, the W-O model was found to be the best one as it gave the least color difference between the measured and the predicted colors.
Recently manufacturing companies have used PLC control programs popularly for their automated production systems. Since the life cycle of production process is not so long, the change of the production lines occur frequently. Most of changes happen with modification of the position information and control process of the equipment. PLC control program is also modified based on the fundamental process. Therefore, to verify new PLC program by configuring virtual space according to real environment is needed. In this paper we show a logical modeling method, based on Timed-FSA useful for sequence control and dead-lock prevention. There is a problem wasting user's labor and time when defining a variety of states in a device. To overcome this problem, we propose an extended I-O model based on existing methods by adding a token concept of Petri Nets. Also we will show the usability of the extended I-O modeling through user study.
This paper presents a mathematical model suitable for the calculation of laminated glass, i.e. glass plates combined with an interlayer material. The model is based on a beam differential equation for each glass plate and a separate differential equation for the slip in the interlayer. In addition to slip, the model takes into account prestressing force in the interlayer. It is possible to combine the two contributions arbitrarily, which is important because the glass sheet fabrication process changes the stiffness of the interlayer in ways that are not easily predictable and could introduce prestressing of varying magnitude. The model is suitable for reformulation into an inverse procedure for calculation of the relevant parameters. Model consisting of a system of differential-algebraic equations, proved too stiff for cases with the thin interlayer. This novel approach covers the full range of possible stiffnesses of layered glass sheets, i.e., from zero to infinite stiffness of the interlayer. The comparison of numerical and experimental results contributes to the validation of the model.

In this paper, the I/O parameters of existing predictive models were analyzed to construct a composite disaster prediction model that incorporates a previously developed natural disaster prediction model and a prediction of social disaster prediction models. A complex disaster prediction model indicates a combination of multiple disasters, not a single disaster. Such a complex disaster was mainly linked to a social disaster caused by natural disasters resulting from natural disasters, so it conducted a study of natural disasters and social disaster prediction models. Several estimates were analyzed based on several predictive models of prediction models, and the I/O parameters applied universally were derived by the types of disaster types. In this paper, It will help develop a study aimed at building a complex disaster prediction model.

We investigated the I-V curves and differential tunneling conductance of two, CoFeB/MgO/CoFeB-based, magnetic tunnel junctions (MTJs): one with a low tunneling magnetoresistance (TMR; 22%) and the other with a high TMR (352%). This huge TMR difference was achieved by different MgO sputter conditions rather than by different annealing or deposition temperature. In addition to the TMR difference, the junction resistances were much higher in the low-TMR MTJ than in the high-TMR MTJ. The low-TMR MTJ showed a clear parabolic behavior in the dI/dV-V curve. This high resistance and parabolic behavior were well explained by the Simmons' simple barrier model. However, the tunneling properties of the high-TMR MTJ could not be explained by this model. The characteristic tunneling properties of the high-TMR MTJ were a relatively low junction resistance, a linear relation in the I-V curve, and conduction dips in the differential tunneling conductance. We explained these features by applying the coherent tunneling model.
