This study estimates the baseflow using the separation of daily streamflow hydrograph. For the separation of hydrograph, we used standard method. This method was presented by Institute of Hydrology in 1980. For the estimation of baseflow, we estimated the parameters of model using the relation of the catchment properties and the baseflow index. The baseflow is estimated by the results of the separation of daily streamflow hydrograph and is estimated 20.0%∼39.4%. Baseflow rates is high for larger catchments but low for smaller catchments. As the results of this study, there is no relation between rainfall and baseflow rates.
The synthetic unit hydrograph is developed and verified using Nash model and characteristic velocities considering geomorphological dispersion in this present study. Application watersheds are selected 5 subwatersheds of Bocheong basin. The mean and variance of hillslope and stream path length are estimated in each watershed with GIS. Characteristic velocities are calculated using estimated path lengths and moment characteristics of rainfall-runoff data. Characteristic velocities of random devised 7 ungauged watersheds are estimated through regional analysis of chracteristic velocities in guaged watershed. And Nash model parameters and IUH are derived using characteristic velocities and path length in the gauged and ungauged watershed. The result to compare of IUH about gauged watershed and random devised ungauged watershed in application watershed presents coherently hydrologic response characteristics that peak discharge is reduced and peak time is extended. In conclusion, Developed synthetic unit hydrograph in this study expects that it is useful method to estimate runoff discharge for managing of water pollution in ungauged watershed.
Recently some urban areas have been flooded due to heavy storm rainfalls. Though major causes of these floodings may be attributed to localized heavy rainfalls, other factors are related to urban flooding including deficiency of storm sewer network capacity, change of surface runoff due to covered open channels, and operational problems of storm drainage pump stations. In this study, hydrologic and hydraulic analysis of Sutak basin in Guri city were carried out to evaluate flooding problems occurred during the heavy storm in July, 2001. ArcView, a world most widely used GIS tool, was used to extract required data for the hydrologic analysis including basin characteristics data, concentration times, channel routing data, land use data, soil distribution data and SCS runoff curve number generation from digital maps. HEC-HMS, a GIS-based runoff simulation model, was successfully used to simulate the flood inflow hydrograph to Sutak pumping station.
A method is developed for the separation of the major base flow in a river hydrograph combining the numerical techniques and the empirical methods. The linearized Boussinesq equation and the storage function are used to obtain the base flow recession. The shape of base flow curve made by the recharge of the groundwater table aquifer resulting from rainfall in determined by the Singh and Stall's graphical method, and the continuous from for the curve is approximated by the multiple and polynomial regression. this procedure was successfully tested for the separation of base flow and the establishment of hydrograph in a natural watershed. It was found that the direct numerical method applied to the homogeneous linear second order ordinary differential equation system is not suited to obtain the recession curve, and the case that the loss is generated in the partially penetrating stream can not be solved by the method of this study.
Many studies using tracers have been conducted to understand a physical process in a system. Rain-on-snow could accelerate snowmelt processes, which influences the hydrological process in both temperate and polar regions. Hydrological and ecological conditions will be affected by the amount and timing of discharge reaching the bottom of a snowpack. The discharge consists of the rain-on-snow, pore water penetrating into the snowpack and natural meltwater. In this study, after a rain-on-snow experiment, we conducted an isotopic hydrograph separation to distinguish rainwater and pore water from meltwater. Using the isotopic data of snow and meltwater from Lee et al. (2010), two components were separated based on the assumption that rainwater and pore water are new water and natural meltwater is old water. After the second rain-on-snow experiment, the maximum contributions of rainwater and pore water reached up to 69% of the discharge and then decreased. During the study period, the measured total discharge was 4153 L and 40% (based on hydrogen isotope) of rainwater and pore water was calculated in the discharge, which is not consistent with what Lee et al. (2016) calculated using chemical separation (63%). This inconsistency can be explained by how an end-member was defined in both approaches. The contributions of artificial rainonsnow and pore water to melwater discharge range between the two methods. This study will suggest a mixing calculation from isotopic compositions of the Southern Ocean.
This paper is about the threshold discharge computation using GIUH(Geomorphoclimatic Instantaneous Unit Hydrograph) on ungauged small basin. GIUH is one of the possible approaches to predicting the hydrograph characteristics. This study is calculated the various ways which are hydrologic characteristics, bankfull flows, unit peak flows(the Clark, the Nakayasu and the S.C.S) as well as threshold runoffs on about $5km^2$ scale at Kyungbuk gampo in subbasin. We are estimated propriety that peak discharge calculated the GIUH from acquiring data by GIS(Geographic Information System) compared to observed peak discharge. And, the threshold discharge was calculated by NRCS(Natural Resources Conservation Service) for a flash flood standard rainfall.

This study attempted to improve the accuracy of streamflow and baseflow prediction of Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) by applying baselfow recession constants for each sub-watershed. This study set two different scenarios (S1 and S2) to evaluate the impact of application of baseflow recession constants for each sub-watershed on streamflow prediction. In S1, Only the baseflow recession constant obtained from the streamflow station located in the final outlet of study area was applied for whole sub-watersheds. In S2, baseflow recession constants obtained from six different streamflow stations were applied for each sub-watershed. Then, baseflow was separated form the measured streamflow data and the predicted streamflow of S1 and S2 using Web-based Hydrograph Analysis Tool (WHAT). The results showed Nash-Sutcliff efficiency (NSE) and $R^2$ of S2 were a little higher than these of S1 in both streamflow and baseflow prediction results. However, it is important that S2 reflected physical meaning of baseflow recess. Also, recession part of hydrograph in S2 was calibrated better than that of S1 compared to the measured hydrograph.

This study investigates the impact of event characteristics on runoff dynamics during extreme flood events observed in a $8.5km^2$ experimental watershed located in South Korea. The 37 most extreme flood events with event rainfall in excess of 50 mm were analysed using an event-based rainfall-runoff model; the Revitalised Flood Hydrograph (ReFH) routinely used for design flood estimation in the United Kingdom. The ReFH model was fitted to each event in turn, and links were investigated between each of the two model parameters controlling runoff production and response time, respectively, and event characteristics such as rainfall depth, duration, intensity and also antecedent soil moisture. The results show that the structure of the ReFH model can effectively accommodate any nonlinearity in runoff production, but that the linear unit hydrograph fails to adequately represent a reduction in watershed response time observed for the more extreme events. By linking the unit hydrograph shape directly to rainfall depth, the consequence of the observed nonlinearity in response time is to increase design peak flow by between 50% for a 10 year return period, and up to 80% when considering the probable maximum flood (PMF).
The determination of feasible design flood is the most important to control flood damage in river management. Concentration time and storage constant in the Clark unit hydrograph method mainly affects magnitude of peak flood and shape of hydrograph. Model parameters should be calibrated using observed discharge but due to deficiency of observed data the parameters have been adopted by empirical formula. This study is to suggest concentration time and storage constant based on the observed rainfall-runoff data at GongDo stage station in the Ansung river basin. To do this, five criteria have been suggested to compute root mean square error(RMSE) and residual of oserved value and computed one. Once concentration time and storage constant have been determined from three rainfall-runoff event selected at the station, the five criteria based on observed hydrograph and computed hydrograph by the Clark model have been computed to determine the value of concentration time and storage constant. A criteria has been proposed to determine concentration time and storage constant based on the results of the observed hydrograph and the Clark model. It has also been shown that an exponent value of concentration time-cumulative area curve should be determined based on the shape of watershed.

This paper is to present the determination of the optimal Joss rate parameters and urnt bydrographs from the observed single rainfall-runoff event using optimization models coupled with a stochastic technique for the global solution. Two kinds of the linear program models are formulated to derive the optimal unit hydrographs and loss rate parameters for gaged basins; one mimmizes the summation of the absolute residual between predlCted and observed runoff ordinates and the other, the maximum absolute residuaL Multistart algorithm which is one or stochastic techniques for the global optimum is adopted to perturb the parameters of the loss rate equations. Multistart efficiently searches the feasIble region to identify the global optimlUll for loss rate parameters, which yields the optimal loss rate parameters and unit hydrograph for Kostiakov's, Plulip's, and Horton's equation. The unique unit hydrograph ordinates for a gIven rainfall-runoff event iS exclusrvely obtained WIth $\Phi$ index, but unit hydrograph ordinates depend upon the parameters [or each loss rate equations. The parameters of Green-Ampt's are determined through a trial and error method. In this paper the single rainfall-nmoff event observed from a watershed is considered to test the proposed method. The optimal unit hydrograph herein found has smaller deviations than the ones reported previously by other researchers.
