The use of both an Alpha Hydroxy Acid, Citric Acid, and a Skin Moisturizer, Glycereth-26, formulated into a hand dishwashing detergent have been shown to be synergistic in their effects on certain skin health parameters. Each ingredient was evaluated alone and together in a hand dishwashing detergent via a 9-week use test. Panelists washed dishes using the sponge method commonly used in Asian markets and a 1:7 dilution of the concentrated dish detergent. Panelist's hands were evaluated initially and at 3-week intervals for nine weeks. After nine weeks panelist's hands showed significant improvements in Moisture Absorption and Transepidermal Water Loss (TEWL). A synergistic effect on TEWL was found between the AHA and the Moisturizer. These effects, showing an improvement in the condition of the panelist's skin are impressive, particularly since they were observed from a dishwashing product that is highly diluted and at near neutral pH during the washing process.

This study was conducted to find out the co-operative effect of antioxidants (butyl hydroxy anisol, dibutyl hydroxy toluene, propyl gallate, dl-$\alpha$-tocopherol) and organic acid (citric acid, tartaric acid, succinic acid) on the stability of soybean oil by active oxygen method. The results obtained were summarized as follows: 1. When antioxidants and organic acid were used together, the antioxidants activity was more strong than antioxidants were used only. 2. The co-operative effect of citric acid for antioxydants was the strongest whereas succinic acid was the weakest. 3. The co-operative effect of phenolic antioxydants for organic acid was more strong than dl-$\alpha$-tocopherol.
Study of the effects of the methanolic extract of Tagetes patula roots on blood pressure led to the isolation of well known citric (1) and malic acid (7) as hypotensive, and pyridine hydrochloride (4) as hypertensive constituents of the plant along with a new constituent, 2-hydroxy, 5- hydroxymethyl furan (9). Citric acid and malic acid caused 71% and 43% fall in Mean Arterial Blood Pressure (MABP) of rats at the doses of 15 mg/kg and 30mg/kg respectively while pyridine hydrochloride produced 34% rise in the MABP of rats at the dose of 30mg/kg. $LD_{50}\;and\;LD_{100}$ of citric acid in mice have been determined as 545 mg/kg and 1000 mg/kg, respectively.
The ehtyl acetate-soluble acidic fractions from juice and cake of Rubrs coreanum fruit showed DPPH radical-scavenging activity. Each fraction was purified through silica gel adsorption column chromatography. The compounds in the ethyl acetate-soluble acidic fraction of juice were identified as 4-hydroxybenzoic acid, 4-hydroxy-3-methoxybenzoic acid, 3,4-dihydroxybenzoic acid, 3,4,5-trihydroxybenzoic acid, and 3,4-dihydroxycinnamic acid by GC-MS. The compounds in the ethyl acetate-soluble acidic fraction of cake were also identified as succinic acid, 3,4-dihydroxybenzoic acid, citric acid, 3,4,5,-trihydroxybenzoic acid, and 3,4-dihydroxycinnamic acid by GC-MS. Antioxidative activity of the identified compounds were evaluated by DPPH radical-scavenging assay and hydroxyl radical-scavenging activity assay.
Relative retarding or pro-oxidant effect of 0.02% BHT, 0.01% citric acid and 0.1 ppm $CuSO_4$$5H_2O$, on the peroxide value and the free fatty acid value development of two groups of edible soybean osils was studied. One group of the oils was stored in a dark place at $40{\pm}0.5^{\circ}C$, and the other group was irradiated 3 hours daily, with direct sunlight. The results of the study were as follow; 1. Peroxide value and free fatty acid value were, in general, more rapidly promoted in the case of the irradiated oils than in case of the oils stored in the dark place. 2. Peroxide value and free fatty acid value were rapidly increased in the case of the sample in addition to $CuSO_4$$5H_2O $ in both caies. 3. Synergistic effect of citric acid on BHT was strong pronounced in both cases.
Chemical components and physiological activities Bamboo (Phyllostachys bambusoides Starf) extracts obtained by burning, dry heating or extracting with water or 70% ethanol and were investigated. Contents of soluble solid and total phenolic compounds were highest in the ethanol extract. Contents of polyphenols such as catechin, chlorogenic acid, caffeic acid, 3-hydroxy benzoic acid and ferulic acid were determined. Free sugars consisted of galactose, glucose, fructose, and sucrose. Organic acids including citric, tartaric, malic, succinic, and acetic acid were present in the bamboo extracts. Antioxidant activities of dry heat and ethanol extracts were higher than those of BHA or ${\delta}-tocopherol$. Nitrite- scavenging effect of extracts ranged from 84.7 to 99.6% at pH 1.2 ana 3.0. Tyrosinase-inhibitory activity was higher in the water extract, and SOD-like and ACE-inhibitory activity were highest in tile dry kent extract. Antimicrobial activities of the bamboo extracts were strong against Bacillus subtilis, Escherichia coli O157, and Staphylococcus aureus.
The effects of phenolic acids on inhibition of browning by the Maillard reaction were investigated with a glucose-glutamic acid model for doenjang with citric acid as the antibrowning agent and phenolic acid as its synergist. Five phenolic acids, cinnamic, coumaric, caffeic, hydroxybenzoic, and protocatechuic acids, were used. In order to investigate the antibrowning capacity, 0.1M glucose, 0.1M glutamic acid, 50mM citric acid, and 1mM phenolic acid were dissolved in 1M phosphate buffer (pH 7.0), heated at $50^{\circ}C$ for 24hr in the presence of 0.2mM $FeCl_{2}$, and stored at $4^{\circ}C$ or $30^{\circ}C$ for four weeks. Phenolic acid addition more efficiently inhibited browning during storage at $30^{\circ}C$ than at $4^{\circ}C$, without changes in pH. Hydroxybenzoic acid was the most efficient and increased the antibrowning capacity by 13% compared to sample without phenolic acids. Although caffeic and protocatechuic acids inhibited most the formation of 3-deoxyglucosone or fluorescence, they increased browning by forming colored complexes between two hydroxy groups of phenolic acids and iron ions. Hydroxybenzoic acid will be able to be a useful synergist of citric acid, an antibrowning agent in doenjang, since it is permitted for doenjang.
In order to promote the utilization of Rubus coreanum as functional food, and its physicochemical properties and volatile flavor were examined. The contents of chemical compounds showed 5.39% of moisture, 17.3% of total sugars, 8.6% of reducing sugars, 4.5% of crude ash, 3.9% of crude fiber, 10.6% of crude protein and 1.7% of crude fat and that of free sugars was 1.52% of sucrose, 3.98% of fructose, 1.24% of glucose. Among organic acid was 10.2% of citric acid, 6.29% of oxalic acid and 1.94% of malic acid. The highest component of free amino acids was 1,260.3mg of aspartic acid, 1,054.3mg of glutamic acid, respectively. And that of minerals was 38,789ppm of K. A total of 52 volatile flavor components (11 alcohols, 13 acids, 20 carbonyls, 5 hydrocabons, 3 esters) were identified in the Rubus coreanum, respectively. The major volatile flavor components of Rubus coreanum were 3.78% of linalool in alcohols, 14.40% of caproic acid in acids, 2.99% of 2-hydroxy-4-methoxyacetophenone in carbonyls, 1.59% of aromadendrene in hydrocabons and 0.43% of methyl palmitate in esters.
Ce-doped $Y_2$SiO$_{5}$ phosphor particles of spherical morphology, fine size, high crystallinity and high photoluminescence (PL) intensity were prepared by spray pyrolysis. When nitrate precursor solution is adopted, hollow particles were formed by uneven drying rate between surface and inside of droplet. Citric acid and ethylene glycol were introduced as polymeric precursor to control the morphology of particles. When polymeric solution is adopted, polymeric chain is formed by the esterification reaction between carboxyl and hydroxy groups of citric acid and ethylene glycol, and considered as controlling the drying characteristics of droplet. $Y_2$$SiO_{5}$ :Ce phosphor particles prepared from polymeric precursor solution were spherical, filled, fine size and not agglomerate before and after post heat treatment. The optimum doping concentration of cerium was 0.5 mol% of overall solution concentration. The optimum amount of TBOS of high PL intensity and pure crystallinity of X2-type $Y_2$$SiO _{5}$ was 105% of stoichiometric amount. The PL intensity of $Y_2$X$/_{5}$ :Ce phosphor particles prepared using the polymeric precursor solution was 164% of that of the nitrate precursor solution due to homogeneous composition and good morphology.y.
