Hydrogen has long been recognized as a fuel having some unique and highly desirable properties, for application as a fuel in engines. Hydrogen has some remarkably high values of the key properties for transport processes, such as kinematic viscosity, thermal conductivity and diffusion coefficient, in comparison to those of the other fuels. Such differences together with its extremely low density and low luminosity help to give hydrogen its unique diffusive and heat transfer characteristics. The thermodynamic and heat transfer characteristics of hydrogen tend to produce high compression temperatures that contribute to improvements in engine efficiency and lean mixture operation.

Commercial production line of FCEV was built in 2013 by Hyundai and followed by Toyota in 2014, with additional manufacturers planning to enter the market around 2017. Now there is limited hydrogen infrastructure over the world, but more hydrogen stations are planned, particularly in Japan, Korea, Germany, UK and USA. ISO TC 197 which was created in 1990 focused standardization in the field of systems and devices for the production, storage, transport, measurement and use of hydrogen. Total number of published ISO standards related to the TC and its SCs (number includes updates) is 17. Now there are 20 participating countries and 13 observing countries. The current status of activity of ISO TC197 was reviewed and particularly issues on hydrogen quality and hydrogen refueling station were discussed.
Polymer electrolyte membranes (PEMs) are key components to determine electrochemical fuel cell performances, in addition to electrode materials. The PEMs need to satisfy selective transport behaviors to small molecules including gases and protons; the PEMs have to transport protons as fast as possible, while they should act as hydrogen barriers, since the permeated gas induces the thermal degradation of cathode catalyst, resulting in rapid electrochemical reduction. To date, limited tools have been used to measure how fast hydrogen gas permeates through PEMs (e.g., Constant volume/variable Pressure (time-lag) method). However, most of the measurements are conducted under vacuum where PEMs are fully dried. Otherwise, the obtained hydrogen permeance is easily changeable, which causes the measurement errors to be large. In this study, hydrogen permeation properties through Nafion212 used as a standard PEM are evaluated using an in-situ measurement system in which both temperature and humidity are controlled at the same time.
With the steady depletion off fossil fuel reserves, hydrogen based energy sources become increasingly attractive. Therefore hydrogen production or separation technologies, such as Bas separation membrane based on adsorption technology, have received enormous attention in the industrial and academic fields. In this study, the transport mechanisms of the MTES (methyltriethoxysilane) templating silica/a-alumina composite membrane were evaluated by using unary, binary and quaternary hydrogen gas mixtures permeation experiments at unsteady- and steady-states. Since the permeation flux in the MTES membrane, through the experimental and theoretical study, was affected by molecular sieving effects as well as surface diffusion properties, the kinetic and equilibrium separation should be considered simultaneously in the membrane according to molecular properties. In order to depict the transient multi-component permeation on the templating silica membrane, the GMS (generalized Maxwell-Stefan) and DGM (dust Bas model) were adapted to unsteady-state material balance
Hydrogen has some remarkably high values of the key properties for transport processes, such as kinematic viscosity, thermal conductivity and diffusion coefficient. Hydrogen, as an energy medium, has some distinct benefits for its high efficiency and convenience in storage, transportation and conversion. Hydrogen has much wider limits of flammability in air than methane, propane or gasoline and the minimum ignition energy is about an order of magnitude lower than for other combustibles. Statistical thermodynamics provides the relationships that we need in order to bridge this gap between the macro and the micro. Our most important application will involve the calculation of the thermodynamic properties of the ideal gas.

In the hope of realizing carbon neutrality, Korea has established the goal of expanding the supply of hydrogen electric vehicles through a roadmap to revitalize the hydrogen economy. A prerequisite for successful supply expansion is securing the safety of hydrogen electric vehicles. Certain parts, such as the hydrogen transport pipe and tank, in hydrogen electric vehicles are exposed to high-pressure hydrogen gas over long periods of time, so the hydrogen enters the grain boundary of material, resulting in a degradation of the parts referred to as hydrogen embrittlement. In addition, since the safety of parts utilizing hydrogen varies depending on the type of material used and its environmental characteristics, the necessity for the enactment of a hydrogen embrittlement regulation has emerged and is still being discussed as a Global Technical Regulation (GTR). In this paper, we analyze a hydrogen compatibility material evaluation method discussed in GTR and present a direction for the development of Korean-type hydrogen compatibility material evaluation methods.
To evaluate transport-induced cladding embrittlement after interim-dry storage, ring compression tests were carried out at room temperature(RT) and 135 ℃. The ring compression test specimens were prepared by simulating the interim-dry storage conditions that include four peak cladding temperatures of 250, 300, 350 and 400 ℃, two tensile hoop stresses of 80 and 100 MPa, two hydrogen contents of 250 and 500 wt.ppm-H and a cooling rate of 0.3 ℃/min. Radial hydride fractions of the ring specimens vary depending on those interim-dry storage conditions. The RT compression tests generated lower offset strains than the 135 ℃ ones. In addition, the RT and 135 ℃ compression tests indicate that a higher peak cladding temperature, a higher tensile hoop stress and the lower hydrogen content generated a lower offset strain. Based on the embrittlement criterion of 2.0% offset strain, an allowable peak temperature during the interim-dry storage may be proposed to be less than 350 ℃ under the tensile hoop stress of 80 MPa at the terminal cool-down temperature of 135 ℃.
The bilayer organic light-emitting diode using Al (DBM) $_3$ (DBM=Dibenzoylmethane) as an emitting material and poly (N-vinylcarbazole) (PVK) as hole-transport material, emitted bright blue-green light instead of blue light. The blue-green emission is attributed to exciplex formation at the solid interface between Al (DBM) $_3$ and the hole-transport material. The exciplex formation was evidenced by the measurement of the photoluminescence spectra and lifetimes of Al (DBM) $_3$, PVK and an equimolar amount of mixture of Al (DBM) $_3$ and PVK.
