Traditionally, Hanji had been made only with the bast fiber of paper mulberry (Broussonetia kazinoki). Nowadays, Hanji has been made mainly in the mixed forms of paper mulberry bast fiber and waste paper, and consequently it has raised many problems using them. This study was carried out to investigate the characteristics of Hanji mixed with paper mulberry bast part and whole stalk pulps. Hanjis made from the solfomethylated pulp were shown higher brightness and sheet strengths than those from alkali and alkali-hydrogen peroxide pulps. The brightness of solfomethylated pulp was found to be high enough not to need additional bleaching. The sheet formations were improved as the increase of whole stalk pulp contents, while the sheet strengths were decreased. In the physical properties of the Hanji mixed with bast part and whole stalk pulps, the handsheet strengths were decreased as the increase of the whole stalk pulp contents. The tensile strength and folding endurance of the Hanji containing 40∼60% of whole stalk pulps were higher as compared to the others.
Anatomical and chemical properties of three mulberry species (Morus spp) were analyzed as an alternative row material for the paper mulberry (Broussonetia kazinoki) . The pulping and papermaing characteristics of bast fiber and whole stalks by three different pulping processes, conventional alkali, alkali-hydrogen peroxide, and sulfomethylated, for the Hanji were investigated. The fiber dimension of M.bombycis was the biggest of the species. The fiber length of upper part and the fiber width and cell wall thickness of lower part were bigger than the others. The extractives and ash contents of bast fiber were higher than those of whole stalk , and holocellulose and lignin contents of whole stalk were higher than those of bast fiber. The pulp yields of M.alba bast fiber, M.bombycis whole stalk, and sufomethylated pulping were higher than the others.
Three kinds of papers were prepared from different beating degree of pulps. Physical and optical properties were examined to elucidate the deterioration mechanism of paper according to beating degrees. Changes of double folds, elongation, water retention value, DP, K/S value and visible, UV region light absorption spectra of those papers treated by UV light were studied. Double folds and brightness were decreased more rapidly by UV treatment with increasing of beating degree. The light absorption rates of pulps in visible and UV region were also increased with change of beating level. The formation of new hydrogen bonds and higher light absorption rate of pulps according to beating induced to absorb and interact with much UV light. These phenomena maybe brought about to accelerate paper deteriortion by UV treatment both optical and physical properties.
This study was performed to introduce recently developed Polyvinylamine as a wet-end process improving aids and paper properties improving aids. As a retention and drainage aids, cationicity of Polyvinylamine was a very important factor of BCTMP and ONP stock condition. As a dry tensile strength aids, The hydrogen bond of acrylamide functionality and hydroxyl functionality of the pulp was a very important factor of LBKP stock condition and cationicity of Polyvinylamine was a very important factor of BCTMP and ONP stock condition.
The efficiency of retention systems including compozil-G, hydrocol, compozil-S, and micropolymer under highly closed papermaking system was evaluated using contaminated white waters prepared in the laboratory. Compozil-G and compozil-S performed better in retention than hydrocol and micropolymer systems. This suggested that stronger hydrogen bonding between fiber and guar gum or starch was formed to give stronger flocculation and better retention. Especially compozil-G outperformed compozil-S in retention, and this indicated the presence of stronger interaction between guar and cellulose fibers probably due to their similarity in chemical structure. Two compozil retention systems decreased the cationic demand and COD more effectively than hydrocol and microparticle systems. In particular, compozil-G that uses guar gum was highly effective in decreasing anionic trashes at low dosage.
It is a quite quality concerning to control temperature of single crystalline growth as it does when you get most of heat treating products. It is also important factor to control temperature when you make the $A1_2O_3$(single crystalline) used to artificial jewels, glass of watches, heat resistant transparent glasses. Thus, it is a major interest to get the proper temperature in accordance with the time process while you are making mixture of oxygen and hydrogen to have the right temperature. In this paper, we will study of electrical valve positioning system for the gas mixture to improve the quality of products.
Dimethyldioxirane (DMD), which is a source of active oxygen, is effective agent that can be used in chemical pulp bleaching. In this study, delignification of kraft bagasse pulp has been carried out by using DMD. The effect of the applied charge of DMD (as active oxygen) and pH of the delignification medium were studied. The optimum conditions of the applied DMD charge and pH of the delignification reaction were achieved at pH range from 8~9, 2% of DMD (as active oxygen) and the rest of delignification reaction conditions were $25^{\circ}C$, 60 min, and 12% pulp consistency. The development of brightness per unit kappa number removal (ΔBrightness/ Δ Kappa number) has highest value at the optimum condition. The study showed that the reactivity of kraft bagasse pulp be enhanced to wards alkaline hydrogen peroxide bleaching by pulp treatment with DMD.
The catalytic effect of molybdovandophosphate heteropolyanion (HPAs) on the delignification of kraft bagasse pulp by hydrogen peroxide has been investigated. Very small amounts of the catalyst (0.05 0.3 mM/l) gave convenient results. Partial reduction of the catalyst was also studied. The effect of reaction medium (water, ethyl alcohol and acetone) on the bleaching was also studied. The results obtained show that the optimum condition for bleaching in presence of polyoxometalate were 0.05 mM/l catalyst concentration at $70^{\circ}C$ reaction temperature and $7\%$ consistency at pH 2 in aqueous medium. The ratio of water to solvent of 60:40 from acetone gives higher brightness than ethyl alcohol. The catalyst solution can be reused for 5 times without any reduction in brightness. ESR for the blank and exhausted solutions under different conditions was also carried out to find the relation between reduced metals and pulp brightness.
Effects of beating and water immersion time on fiber swelling and paper properties were elucidated for the fundamental study of producing high bulk paper. Chemical pulps were beaten for various freeness and the beaten pulp was immersed in water up to 24 hours. Fiber swelling was evaluated by measuring water retention value (WRV). It was found that fiber swelling, bulk and paper strength were quickly changed at the initial stage of beating. Immersion in water did not significantly increase WRV, paper density and strength, implying that soaking in water alone could not effectively swell fiber wall. In order to swell further, hydrogen bonds between fibrils in fiber wall and hence fiber wall structure shall be broken by mechanical force during beating.
