The purpose of this study was evaluated on the applicability of Load Duration Curve Method (LDC Method) using HSPF watershed model and sampling data for efficient TMDLs in Korea. The LDC Method was used for assessment pollutant characteristics in watershed and water quality variation in each water flow level. Load Duration Curve is applied for judge the level of impaired water-body and can be estimated the impaired level by pollutant, such as BOD, T-N, and T-P in this study depending on variation of stream flow. As a result, BOD, T-P was usually exceed the standard value at low flow and dry hydrologic period. Improvement of effluent concentration from WWTP and riparian buffer protection zone are effective to improve the water quality. T-N showed the worst condition at mid-range hydrologic period and moist hydrologic period. Therefore, soil erosion control program and BMPs for non-point source pollution control is effective for recovery the water quality, which can be useful method for management of water quality in the plan of recovery water quality spontaneously. Applicability of LDC Method was evaluated in the Nakbon A watershed. However, we need to consider more detailed and accumulated data set such as accurate GIS data and detail pollution data, and WWTP discharge water quality data for accurate evaluation of watershed. Overall, The LDC Method is adequate for evaluation of watersheds characteristics, and its application is recommended for watershed management and TMDL Implementation.
The eco-hydrologic effects of maintenance water supply on Oncheon stream are studied using hydrologic, hydraulic and ecologic models. SWMM (Storm Water Management Model) is used for long-term simulation of runoff quantity and water quality from Oncheon stream watershed. Using the output hydrologic variables from SWMM, HEC-RAS (River Analysis System) is then used to simulate the hydraulics of water flow through Oncheon stream channels. Such hydrologic, hydraulic and water quality output variables from SWMM and HEC-RAS are served as input data to execute PHABSIM (Physical Habitat Simulation) for the purpose of predicting the micro-habitat conditions in rivers as a function of stream flow and the relative suitability of those conditions to aquatic life. It is observed from the PHABSIM results that the weighted usable area for target fishes has the maximum value at $2m^3/s$ of instream flow. However, mid and down stream areas that have concrete river bed and covered region are unsuitable for fish habitat regardless of instream flow increment. The simulation results indicate that the simple maintenance water supply is limited in its effect to improve the ecological environment in Oncheon stream. Therefore, it is imperative to improve water quality and to recover habitat conditions simultaneously.

We have investigated the properties of the Singular Spectrum Analysis (SSA) coupled with the Linear Recurrent Formula which made it possible to complement the parametric time series model. The SSA has been applied to extract the underlying properties of the principal component of hydrologic time series, which can often be identified as trends, seasonalities and other oscillatory series, or noise components. Generally, the prediction by the SSA method can be applied to hydrologic time series governed (may be approximately) by the linear recurrent formulae. This study has examined the forecasting ability of the SSA-LRF model. These methods were applied to monthly discharge and water surface level data. These models indicated that two of the time series have good abilities of forecasting, particularly showing promising results during the period of one year. Thus, the method presented in this study suggests a competitive methodology for the forecast of hydrologic time series.

Rainfall data is one of the most important data in hydrologic modeling. In this study, the impacts of spatial resolution of precipitation data on hydrological responses were assessed using SWAT in the Santa Fe River Basin, Florida. High correlations were found between the FAWN and NLDAS rainfall data, which are observed weather data and simulated weather data based on observed data, respectively. FAWN-based scenarios had higher maximum rainfall and more rainfall days and events compared to NLDAS-based scenarios. Downstream areas showed lower correlations between rainfall and peak discharge than upstream areas due to the characteristics of study site. All scenarios did not show significant differences in base flow, and showed less than 5% of differences in high flows among NLDAS-based scenarios. The impact of resolution will appear differently depending on the characteristics of the watershed and topography and the applied model, and thus, is a process that must be considered in advance in runoff simulation research. The study suggests that applying the research method to watersheds in Korea may yield more pronounced results, and highlights the importance of considering data resolution in hydrologic modeling.
Future runoff analysis is influenced by climate change scenarios and hydrologic model parameters, with uncertainties. In this study, the uncertainty of future runoff analysis according to the shared socioeconomic pathway (SSP) scenario and hydrologic model parameters was analyzed. Among the SSP scenarios, the SSP2-4.5 and SSP5-8.5 scenarios were used, and the soil and water assessment tool (SWAT) model was used as the hydrologic model. For the parameters of the SWAT model, a total of 11 parameter were optimized to the observed runoff data using SWAT-CUP. Then, uncertainty analysis of future estimated runoff compared to the observed runoff was performed using jensen-shannon divergence (JS-D), which can calculate the difference in distribution. As a result, uncertainty of future runoff was analyzed to be larger in SSP5-8.5 than in SSP2-4.5, and larger in the far future (2061-2100) than in the near future (2021-2060). In this study, the uncertainty of future runoff using future climate data according to the parameters of the hydrologic model is as follows. Uncertainty was greatly analyzed when parameters used observed runoff data in years with low flow rates compared to average years. In addition, the uncertainty of future runoff estimation was analyzed to be greater for the parameters of the period in which the change in runoff compared to the average year was greater.
The growth of water resources engineering associated with stable supply, management, development is essential to overcome the coming water deficit of our country. Large scale remote sensing and the analysis of sub-pixel variability of soil moisture fields are necessary in order to understand water cycle and to develop appropriate hydrologic model. The target resolution of coming Global monitoring of soil moisture field is about 10km which is not appropriate for the regional scale hydrologic model. Therefore, we need a downscaling scheme to generate hydrologic variables which are suitable for the regional hydrologic model. The results of the analysis of sub-pixel soil moisture variability show that the relationship between ancillary data and soil moisture fields shows there is very weak linear relationship. A downscaling scheme was developed using physically-based classification scheme and Neural Networks which are able to link the nonlinear relationship between ancillary data and soil moisture fields. The model is demonstrated by downscaling soil moisture fields from 4km to 0.2km resolution using remotely-sensed data from the Washita'92 experiment.
Among various input data to hydrologic models, rainfall measurements arguably have the most critical influence on the performance of hydrologic model. Traditionally, hydrologic models have relied on point gauge measurements to provide the area-averaged rainfall information. However, rainfall estimates from gauges become inadequate due to their poor representation of areal rainfall, especially in situations with sparse gauge network. Alternatively, radar that covers much larger areas has become an attractive instrument for providing area- averaged precipitation information. Despite of the limitation of the QPE(Quantitative Precipitation Estimation) using radar, we can get the better information of spatial variability of rainfall fields. Also, rain-gauges give us the better quantitative information of rainfall field. Therefore, in this study, we developed improved methodologies tu estimate rainfall fields using an ordinary cokriging technique which optimally merges radar reflectivity data into rain-gauges data.
In this study, for the purpose of analyzing the characteristics of Korean hydrologic weather parameters, 9 hydrologic weather parameters data such as annual precipitation, annual rainy days, annual average relative humidity, annual average temperature, annual duration of sunshine, annual evaporation, annual duration of precipitation, annual snowy days and annual new snowy days are collected from 63 domestic meteorological stations that has the hydrologic weather parameters records more than 30 years. And the basic characteristics of hydrologic weather parameters through basic statistics, moving average and linear regression analysis are perceived. Also trend using the statistical methods like Hotelling-Pabst test and Mann-Kendall test about hydrologic weather parameters is analyzed. Through results of basic analysis, moving average and linear regression analysis it is shown that precipitation is concentrated in summer and deviation of precipitation for each season showed significant difference in accordance with Korean climate characteristics, besides the increase in annual precipitation and annual average temperature, annual average relative humidity and annual duration of sunshine reduction and annual rainy days is said to increase or decrease. The results of statistical analysis of trend are summarized as trend commonly appeared in annual average relative humidity and annual average temperature. and annual precipitation, annual rainy days and annual duration of sunshine showed different results according to area.

The temporal and spatial relationship of the weather elements such as rainfall and temperature is closely linked to the streamflow simulation, especially, to the flood forecasting problems. For the study area, Imjin river basin, which has the specific characteristics in geography with river cross operation between North and South Korea, the meteorological information in the northern area is totally deficiency, lead to the inaccuracy of streamflow estimation. In the paper, this problem is solved by using the combination of global (such as soil moisture content, land use) and local hydrologic components data such as weather data (precipitation, evapotranspiration, humidity, etc.) for the model-driven runoff (surface flow, lateral flow and groundwater flow) data in each subbasin. To compute the streamflow in Imjin river basin, this study is applied the hydrologic model SURR (Sejong Univ. Rainfall-Runoff) which is the continuous rainfall-runoff model used physical foundations, originally based on Storage Function Model (SFM) to simulate the intercourse of the soil properties, weather factors and flow value. The result indicates the spatial variation in the runoff response of the different subbasins influenced by the input data. The dependancy of runoff simulation accuracy depending on the qualities of input data and model parameters is suggested in this study. The southern region with the dense of gauges and the adequate data shows the good results of the simulated discharge. Eventually, the application of SURR model in Imjin riverbasin gives the accurate consequence in simulation, and become the subsequent runoff for prediction in the future process.
HEC-HMS model should be calibrated to be applied to these basins in Gangwon-do unlike the general basins. In the study, it is investigated whether the HEC-HMS model may be applied or not to Naerinchon basin where is the typical basin of Gangwon-do Additionally, the straightforword module of HEC-HMS for simulating the hydrologic characteristic of Gangwon-do basins well will be suggested by comparison of the numerical results with the observed data. The hydrologic results estimated by several modules such as Clark, SCS and Snyder methods in HEC-HMS model have been compared with the observed data for 1999~2000 storm events. It is concluded that Clark method are relatively applicable to the basins in Gangwon-do rather than the others methods. The parametric studies for HEC-HMS model should be studied further in order to apply to Gangwon-do basins more accurately.
