  • Soda-AQ pulp made from sugarcane bagasse (SCB) were bleached in element chlorine free (ECF) sequence. To reduce chlorine dioxide use, final peroxide bleaching was introduced. Prior to peroxide bleaching, different chelating chemicals were applied for comparative analysis in ISO brightness and viscosity. When using equal total chlorine dioxide usage (4.5%), bleached SCB pulp using chelate and hydrogen peroxide (DEDQP) was reached 86.8% (DTPA), 86.4% (EDTA) ISO brightness, whereas bleached pulp using only hydrogen peroxide (DEDP) reached at 81.2% ISO brightness. Viscosity of DEDQP bleached pulp was 25.6 cPs (DTPA), 25.2 cPs (EDTA), And DEDP bleached pulp was shown 18.0 cPs viscosity. Decreasing of transition metal by chelate process led to improvements in final brightness along with higher viscosity. Due to EDTA is 5-7 times cheaper than DTPA, EDTA is recommended as chelating chemical prior to peroxide bleaching.

  • There are accumulations of remained chemical additives and contaminants in the process water of semi-closed linerboard mill. High temperature of the process water aggravates the anaerobic digestion of contaminated process water and causes the generation of hazardous gases, which are from the biological reaction of varied additives and contaminants. The hydrogen sulfide in the gases easily combine with moisture in the air, and become sulfuric acid, which causes corrosion of paper machinery. This hydrogen sulfide is from the reduction of sulfate ions in the process water, and the sulfate ions are mostly from the alum. We changed the alum to PAC (Poly Aluminum Chloride). The results were preventing generation of hydrogen sulfide, and equivalent sizing effect by the use of PAC.

It investigated the proper bleaching conditions when rice-straw chemical pulps(alkaline sulfite-Na2S2O4 pulp) were bleached with the various kinds of bleaching agents. And physical properties of bleached pulps were tested. The results of this study were as follows; 1, The proper conditions of chlorine sequence were determined to be 4% concentration of chlorine 25$^{\circ}C$ of reaction temperature and 50 minutes of reaction time. 2. For calcium hypochlorite sequence the proper conditions of chemical concentration reac-tion temperature and reaction time were 3% 25$^{\circ}C$ and 20 minutes respectively. 3. For chlorine dioxide sequence the proper conditions were 1% concentration of chlorine dioxide 70$^{\circ}C$ of reaction temperature and 2hr. of reaction time. 4. The proper conditions of hydrogen peroxide sequence were 1.5% concentration of hydro-gen peroxide 70$^{\circ}C$ of reaction temperature and 1hr. of reaction time respectively. 5. When the rice-straw chemical pulp were bleached with four kinds of bleaching agents methioned above in the proper conditions respectively brightnesses were the order of chlorine dioxide calcium hypochlorite, chlorine, hydrogen peroxide. And strengthes of pulps bleached with chlorine dioxide and hydrogen peroxide were higher than those of pulps bleached with other bleaching agents.

  • The use of new and renewable energy is essential to solve the problem of increasing fossil fuel use due to industrial development. The paradigm of the automobile industry has changed due to the strengthening of environmental regulations in developed countries, and the development of eco-friendly cars is underway. Fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs), which use hydrogen as fuel, require strict standards for fuel-related components. In particular, check valves for FCEV control high-pressure hydrogen and thus, must be sufficiently strong for the challenging environment caused by high-pressure hydrogen. Therefore, this study used DEFORM 3D, a regular finite element analysis program, to check the moldability of check valves for FCEV, design the process, verify reliability through single streamline analysis, tensile tests, and ANSYS simulations, and identify suitable materials for the high-pressure hydrogen environment.

  • Hydrogen energy begins to grab the attention as a leading alternative to solve environmental pollution and energy issue. The preparation for the hydrogen energy age is at the primary stage. But it is expected that the utilization of hydrogen energy is a feasible objective through government policy and invigoration of studies in relevant fields of industry. The preparation and research are badly in need to equip a ship with hydrogen energy engine. Some researches on ship with fuel cell are in progress, however, considering a ship that has become larger and it is being operated in special circumstances, the researches on ship with hydrogen energy engine is keenly necessary. And more concerns and supports are required in this regard.

  • This treatment was applied to bleached softwood kraft pulp handsheets in an effort to improve physical strength of paper. Paper strength was improved by esterification of cellulose and polycarboxylic acid. Because hydrogen bond of carboxyl group is stronger than that of hydroxyl group, polycarboxylic acid forms stronger hydrogen bond than cellulose does. 1,2,3,4,-cyclopentanetetracarboxylic acid (CPTA) and sodium dihydrogen phosphate ($NaH_2O_4$) were used as polycarboxylic acid and catalyst, respectively This reaction was confirmed by the weight gain of the handsheets, by FTIR spectrum and by changes in mechanical properties of sheets. Wet tensile strength was improved when handsheets were treated with polycarboxylic acid. However, tear strength and burst strength decreased.

  • Paper has fibers and fines network structure and it is strongly affected by interface bonding between fibers. Depending on the inter-fiber bonding, paper bulk is determined. Fines play an important roll in Campbell and consolidation effect through wet pressing and drying operations. Refined Sw-BKP, Hw-BKP and BCTMP fines were used to investigate the fines effect. Wet-web strength, breaking length, scattering coefficient, and hydrodynamic specific volume were measured. According to the result of experiments, chemical and morphological compositions of fines do not strongly affect to wet-web forming, but strongly affect to drying operations which form hydrogen bonding among fiber-fines-fiber matrixes. Paper bulk should be controlled by the extent of hydrogen bonding between fibers during drying operations.
