A method to determine As(V) ions in aqueous solution by chemiluminescence method has been studied using a stopped flow system. The method is based on the increased chemiluminescence intensity with the addition of As(V) ion to a solution of lucigenin and hydrogen peroxide. The effects of KOH concentration, $H_2O_2$ concentration and flow rate of reagents on the chemiluminescence intensity have been investigated. The calibration curve for As(V) was linear over the range from $1.0{\times}l0^{-6}$M to $1.0{\times}l0^{-4}$M, the coefficient of correlation was 0.997 and the detection limit was $3.3{\times}l0^{-7}$M under the optimal experimental conditions.
Intracellular pH was determined by distribution of 5.5-dimethyl-2,4-oxazolidlnedione [DMO]in the skeletal muscle of dogs before and after lactic acidosis induced by intravenous infusion of lactic acid solution. After infusion of lactic acid solution arterial pH decreased from 7.40 to around 7.12 [P<0.001]and metabolic acidosis was induced. However, dose-pH change response was not proportional as in the case of hydrochloric acid infusion. During lactic acidosis, intracellular pH changed very little except when venous blood $pCO_2$ increased significantly. The decrease of intracellular pH in lactic acidosis might be due primarily to the increase of intracellular $pCO_2$. And during lactic acidosis, change of extracellular pH was larger than that of intracellular pH, and this was also the case of change In hydrogen Ion concentration in extracellular and intracellular fluid. The fact was estimated that exogenous lactic acid transported into the cell does not contribute to pH change by the participation in the metabolism. Change in plasma potassium Ion concentration was not eminent as metabolic acid-base disturbances by other origin, and changing pattern of Hi/He ratio was not same as Ki/Ke ratio. In spite of no changes in extracellular potassium ion concentration after exogenous lactic acidosis total amount of potassium ion in extracellular fluid increased from 12.62mEg to 18.26mEg [P< 0.05].
The mash of Takjoo, Korean flour wine, is fermented through two brewing processes ; the primary brewing process to saccharify and the main one to produce ethyl alcohol. The activities of acid proteinase (pH3), weak acid proteinase (pH 6), and alkaline proteinase (Ph 80 on the processes are determined with time by the Folin phenol method as a strength of casein digestion. Hydrogen ion concentration, the content of total organic acids, protein, free amino acids and oligopeptides, which effect the activities of proteinase, are also measured. The results are briefly summarized as follows : 1. In general, the activities of acid proteinase and weak acid proteinase in the mesh of primary brewing process are stronger than those in main brewing process. 2. The activities of acid proteinase are remarkably stronger than those of weak acid proteinase in both processes. It reveals that they decrease slowly through the fermentation. Activities of alkaline proteinase are weaker than others. 3. As the raw materials are mixtured, the total amount of organic acids is equivalent to 0.150 mg/ml acetic acid in the mesh of primary brewing process and 0.02 mg/ml acetic acid in the main one. They increase gradually with time. 4. Hydrogen ion concnetration shows 3.9 in the mesh of main brewing process and 3.28 in the primary one. They increase to the maximum in 60-72 hrs., and decrease since 108 hrs. 5. The content of crude protein shows 66.90mg/ml in the mesh of main brewing process, while shows 64.29mg/ml in the mesh of primary one. they decrease slowly with time. it seems that a small content of crude protein, as a substrate, converts into amino acids and soluble nitrogen compounds by proteinase. 6. The content of free amino acids and oligopeptides shows 0.36 mg/ml in the mesh of primary brewing process and 0.24mg/ml in the main brewing process. It is evident that the reason they increase continuously through the fermentation is the effect of proteinase. 7. According to the results, the strong activities of proteinase in primary brewing process has been derived from the decrease of hydrogen ion concentration due to the production of organic acids.

Biofiltration of polluted gas streams contained $H_2S$ was studied. The experiments were performed in a laboratory-scale reactor with a porous ceramic media inoculated with sulfur oxidizing bacterium, TAS which was isolated from activiated sludge. The concentration of $H_2S$ in the inlet gas varied from 109 to 3,841 ppm, at the various space velocities(SV) of 50 $h^{-1}$ to 250 $h^{-1}$. Various tests have been conducted to evaluate the effects of such parameters as pH, concentration of sulfate ion and retention time on the pressure drop and maximum elimination capacity. The removal efficiency of $H_2S$ decreased as the $H_2S$ concentration or gas velocity increased in the inlet gas. Pressure drop was insignificant in this system. The maximum elimination capacity could reach up to 16.35g-S/kg-dry packing material/day.

A total of 23 springs distributed in the southern and northern sides of Mt. Hala in Jeju Island were seasonally sampled and analyzed for their major ion chemistry and oxygen and hydrogen isotope compositions to investigate their hydrogeochemical and isotopic characteristics. Dissolved ion concentrations of the south-side springs slightly increase with decreasing altitude. This indicates that dissolved ion concentrations of groundwater recharged at higher altitudes increase by water-rock interaction during the downgradient migration of groundwater through highly permeable volcanic aquifer. Dissolved ion concentrations of the north-side springs also slightly increase with decreasing altitude, but dramatically increase at ~300 m.a.s.l. This may indicate a sudden input of contaminants to the north-side groundwater system around ~300 m.a.s.l. Springs located in areas above ~300 m.a.s.l. have very low concentrations of dissolved ions, showing little seasonal variations. Whereas springs located in areas below ~300 m.a.s.l. show a big seasonal variation in the concentration of dissolved ions. Seasonal variation of oxygen isotope compositions of springs is ~3$\textperthousand$ for high-altitude springs (~1700 m.a.s.l.) and is ~2$\textperthousand$ near shore, indicating an attenuation of the variation through mixing with other groundwater bodies during migration.

A method to determine chromium(III) ion in aqueous solution by chemiluminescence method using a lucigenin entrapped silica sol-gel film has been studied. An optical probe for chromium(III) ion has been prepared by entrapping lucigenin into silica sol-gel film coated on a glass support by dip coating. The chromium(III) optical sensor is based on the catalytic effect of chromium(IIII) ion on the reaction between lucigenin and hydrogen peroxide in basic solutions. The effects of Nafion, DMF and Triton X-100 were investigated to find the optimum condition to minimize cracking and leaching from the probe. The effects of pH and concentrations of lucigenin and hydrogen peroxide on the chemiluminescence intensity were investigated. The chemiluminescence intensity was increased linearly with increasing chromium(III) concentration from $2.5{\times}10^{-4}$M to $8.0{\times}10^{-7}$M and the detection limit was $4.0{\times}10^{-7}$M.

Zinc selenide (ZnSe) nanoparticles were synthesized in aqueous solution using glutathione (GSH) as a ligand. The influence of the ligand content, reaction temperature, and hydroxyl ion concentration (pH) on the fabrication of the ZnSe particles was investigated. The optical properties of the synthesized ZnSe particles were characterized using various analytical techniques. The nanoparticles absorbed UV-vis light in the range of 350-400 nm, which is shorter than the absorption wavelength of bulk ZnSe particles (460 nm). The lowest ligand concentration for achieving good light absorption and emission properties was 0.6 mmol. The reaction temperature had an impact on the emission properties; photoluminescence spectroscopic analysis showed that the photo-discharge characteristics were greatly enhanced at high temperatures. These discharge characteristics were also affected by the hydroxyl ion concentration in solution; at pH 13, sound emission characteristics were observed, even at a low temperature of 25℃. The manufactured nanoparticles showed excellent light absorption and emission properties, suggesting the possibility of fabricating ZnSe QDs in aqueous solutions at low temperatures.
The environmental effects on radio-sensitivities of Lactobacillus and Saccharomyces cerevisiae were studied; Liquid suspensions of Lactobacillus and yeast were gamma-irradiated under various conditions; temperatures, hydrogen ion concentrations, amino acids and vitamins were treated seperately with variations of concentrations. (shown in figures) It is found that simultaneous heat treatment is effective to sterilize microorganisms than pre after treatment, and concentration of hydrogen ion does not affect the lethalty of yeast but or Lactobacilli was affect at the range of pH. 5.0 to 7.0. Ascorbic acid, thiamin and pyridoxine were protective dependently against lethal action of gamma-ray and its protective effects increase with the increasings of concentrations. Glutamic acid, aspartic acid, tyrosine and phenylalanine were proved to be protective for both strains at 0.1 between 1.0 percent. It can be suggested that industrial sterilizing doses of irradiation by gamma-ray for food should be applied more than those dose of saline or buffer suspension, because natural food stuffs are rich of vitamins and amino acids.
In order to ensure that all major cations and anions were accurately measured, the quality assurance checks of chemical analysis data by considering ion and conductivity balance of each precipitation sample were performed. To check the quality assurance of chemical analysis data, precipitation samples were collected by wet- only precipitation sampler at Seoul site and their chemical components were analyzed. By checking the problems for the screening methods of chemical analysis data used until recently, the f value expressed as the ratio of the sum of cations and anions equivalent concentration( $\Sigma $C/$\Sigma $A ) was found to be not ap priorate for data screening. Also, the scattering plot between cation and anion equivalent concentrations in each sample was found to show the general tendency of ion balance but was proved to not quantitate the standard of data screening at a set of samples of various concentration levels.4 more appropriate value was therefore required, h value is defined as (A-C)/C for C≥A and ( A-C)/A for C<4. This value was showed to check the ion balance in a viewpoint of quantitative as well as qualitative and to be useful in applying this expression to a measurement data set. However, the standard o( data screening must vary in response to the ion concentration of sample. In this study, the quality assurance of chemical analysis data was checked by considering both the ion balance evaluating by h value and the electrical conductivity. As these quality assurance checks were applied to Seoul data serf 67 valid samples were obtained. The result of statistical summary in the analytical parameter of precipitation samples collected for a certain period was found to be computed in the precipitation volume- weighted mean( VWM) rather than the arithmetic mean( AM), but PH In the VWM of hydrogen ion concentration. The annual VWM of pH values was 5.0(4.9 ∼ 5.1).
