농도성층화와 Cooled EGR이 DME HCCI 엔진의 운전영역에 미치는 영향에 관한 수치해석 (An Investigation of Effects of Fuel Stratification and Cooled EGR on DME HCCI Engine's Operating Ranges by Numerical Analysis)

  • Homogeneous charge compression ignition (HCCI) engines have the potential to provide both diesel-like efficiency and very low emissions of nitrogen oxide (NOx) and particulate matter(PM). However, several technical issues still must be resolved before HCCI can see application. Among these, steep pressure-rise rate which leads to narrow operating range of HCCI engine continues to be a major issue. This work investigates the combination of two methods to mitigate the excessive pressure-rise rates at high power output, namely fuel stratification and Cooled exhaust-gas recirculation (Cooled EGR), after identifying the each effects to pressure-rise rate. When applying the fuel stratification to simulation, total fuelling width of 0.15 at BDC is set as a equivalent ratio difference based on the previous research. In order to simulate the effects of cooled EGR, $CO_2$ mole fraction in pre-mixture is changed ranging from 0 to 30%. DME which has a characteristic of two-stage ignition is used as a fuel.

고분자 전해질 막의 화학적 내구성 향상을 위한 고분자형 산화방지제 제조 및 특성 분석 (Preparation and Characterization of the Polymeric Antioxidant for Improving the Chemical Durability of Polymer Electrolyte Membranes)

  • Chemical durability issue in polymer electrolyte membranes has been a challenge for the commercialization of polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs). In this study, we proposed a manufacturing method of Nafion composite membrane containing a stable polyimide antioxidant to improve the chemical durability of the membrane. The thermal casting of the Nafion solution with poly (amic acid) induced polyimide reaction. We evaluated proton conductivity, oxidative stability with ex-situ Fenton's test, and fluoride ion emission to analyze the effect of polyimide antioxidants. We confirmed that incorporating the polyimide antioxidant improves the chemical durability of the Nafion membrane while maintaining inherent proton conductivity.

  • This study introduced a direct contact heat exchanger to enhance the efficiency of polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs) systems. According to previous research, 28% of the operating costs of fuel cell systems are attributed to heat exchanger devices, prompting the design of a direct contact heat exchanger to address this issue. Optimal configurations were determined through computational fluid dynamics analysis and experimental device fabrication, and the enhanced heat exchange performance of the heat exchanger was experimentally confirmed. Through this, the contribution of the direct contact heat exchanger to the heat management and efficiency enhancement of PEMFC systems was established.

Some Prophylactic Options to Mitigate Methane Emi ssion from Animal Agriculture in Japan

  • The abatement of methane emission from ruminants is an important global issue due to its contribution to greenhouse gas with carbon dioxide. Methane is generated in the rumen by methanogens (archaea) that utilize metabolic hydrogen ($H_2$) to reduce carbon dioxide, and is a significant electron sink in the rumen ecosystem. Therefore, the competition for hydrogen used for methanogenesis with alternative reductions of rumen microbes should be an effective option to reduce rumen methanogenesis. Some methanogens parasitically survive on the surface of ciliate protozoa, so that defaunation or decrease in protozoa number might contribute to abate methanogenesis. The most important issue for mitigation of rumen methanogenesis with manipulators is to secure safety for animals and their products and the environment. In this respect, prophylactic effects of probiotics, prebiotics and miscellaneous compounds to mitigate rumen methanogenesis have been developed instead of antibiotics, ionophores such as monensin, and lasalocid in Japan. Nitrate suppresses rumen methanogenesis by its reducing reaction in the rumen. However, excess intake of nitrate causes intoxication due to nitrite accumulation, which induces methemoglobinemia. The nitrite accumulation is attributed to a relatively higher rate of nitrate reduction to nitrite than nitrite to ammonia via nitroxyl and hydroxylamine. The in vitro and in vivo trials have been conducted to clarify the prophylactic effects of L-cysteine, some strains of lactic acid bacteria and yeast and/or ${\beta}$1-4 galactooligosaccharide on nitrate-nitrite intoxication and methanogenesis. The administration of nitrate with ${\beta}$1-4 galacto-oligosaccharide, Candida kefyr, and Lactococcus lactis subsp. lactis were suggested to possibly control rumen methanogenesis and prevent nitrite formation in the rumen. For prebiotics, nisin which is a bacteriocin produced by Lactococcus lactis subsp. lactis has been demonstrated to abate rumen methanogenesis in the same manner as monensin. A protein resistant anti-microbe (PRA) has been isolated from Lactobacillus plantarum as a manipulator to mitigate rumen methanogenesis. Recently, hydrogen peroxide was identified as a part of the manipulating effect of PRA on rumen methanogenesis. The suppressing effects of secondary metabolites from plants such as saponin and tannin on rumen methanogenesis have been examined. Especially, yucca schidigera extract, sarsaponin (steroidal glycosides), can suppress rumen methanogenesis thereby improving protein utilization efficiency. The cashew nutshell liquid (CNSL), or cashew shell oil, which is a natural resin found in the honeycomb structure of the cashew nutshell has been found to mitigate rumen methanogenesis. In an attempt to seek manipulators in the section on methane belching from ruminants, the arrangement of an inventory of mitigation technologies available for the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) and Joint Implementation (JI) in the Kyoto mechanism has been advancing to target ruminant livestock in Asian and Pacific regions.

하수슬러지 활성탄화로 개발 (Development of a Carbonization Activator)

  • 본 연구는 현재 크게 문제가 되고 있는 하수슬러지를 처리하고 흡착제로 재활용하기 위해 탄화와 수증기 활성화를 동시에 진행시켜 하수슬러지 흡착제를 제조하고 흡착특성을 파악하였다. 양질의 흡착제를 제조하기 위해 변수별 연구를 진행하였고, 그 결과 최적 탄화 수증기활성화 조건은 유입 탄화활성화 온도 $840^{\circ}C$, 수증기량 70 g/min, 탄화활성화 시간 30 min, 건조슬러지 주입량 10.8 kg/d로 결정되었다. 이때 요오드 흡착능은 328.1 mg/g으로 나타났다. nanoPOROSITY, FE-SEM, EDS를 이용하여 각각의 세공 발달과 구조, 원소성분 및 함량을 확인하였다. 이를 통해 하수슬러지 흡착제의 경우 매립장 침출수 흡착제, VOCs 처리용 흡착제 등의 사용이 가능함을 확인할 수 있었다.

무인항공기용 150W급 연료전지 동력원 개발 및 실증 (Development and Demonstration of 150W Fuel Cell Propulsion System for Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV))

  • Long endurance is a key issue in the application of unmanned aerial vehicles. This study presents feasibility test results when fuel cell system as an alternative to the conventional engine is applied for the power of the UAV after the 150W fuel cell system is developed and packaged to the 1/4 scale super cub airplane. Fuel cell system is operated by dead-end method in the anode part and periodically purged to remove the water droplet in flow field during the operation. Oxygen in the air is supplied to the stack by the two air blowers. And fuel cell stack is water cooled by cooling circuit to dissipate the heat generated during the fuel cell operation. Weight balance is considered to integrate the stack and balance of plant (BOP) in package layout. In flight performance test, we demonstrated 4 times standalone take-off and landing. In the laboratory test simulating the flight condition to quantify the energy flow, the system is analyzed in detail. Sankey diagram shows that electric efficiency of the fuel cell system is 39.2%, heat loss 50.1%, parasitic loss 8.96%, and unreacted purged gas 1.67%, respectively compared to the total hydrogen input energy. Feasibility test results show that fuel cell system is high efficient and appropriate for the power of UAV.

전기화학적 물 분해 시스템에서 산소발생반응을 위한 Co와 Mo 기반 촉매의 최근 연구 동향 (Research on Co- and Mo-Based Catalysts for the Oxygen Evolution Reaction in Electrochemical Water Splitting System)

  • 급격한 온실가스 배출량 증가로 인해 지구 온난화가 심화되고 있다. 이로 인해 탄소중립의 필요성과 이행이 더욱 절실해졌다. 이를 위해 여러 가지 신재생에너지 중 수소에 대한 관심이 부각되고 있다. 수소는 지구 상에 풍부한 자원이며 무탄소 전원으로 친환경적이다. 궁극적으로 물의 전기분해에 의해 친환경 수소를 얻을 수 있다. 하지만 산소 발생 반응에 사용되는 촉매는 고가이며 희귀하고 촉매의 내구성에 문제가 있어 어려움을 겪고 있기 때문에 비귀금속 촉매의 개발이 필요하다. 본 총설에서는 최근 발표된 산소 발생 촉매 중 비귀금속 촉매인 Co와 Mo 기반의 촉매를 정리, 요약하여 소개하고 있다. 이를 통해 비귀금속 촉매의 활성과 내구성을 증가시키기 위한 촉매의 특성 설계를 이해하는 데 도움이 될 것이다.

불화수소 누출사고 비교를 통한 하역작업장의 안전성 향상방안에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Improvement of Safety of Unloading Site by Comparison of Hydrogen Fluoride Leakage Accident)

  • 본 연구는 불화 수소 탱크 컨테이너 하역장에서 불화수소 누출 시 누출량 및 확산 정도를 정량적으로 평가하여 동종사고의 재발을 방지하고 안전성 향상방안을 제시하는데 목적이 있다. 2012년 H사에서는 최대 저장량이 18 Ton인 탱크컨테이너에서 누출사고가 발생하여 인근 지역으로 8 Ton이 누출되었고, 그로인해 사회적 이슈가 되었다. 가우시안 플럼(Gaussian plume) 모델을 이용하여 계산한 결과 누출지점으로부터 반경 1,321m까지의 농도가 20ppm 이상으로 예측되었다. 2014년 R사에서 발생한 불화수소 누출사고에서는 누출량이 11.02kg으로 추정되었고, 그 중 2.9kg이 세정기로 회수되었다. 가우시안 플럼 모델을 사용하여 계산 한 결과, 누출 원으로 부터 20ppm 이상의 농도를 갖는 피해 범위가 반경 69m로 예상되었다. 위의 두 가지 사고를 비교 한 결과, 누출량은 약 987배 차이가 발생했고, 피해 지역은 19 배 이상 차이가 나는 것으로 나타났다. 따라서 보호구의 착용, 하역 장소의 밀폐 및 세정기 설치, 그리고 비상훈련을 실시하여 하역장에서 불화수소가 대량으로 누출되는 사고가 발생하지 않도록 관리해야 한다는 결론을 얻었다.

메탄 자열 개질기의 동적 거동 및 정상 특성에 관한 수치적 연구 (Numerical Analysis of dynamic behavior and steady state characteristics of methane autothernal reformer)

  • In this paper, numerical investigation has been carried out to study performance of methane autothermal reformer and dynamic behavior for light-off under various operating conditions. In order to simulate the given problems, numerical methods are incorporated using finite-volume method. In addition, porous medium approach is accepted because the catalytic phenomena occur in porous media. Also, start-up issue is significant in autothermal reformer although the reaction is marginally exothermic. Thus, in this study transient behavior has been also investigated to find out optimal operating conditions for start-up.

디젤 자열개질기 내 탄소침적에 관한 연구 (Study on carbon deposition in diesel autothermal reformer)

  • Diesel autothermal reforming(ATR) is an effective method for hydrogen production. But, diesel ATR has several problems such as the sulfur poisoning of catalyst and carbon deposition during reforming reactor. Especially, carbon deposition is a severe problem, which causes rapid performance degradation, in the reforming reaction. Ethylene among the reformate gas is a carbon precursor. Effective decomposition of ethylene is an important issue. In this paper, we investigated the carbon deposition from ethylene in the reforming reaction for proper reaction condition of diesel ATR. We achieved relatively high performance of diesel ATR under $H_{2}O/C=0.8$, $O_{2}/C=3$ condition that was based on the experiment of ethylene reforming reaction.
