  • Objectives: The aim of this study is to investigate the correlation between the constitution of Sasang and the bee venom hypersensitive reaction, as well as the hypersensitive reaction occurrence ratio between males and females, for patients treated with sweet bee venom (SBV) and who had undergone an examination of the constitution of the Sasang. Methods: All 81 patients enrolled in the study were treated with SBV and underwent an examination of the constitution of Sasang from January 2010 to July 2012. We divided them into two groups for the hypersensitive reaction and no response and compared the distributions of the Sasang-constitution types for the two groups as well as the hypersensitive reaction occurrence ratio between males and females. Results: No significant differences were found between the hypersensitive-reaction group and the no-response group (p = 0.390), but the hypersensitive-reaction occurrence ratio was statistically higher in females than in males (p = 0.001). Conclusions: Hypersensitive reactions do not seem to be related to the Sasang-constitution types, but the possibility of hypersensitive reactions among females seems to be higher than it is among males.

  • Human dental pulps obtained from normal teeth, hypersensitive teeth and teeth with inflamed pulp were studied to measure and to compare the endogenous levels of arachidonic acid metabolites in order to see the relative activities of the different pathways involved in arachidonic acid metabolism. Pulp homogenates were incubated with $^{14}C$-arachidonic acid and lipid solvent extracts were separated by thin layer chromatography (TLC) to be analyzed by autoradiography and TLC analyzer. 1. The most significant metabolite was HETEs showing $96.9{\pm}37.8$pmol/mg tissue protein/hr in normal pulp, $169.2{\pm}76.7$ in hypersensitive pulp and $385.4{\pm}113.2$ in inflamed pulp. In normal pulp $LTB_4$, 6-keto-$PGF_{1\alpha}+PGE_2$, $TXB_2$ and unidentified metabolite were formed in decreasing order. While in hypersensitive and inflamed pulp 6-keto-$PGF_{1\alpha}+PGE_2$, $LTB_4$, $TXB_2$ and unidentified metabolite were formed in decreasing order. 2. In hypersensitive pulp only HETEs were significantly increased when compared with that in normal pulp. The levels of all the converted metabolites in inflamed pulp were significantly increased compared with those in normal pulp. In inflamed pulp, the levels of $TXB_2$ and HETEs were significantly increased compared with those in hypersensitive pulp. 3. The ratio of each metabolites to the total converted metabolites showed an increased value of $TXB_2$ and 6-keto-$PGF_{1\alpha}+PGE_2$, as the degree of inflammation was increased, while that of HETEs decreased both in hypersensitive pulp and inflamed pulp more than in normal pulp. 4. The relative amounts of the total metabolites formed in lipoxygenase pathway to cyclo-oxygenase pathway were 6.8 fold in normal pulp, 4.4 fold in hypersensitive pulp and 3.8 fold in inflamed pulp.

  • The effects of the various ligands on the oscillator strengths of the hypersensitive transitions of Nd(III) and Ho(III) have been studied in aqueous solution. The ligands used in the study are furoate, anthranilate, and squarate. The covalent character of the metal-ligand bond in the complex is discussed on the basis of the correlation diagram between pKa of the ligands and the oscillator strengths of the complexes previously reported.

  • The hypersensitive $f{\rightarrow}f$ transitions of Nd(III), Ho(III), and Er(III) have been studied for some lanthanide complexes in aqueous solution. Based on the linear correlation between the oscillator strength of the transition and the basicity$(pK_a)$ of the ligand, the covalency in the metal-ligand bonding is discussed for lanthanide anthranilate, pyrazine-2-carboxylate, and pyruvate.

  • Praziquantel is the drug of choice for clonorchiasis. Since clonorchiasis is endemic in most river basins, praziquantel has been widely used for 30 years in Korea. A 54-year-old Korean woman suffered from hypersensitive reactions, such as nausea, dyspnea, rash, and urticaria after taking the first dose of praziquantel to treat clonorchiasis. She ingested one dose again and the same symptoms appeared, and she was treated at a clinic with anti-histamines. She tried one more dose with anti-histamines but found the same symptoms. Later, she was found to pass eggs of Clonorchis sinensis and medicated with flubendazole. The hypersensitive reaction to praziquantel is rare but occurs. This is the 5th case report in the world.

  • The writer reports the conclusions gained from study about the cause of the hypersensitive large intestine syndrome with Dongeuibogam as the central figure through researching the disharmony among Body Essence, Vital Energy, Mentality, and Blood, mutual action of five viscera and six bowels, and external shapes. The hypersensitive large intestine syndrome is generally chronic and recurred in many cases, so it is more efficacious than symptomatic to treat according to find the contradictions of individual shapes. The shapes and cases suffering frequently the hypersensitive large intestine syndrome are Gi-kwa and Sin-kwa, having a long nose, having a bruised spot on Triple warmer, man with inclined mouth, Taeeum type, man with congested fluids, man with colic symptoms. The hypersensitive large intestine syndrome in Oriental medicine is recognized of diarrhea, constipation, abdominal pain, abdominal distention and fullness caused by seven emotions. In Dongeuibogam it can be found out the similarity in depressive symptoms due to disorder of Gi, stagnation of Gi, dysphasia due to disorder of Gi, diarrhea due to disorder of Gi, fullness of due to Gi, diarrhea due to phlegm-retention, retention of undigested food, immoderate drinking, hypo-function of the spleen, or deficiency, abdominal pain from colic symptom, and difficulty in defecation and urination, internal injury, diarrhea due to weakness and fatigue. If the Jung, Gi, Sin, and Hyul composed the human body is broken harmony, the function of large intestinal transmission would be fallen, so similar symptoms like the hypersensitive large intestine syndrome are gotten. Especially Gi-kwa suffers diarrhea, constipation abdominal pain, and abdominal distention and fullness due to depressive symptoms from disorder of Seven emotions or Seven Gi. And Sin-kwa suffers from the hypersensitive large intestine syndrome due to emotional restlessness having an influence on rhythmic movement of abdomen. Examining between five viscera and six bowels and the hypersensitive large intestine syndrome, Liver cannot disperse well having influence on mutual relation of Liver-Large intestine, Heart reduces the function of defecation and urination not to control the seven emotions, Lung having exterior and interior relation with intestine has an influence on primordial energy and let the main symptoms occur, Spleen circulating the body fluid let the main symptoms occur due to malfunction of circulation, Kidney locating in lower part of the body has deep connection with intestine, so let the disorder. Urinary bladder is connected with intestine in moisture metabolism, Stomach is connected in receive and transmission, Small intestine is connected in absorption and excretion, from small intestine pain disturbing the abdominal movement, Samcho managing the catharsis of lower heater if declined its function causes the hypersensitive large intestine syndrome. The colic symptoms of Front private parts which disorder in lower abdomen give rise to abdominal pains, difficulty in defecation and urination due to Cold are similar to the hypersensitive large intestine syndrome. The treatments of applying the shapes of colic syndrome advocated by Master Park can be efficacious cure in clinic. Researching after the clinical cases of Master Park advocating Hyungsang medicine, we came to know that plenty of prescriptions of internal injury are applied and take good effects.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the desensitizing effects of a Nd:YAG laser (Sunlase, SUNRISE Technologies, Inc., USA) irradiation on cervically exposed hypersensitive dentine. 45 patients was irradiated with pulsed Nd:YAG laser (1.5 W, 20 Hz, 75 mJ/pulse, 4 minutes) as the experimental group, 27 patients was mock irradiated as the control group. The degree of sensitivity to the thermal and tactile stimuli were determined qualitatively with an evaporative stimulus defined as two times air blast at a distance of 3 mm from each site to be tested and with a mechanical stimulus as a slightly scratching the cervical site with a dental explorer. A qualitative registration of the degree of discomfort was determined according to a numerical pain scale(NPS) in an 11-point scale in which 0= "no pain" and 10="most excruciating pain imaginable". Recordings were assessed before treatment, immediately after, 1 and 2 weeks after treatment. Pain tolerance threshold and pulp vitality were evaluated with electric pulp tester before and immediately after treatment. 1. Desensitizing of hypersensitive dentine with Nd:YAG laser irradiation was more effective than that with mock irradiation. 2. The placebo effect of mock irradiation was recognized for severe sensitive teeth($NPS\;{\geqq}\;6$), but not for moderate sensitive teeth(NPS < 6). 3. Laser irradiation did not affect the pain tolerance threshold and pulp vitality of the hypersensitive teeth. 4. Desensitizing effect of laser irradiation for the hypersensitive teeth had been continuing at least 2 weeks. It was concluded that desensitizing of hypersensitive dentine with a Nd:YAG laser is effective and the maintenance of the positive result was more prolonged than the placebo effect.

  • In the present study, it was found that the susceptible variety Khao-tah-haeng 17, at all four predisposing temperature regimes, produced more typical lesions than hypersensitive lesions when inoculated with most of the blast fungus isolates. Tetep, Carreon, IR36 and Sensho produced more hypersensitive lesions than typical lesions at all four predisposing temperature regimes. Highly significant differences among predisposing temperature regimes and rice varieties for number of hypersensitive lesions and number of typical lesions were found. Symptom occurrence on a specific variety, as measured by the number of typical lesions, was more affected by predisposition temperature or blast isolate than by temperature and isolate combined. Symptom occurrence on a specific variety, as measured by the number of hypersensitive lesions, was more affected by blast isolate than by predisposition temperature.

  • The interaction effects of ozone $(O_3)$ and anthracnose (Colletotrichum acutatum) disease were examined in green fruits and seedlings of pepper (Capsicum annuum). Pre-treatment with $(O_3)$ as a factor causing predisposition to the disease prior to infection was investigated in green fruits and stems using an $(O_3)$ concentration of 150 nL/L, which is easily reached in summer in Korea. $(O_3)$ treatment increased antioxidative responses in pepper foliar tissues, and defense against anthracnose was examined in fruits and stems. Anthracnose severity on stems of the $O_3-treated$, ozone-sensitive 'Dabotop' cultivar was always lower than that on untreated plants, but the difference was not always significant (p=0.147). Significantly lower anthracnose severity was found on $O_3-treated$ green 'Dabotop' fruits as compared to untreated green fruits in three of eight replicate experiments. In contrast, hypersensitive responses in 03treated seedlings were significantly accelerated compared to those in untreated seedlings by about 7.8 h (p<0.001). This confirmed previous evidence of increased transcription of plant defense genes with $(O_3)$ treatment. $(O_3)$ treatment significantly decreased chlorophyll concentrations in the leaves in four replicate experiments (p<0.01). $(O_3)$ increased hypersensitive responses in the leaves of pepper seedlings, but this increase did not contribute to the control of anthracnose severity on fruits. Antioxidant reactions to $(O_3)$ were limited to chlorosis and changes in hypersensitive responses in leaves.

  • Background : Thyroid Transcription Factor-1(TTF-1) acts as a tissue specific transcription factor in the regulation of lung specific gene expression and as morphogenic protein during lung organogenesis. Currently, there is very little information on the cis-acting sequences and transcription factors that direct the TTF-1 gene expression. DNAse 1 hypersensitive (DH) sites represent a marker for active or potentially active chromatin and are likely to be especially important in gene regulation, being associated with many DNA sequences that regulate gene expression. It is clear that DH regions correlate with genetic regulatory loci and binding for sequence-specific DNA-binding proteins. Methods : We have used DH site assays to identify putative distal regulatory elements in H441 lung adenocarcinoma cells, which express the TTF-1 gene and HeLa cells. Results : There are four DH sites 5' of the TTF-1 gene. These sites are located at base pair approximately +150, -450, -800, and -1500 from the start of transcription. Conclusion : These data suggest that there may be at least one intragenic site and regulatory region 5' prime to the promotor region.
