  • In this study, it achieved life cycle assessment to estimate environmental performance for naphtha steam reforming that account for the production over 50% of total hydrogen output. Although hydrogen dosen't emit air emissions, especially, $CO_2$, a large of $CO_2$ is emitted in hydrogen production process. In the result of this study, it ascertained the truth that $CO_2$ is emitted at the rate of $6.3kg/kgH_2$ and that result from steam reforming reaction and use of fossil fuel in hydrogen manufacturing process. Above all, 57% of total $CO_2$ emissions is emitted in process of steam reforming of naphtha and so it knew that the principle of steam reforming is key issue in aspect to environment. Also, it compared hydrogen by fuel of fuel cell vehicle with gasoline fuel of general gasoline vehicle to analyze relative environment of hydrogen for fossil fuel during the life cycle. As the result, it might be difficult in improvement of environment because $CO_2$ emissions during the hydrogen manufacturing process is nearly the same with that during the use of gasoline.

  • SAE J2601, hydrogen fueling protocols, proposes two charging methods. The first is the table-based fueling protocol, and the second is the MC formula-based fueling protocol. Among them, MC formula-based fueling protocol calculates and supplies the target pressure and pressure ramp rate (PRR) using the pre-cooling temperature of the hydrogen and the physical parameters of the tank in the vehicle. The coefficient of the MC formula for deriving MC varies depending on the physical parameters of the tank in the vehicle. However, most studies use the MC coefficient derived from SAE J2601 as it is, despite the difference in the physical parameters of the tank applied to the study and the tank used to derive the MC coefficient from SAE J2601. In this study, the MC coefficient was derived by applying the hydrogen tank currently used, and the difference with the fueling performance using the MC coefficient proposed in SAE J2601 was verified. In addition, the difference was confirmed by comparing and analyzing the fueling performance of the table-based method currently used in hydrogen fueling stations and the MC formula-based method using MC coefficient derived in this study.

  • In response to the recent increase in demand for hydrogen stations, the Ministry of Trade and Industry has enacted and promulgated special notifications to enable the installation of hydrogen stations in the form of the combined complex in existing automotive fuel supply facilities such as LPG, CNG, and gas stations. Hydrogen multi energy filling stations haven't been operated yet in Korea till the establishment of special standards, so it is necessary create special standards by considering all Korean environmental characteristics such as four seasons and daily crossings. In this study, we collected and analyzed the charging data of Ulsan LPG-Hydrogen Multi Fueling Station installed for the first time in Korea. The data are hourly temperature and pressure data from compressors, storage vessels and dispensers. We used the data collected for a year, including the highest temperature and the lowest temperature in Ulsan to compare seasonal characteristics. As a result, it was found that the change of the outside temperature affects the initial temperature of the vehicle's container of the hydrogen car, which finally affects the charging time and the charging speed of the vehicle. There was no effect on vehicle containers because the limit temperature suggested by the Korean Hydrogen Station Standard(KGS FP217) and the US Filling Protocol(SAE J2601) was not exceeded.

  • In the present study, a numerical simulation for the diffusion of hydrogen leakage of FCV(Fuel Cell Vehicle) in a tunnel was performed to aid the assessment of risk in case of leakage accident. The temporal and spatial distributions of the hydrogen concentration around FCV are predicted from the present numerical analyses. Flammable region of 4-74% and explosive region of 18-59% hydrogen by volume was identified from the present results. Factors influencing the diffusion of the hydrogen jet were examined to evaluate the effectiveness of tunnel ventilation system for relieving the accumulation of the leaked hydrogen gas. The distribution of the concentration of the leaked hydrogen for various cases can be used as a database in various applications for the hydrogen safety.

  • In January 2019, the Korean government announced the 「Hydrogen Economy Activation Roadmap」 to be a world-class leading country in Hydrogen economy. Korea has established a strategy that can lead the hydrogen economy with its strong points of 'hydrogen car' and 'fuel cell'. As a part of that, a target of supplying hydrogen vehicle charging stations to 310 by 2022 and 1,200 by 2040 was established. In line with this, Korea Gas Safety Corporation will operate a pre-consulting system of hydrogen vehicle charging station in February 2021 to solve in advance construction delays due to various on-site problems according to safety standards during the construction stage to build a hydrogen refueling station with a sense of speed. This paper is to find out about the pre-consulting system and to analyze its effects.

  • In the hydrogen filling process, hydrogen flows by the pressure difference between the supply pressure at a filling station and a storage tank in the vehicle, and the flow rate depends on the pressure difference. Therefore, it is essential to consider the pressure drop of hydrogen occurring during the filling process, and the efficiency of the hydrogen filling process can be improved through its analysis. In this study, the pressure drop was analyzed for a hose, a nozzle/receptacle coupling, a pipe, and a valve in a filling line. The pressure drops through hose and pipe, the nozzle, receptacle coupling, and the valve were calculated by using a equation for a straight conduit, a flow nozzle formula, and a gas flow respectively. In addition, as a result of comprehensive analysis of the pressure drop effect occurring in each component, it was found that the factor that has the greatest influence on the pressure drop in the entire filling line is the pressure drop through the valve. This study can be used to develop a model of the hydrogen filling process by analyzing hydrogen flow including hydrogen filling in the future.

The temporal and spatial changes of the hydrogen concentration as well as the flammable region in the parking lot were predicted numerically. The effects of the leakage flow rate and an additional ventilation fan were investigated to evaluate the ventilation performance in the parking lot to relieve the accumulation of the leaked hydrogen gas. The present numerical analysis can provide useful information such as the distribution of the leaked hydrogen concentration for safety of various hydrogen applications.

  • This study analyzes the potential demand for automobiles based on fuel type using survey data in Korea. The dependent variable of the model is the future desired fuel type, including gasoline, diesel, hybrid, electricity, and hydrogen. The main explanatory variables are the respondent demographic characteristics, key reasons for choosing vehicle fuel type and environmental awareness extracted via principal component analysis (PCA). Using a multinomial logit (MNL) model, we find that respondents who consider fuel economy and infrastructure increase the demand for a hybrid car but decrease the demand for electric and hydrogen vehicles. The denial-types increase the demand for gasoline (petrol) and diesel (light oil), and decrease the demand for electric vehicles. The anxiety-types increase the demand of hybrid vehicles, and decrease the demand for electric vehicles. In contrast, in the case of pro-types, the demand for diesel (light oil) hydrogen vehicles decreased.
