  • The permalloy soft magnet was produced by powder injection molding process. Rheological characteristics of mixtures, debinding conditions and the magnetic properties of permalloy after sintering ware investigated. The permalloy soft magnet with a permeability of 14200 could be obtained by preparing a mixture with a powder loading of 65.4 vol.% and PP/PEG binder system, solvent extraction, thermal debinding and subsequent sintering at 1350 $^{\circ}C$ in hydrogen. The permalloy soft magnet sintered in hydrogen showed a 95 % of theoretical density and a magnetic induction of 13.2 kG at the applied magnetic field of 50 Oe

  • In the present study, investigations were carried out to obtain data on combustion characteristics of methane gas and hydrogen supplemented methane gas in a constant volume combustion chamber. The main results obtained from the study can be summarized as follows. The maximum combustion pressure increases as the initial pressure and hydrogen supplement rate increase, the total burning time is shorten by lowering the initial pressure and by increasing the hydrogen supplement rate. The maximum flame temperature and NO concentration increase by the initial pressure and hydrogen supplement rate increase. The flame propagation processes in near stoichiometric mixture are propagated with a spherical shape, but in excess rich or lean mixtures are propagated with a elliptical shape. And, they are changed an unstable elliptical shape flame with very regular cells by increasing the hydrogen supplement rate.

GOTHIC-3D APPLICABILITY TO HYDROGEN COMBUSTION ANALYSIS

  • Severe accidents in nuclear power plants can cause hydrogen-generating chemical reactions, which create the danger of hydrogen combustion and thus threaten containment integrity. For containment analyses, a three-dimensional mechanistic code, GOTHIC-3D has been applied near source compartments to predict whether or not highly reactive gas mixtures can form during an accident with the hydrogen mitigation system working. To assess the code applicability to hydrogen combustion analysis, this paper presents the numerical calculation results of GOTHIC-3D for various hydrogen combustion experiments, including FLAME, LSVCTF, and SNU-2D. In this study, a technical base for the modeling oflarge- and small-scale facilities was introduced through sensitivity studies on cell size and bum modeling parameters. Use of a turbulent bum option of the eddy dissipation concept enabled scale-free applications. Lowering the bum parameter values for the flame thickness and the bum temperature limit resulted in a larger flame velocity. When applied to hydrogen combustion analysis, this study revealed that the GOTHIC-3D code is generally able to predict the combustion phenomena with its default bum modeling parameters for large-scale facilities. However, the code needs further modifications of its bum modeling parameters to be applied to either small-scale facilities or extremely fast transients.

  • [ $Zn(BH_4)_2$ ] ($8.4\;wt\%$ theoretical hydrogen storage capacity) powders have been successfully synthesized by mechanochemical reaction from mixtures of $ZnCl_2$ and $NaBH_4$ powders in a 1:2 molar ratio in different times. $$ZnCl_2\;+\;2NaBH_4\rightarrow\;Zn(BH_4)_2\;+\;2NaCl\;(1)$$ $Zn(BH_4)_2$ powders were characterized by X-ray diffractometry(XRD), and Furier Transform Infrared spectrometry(FT-IR). The thermal stabilities of $Zn(BH_4)_2$ powders were studied by Differential scanning calorimetry(DSC), Thermogravimetry analysis(TGA), and Mass spectrometry(MS). $Zn(BH_4)_2$ can be tested for hydrogen evolution without further purification. The reaction to yield hydrogen is irreversible, the other products being compounds of Zn, and borane. $Zn(BH_4)_2$ thermally decomposes to release borane and hydrogen gas between about 85 and $150^{\circ}C$.

  • New software was developed for the assignment of elemental formulae based on high-resolution mass spectra and subsequent hydrogen/deuterium exchange data. Entire peaks in high-resolution mass spectra were grouped by their Kendrick mass defect values, and the weighted RMS deviations between theoretical and experimental values were used to determine elemental formulae. After this initial assignment, formulae containing deuterium atoms were sorted in order to interpret hydrogen/deuterium exchange spectra. The software was successfully applied to hydrogen/deuterium exchange spectra of resins and aromatic fractions from heavy crude oil.

  • 본 연구에서는 pH 변화에 따른 poly(2-ethyl-2-oxazoline)[PEOx]과 poly(acrylic acid)[PAA]의 수소결합 특성을 고찰하였다. PEOx와 PAA는 산성 조건(pH 4.3이하)하에서 PAA의 수소와 PEOx의 산소간에 수소결합으로 안정한 복합체를 형성하여 침전하였다. PEOx와 PAA 혼합용액을 수성이상계에 적용하기 위한 최적 반응비는 질량비 1:1.5이었고, 이 고분자 혼합용액은 수소결합을 제거한 상태에서 dextran용액과 수성이상계를 형성하였다.

  • The hydrogenation behavior of $Mg_2Ni$ powder prepared by ball milling has been studied. Ball milled $Mg_2Ni$ was transformed to an amorphous-like state after 200hr ballmilling, and crystallized to $Mg_2NiH_x$ by hydrogenation at got. The hydrogen storage capacity gradually increased as a function of ball milling time. $Mg_2Ni$ by 400hr ballmilling shows higher hydrogen storage capacity (3H/M) than $Mg_2Ni$ by VIM(Vacuum Induction Melting).

  • The modified statistical-mechanical theory for dense fluid mixtures of rigid spheres has been applied to rigid sphere fluids in the nonoverlapping pore model. The resulting expressions for the partition coefficient and diffusivity illustrate the influence of steric hindrance on the thermodynamic and transport properties in such systems. The open membrane model without the size-exclusion and shielding effects shows considerable overestimation of the diffusion flux when the effective mean pore radii of the order of $20{\AA}$ or less are involved. Theoretical predictions investigated here were also compared with experimental data for hydrogen gases in inorganic porous membranes and it was observed a qualitative agreement in the low pressure limit.

  • Magnetic properties of nanostructured materials are affected by the microstructures such as grain size (or particle size), internal strain and crystal structure. Thus, it is necessary to study the synthesis of nanostructured materials to make significant improvements in their magnetic properties. In this study, nanostructured Fe-20at.%Co and Fe-50at.%Co alloy powders were prepared by hydrogen reduction from the two oxide powder mixtures, $Fe_2O_3$ and $Co_3O_4$. Furthermore, the effect of microstructure on the magnetic properties of hydrogen reduced Fe-Co alloy powders was examined using XRD, SEM, TEM, and VSM.

  • Enthalpies of solution of aniline, pyridine and benzylamine in iso-dielectric mixtures of methanol with acetonitrile (AN), nitrobenzene (NB) and nitromethane (NM) have been measured calorimetrically. The solute-solvent interaction was analyzed using a model developed by Waghorne et al. and found that the relatively weak base, aniline, tended to behave anomalously, especially in the NB and NM binary systems by forming bidentate hydrogen bonds between the two-$NH_2$ hydrogens and the two-$NO_2$ oxygens. Pyridine and benzylamine were found to be preferentially solvated by methanol in all the binary mixtures.
