Objectives: The purpose of this study is to identify the perceived symptoms of oral and temporomandibular joint disorders in adults and to analyze the factors affecting subjective symptoms of temporomandibular joint disorders. Methods: 249 adults over 20 years old who had subjective symptoms of temporomandibular joint disorders were surveyed and analyzed. Independent t-test and ANOVA test were used to examine the relationship between oral habits and temporomandibular joint disorder according to general characteristics. $Scheff{\acute{e}}$ test was used for post-hoc analysis. Multiple regression analysis was conducted to examine the factors affecting oral habits and temporomandibular joint disorder. Results: First, the factors affecting oral and habitual behaviors were married (p<0.05) and monthly income between 1 million~1.9 million won (p<0.001), higher temporomandibular joint disorder (p<0.01) And the degree of habit was increased. Second, the factors affecting temporomandibular joint disorder were increased in occupation (p<0.05) and the degree of oral habit (p<0.01). Conclusions: In conclusion, it was confirmed that oral habit influences temporomandibular joint disorder. Especially, it is suggested that prevention and promotion of temporomandibular joint disorder are needed to recognize the removal of oral habits.
Background: Recently, competency-based education has been reorganized in the dental hygiene curriculum. In education, non-cognitive factors are emphasized. Grit, the non-cognitive ability to persevere to achieve an individual's long-term goals, is emerging. This study aims to identify the degree of grit and core competencies in students and to investigate the relationship between them and the factors that affect these core competencies. Methods: This study was conducted using 350 dental hygiene students who were randomly assigned a structured questionnaire to complete. The final analysis included 321 students. The survey contents evaluated grit, core competencies, and general characteristics. The difference in the degree of grit and core competencies in conjunction with the general characteristics of the subjects was analyzed using the t-test/Mann Whitney U-test and the ANOVA/Kruskal-Wallis H test. Multiple regression analysis was then conducted to determine the factors affecting the core competencies of the subjects. Results: The difference of 'grit' according to general characteristics was statistically significant in 'major satisfaction', 'relationship', 'perceived academic achievement', 'grade point average (GPA)'. The difference in 'core competency' according to general characteristics was statistically significant in 'grade', 'department selection', 'major satisfaction', 'relationship', 'perceived academic achievement', 'GPA'. Among the sub-areas of 'grit', 'perseverance of effort' showed a high correlation with 'core competency' and was statistically significant. As a result of regression analysis, 'major satisfaction', 'perceived academic achievement' and 'grit' of dental hygiene students had a statistically significant influence on 'core competency'. Meanwhile, 'GPA' was not seen to be statistically significant in 'core competency'. Conclusion: Grit, a non-cognitive factor, had a statistically significant effect on core competency, while the effects on GPA, a cognitive factor, were not statistically significant. Among the sub-factors of grit, 'perseverance of effort' had a statistically significant effect on 'problem-solving competency' and 'academic competency', which are 'core competency' sub factors.
Background: The purpose of this study was to confirm the major motivation for and self-efficacy of career decisions among dental hygiene students and to analyze differences in career decision self-efficacy according to the major motivation. Methods: An online survey was conducted among 194 dental hygiene students. To investigate career decision self-efficacy, 18 questions were posed, including 5 questions on future planning, 4 questions on self-evaluation, 4 questions on job information collection, 3 questions on goal setting, and 2 questions on problem solving. The survey was conducted using a 5-point scale. Results: The motives for choosing a major were a high employment rate (68.6%), a desire to become a professional (36.1%), according to aptitude (27.8%), recommendations by others (26.3%), and according to grades (12.9%). The career decision self-efficacy of the study participants was in the order of self-evaluation factors (3.75 points), problem solving factors a (3.62 points), job information collection factors (3.59 points), future planning factors (3.46 points), goal setting factors (3.44 points) score was high. The career decision self-efficacy scores were higher when the major motivation was "because I want to become a professional" and "because I think I have an aptitude for it." Conclusion: It is necessary to give students who wish to major in dental hygiene an opportunity to consider whether they have an aptitude for it by providing information on not only major subjects but also the duties and roles of dental hygienists. In addition, it is necessary to develop a career education program to help dental hygiene students set their career goals.
Objectives : The purpose of the study is to investigate the relationship between self-leadership in clinical practice and stress in dental hygiene majoring students. Methods : Subjects were 250 dental hygiene majoring students in J area from March 20 to April 20, 2012. There were significant differences between practices, satisfaction, and self-expectations(p<0.001). The explanatory power of the model was 9%(p<0.05). The combination of self-leadership, activity, interpersonal factors were very important factors and the explanatory power of the model was 8%(p<0.001). Conclusions : Self-leadership is able to decrease stress. Self-leadership is very important in clinical practice in dental hygiene majoring students.
Economic factors are important in improving life satisfaction of disabled people. In addition, the impact of job satisfaction on life satisfaction has been verified. However, according to Herzberg's motivation-hygiene theory, hygiene factors such as wages only lowers dissatisfaction and does not directly affect job satisfaction. This study raises questions about Herzberg's theory and seeks to confirm through empirical analysis. Based on data from the 2017 Employment Panel Survey for the Disabled, this study seeks to answer analyzes whether hygiene factors proposed by Herzberg affect the job satisfaction of disabled people or not. Furthermore, this study proposes what regional policies are needed to enhance job satisfaction for the disabled. An analysis of structural equation model showed that hygiene factors such as working environment, interpersonal relationship and personal life directly affect the disabled worker's job satisfaction. In addition, through hierarchical linear model analysis, it was confirmed that local governments ought to provide education supports to the disabled workers in order to improve their job satisfactions.
Objectives : The purpose of this study was to examine the oral health promotion behavior in dental hygiene students and other major students Methods : Questionnaire survey was carried out targeting 222 dental hygiene students and other major students. The collected data was performed frequency & percentage, chi-square test and multiple regression analysis. Results : The oral health awareness is male and female all 'unhealthy' 39.3%, 39.4%. dental hygiene students and other major students 41.9%, 38.5%(p<0.05). Oral health promotion behavior results, dental hygiene student who is higher than the other major students certificate in oral health education 66.2%, regular dental check-up 81.1%, use of oral hygiene supplies 54.1%, brushing three times a day 79.1% (p<0.05). The affecting factors on the oral health promotion behavior of dental hygiene students were use of oral hygiene supplies, explained 20.8%(p<0.001). The affecting factors on the oral health promotion behavior the other major students were regular dental check-ups, explained 20.1%(p<0.001). Conclusions : To promote the oral health of university students oral health education should be provided. Importance of dental check-up, recommendation for the use of oral hygiene supplies, etc. The findings of this study were oral health education should be strengthened for them.
Objectives : The purpose of this study was to investigate influential factors for the use of oral hygiene supplies with a view to give the right directions for related oral health education. Methods : Subjects were recruited in dental clinics in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province. Questionnaire data were carried out from June 1 to August 31, 2012. Results : 1. The awareness towards oral hygiene supplies revealed a mean of $5.46{\pm}3.87$ out of 14 points. Familiarity with the oral hygiene supplies was $2.62{\pm}2.66$ and that of oral hygiene supplies was $2.63{\pm}1.48$. 2. A regression analysis showed that by selecting the use of oral hygiene supplies as a dependent variable and the model turned out to make an 8.1% prediction. Among the selected independent variables, familiarity with the use of oral hygiene supplies revealed a statistically significant influence on the use of oral hygiene supplies that was a dependent variable(p<0.000). Conclusions : Awareness of oral hygiene supplies didn't have a lot of impact on the use of the supplies. It is important to motivate learners to make use of oral hygiene supplies in case of oral health education.
Background: With increased interest in oral health, several efforts have been made to improve oral health conditions. To achieve this, needs for oral health must be precisely determined and accurately measured. Therefore, factors influencing both objective unmet dental needs, which were determined by experts, and perceived unmet dental needs, which were determined by patients, were examined in this study. Methods: Responses of 17,735 respondents aged greater than 19 years from the Korean National Health and Nutrition Survey collected using the fifth (2010~2012) rotation sample survey were analyzed. Based on the information collected from the survey and dental examination, we determined the associations between the independent (sex and socioeconomic level) and dependent variables using a chi-squared test. Moreover, ordinal logistic regression analyses on multiple categorical values were performed using perceived and objective dental needs as the dependent variables. Results: Generally, factors influencing both perceived and objective dental needs were similar. These included sex, household income, educational level, private insurance, and subjective oral health status. However, the high-income groups had lesser perceived and objective dental needs compared to the low-income groups. Furthermore, factors such as sex, educational level, and marital status had different influence on both needs. Conclusion: Generally, factors that affect perceived and objective dental needs were similar. To minimize unmet dental needs, factors influencing both perceived and objective dental needs should be examined for a broad dental insurance coverage, and efforts to prevent oral diseases are also required.
This study was carried out to find out the effect of food hygiene awareness on kitchen employees' performance in the banquet cuisine of five-star hotels in Seoul. 279 kitchen employees were asked to fill out the questionnaire, and the collected data were analyzed by SPSS package(version 11.0). First, results of analysis on food hygiene showed that there were four factors, each respectively named as, food security regulations, food storage, period of circulation of food, and food safekeeping. Second, after analyzing each item in whole according to each of the factors, the average degree of priority on food hygiene in general was 4.52. Results according to each of the elements showed that food security regulations(4.56) and period of circulation of food(4.55) were considered as a priority. After analyzing the difference between the degree of priority and degree of performance according to each of the factors, it was found out that the latter was significantly lower than the former in all factors. Third, after analyzing the difference of food hygiene priority in accordance with general characteristics, statistically significant difference was only shown in education(F=3.308, p<0.05) and class(F=4.418, p<0.01). Fourth, after analyzing the difference of food hygiene performance in accordance with general characteristics, the only significant difference was found in food security regulation of education(F=4.418, p<0.01) and food security regulation of class(F=3.859, p<0.01). Fifth, after analyzing the effect of cook's awareness of priority on food hygiene on the degree of performance, it was found out that the awareness of priority on food hygiene had a positive effect(+) on the degree of performance. Therefore, we can conclude that as kitchen employees recognize the priority on the food hygiene better, their degree of performance was higher.
