저널베어링의 윤활상태 판별 기법에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Identification Method of Lubrication Characteristics for Journal Bearing)

  • A journal bearing is used in a hydrodynamic lubrication state, but it becomes a boundary lubrication state that asperity of a contact part touch each other when pressure is too high and an enough oil film is not formed by viscosity change due to lubricating oil temperature. At this time, abrasion due to contact between a journal and a bearing is unavoidable, and scuffing damage that the journal adheres to the bearing occurs if the process is repeated. Damage of the journal bearing is an important problem because it gives huge damage to a machine and can generate large accidents such as economic loss and human life damage. In this study, method for using the pull-up resistor concept was introduced as the monitoring technology. This monitoring system is important to enhance reliability of the engine.

  • In this paper hydrodynamic lubrication analysis is carried out to investigate the effects of groove location on the lubrication performance of a piston and cylinder system in a linear compressor. The rectangle shaped grooves having a constant groove depth and width are applied on the lubrication area of the piston. The Universal Reynolds equation is used to calculate the oil film pressure, and the Elrod algorithm with the finite different method is used to solve the governing equation. The JFO boundary condition is applied to predict cavitation regions. Transient analysis for different locations of the grooves on the piston is carried out using the typical operating condition of the linear compressor in order to estimate the variations of frictional power losses and minimum film thicknesses. When the grooves are applied on the lubrication area, both the frictional power loss and the minimum film thickness decrease. The frictional power loss can be reduced effectively, while maintaining a minimum film thickness to enable the piston operation without direct contact with the cylinder surface, by means of choosing a proper location of the grooves. The optimum location of the grooves to improve a lubrication performance depends on the operation condition or the system requirements specification.

  • It is well known that reduction of friction loss due to the valve train system greatly affects on improvement of fuel economy in internal combustion engine. In order to investigate friction characteristics of valve train system we carried out friction force measurement using test rig developed by ourselves. From test results, we concluded that characteristics of lubrication and friction torque on the valve train system such as mixed and hydrodynamic was mainly governed the contact type between cam and tappet.

  • The traditional approach is to characterize the behavior and performance of fluid film hydrodynamic journal bearings by means of linearized bearing analysis. The objective of this paper is to examine the nonlinear characteristics of the journal bearing when an external sinusoidal shock is given to the system. The oil film force is obtained by solving the finite width Reynolds equation at each time step by the solution of the column method. Frequency response functions obtained from both linear and nonlinear bearing simulations are compared with each other.

  • Surrface texturing of tribological application is another attractive technology of friction reducing. Also, reduction of friction is therefore considered to be a necessary requirement for improved efficiency of machine. In this paper attempts to investigate the effect of density for micro-scale dimple pattern using photolithography on bearing steel flat mated with pin-on-disk. We demonstrated the lubrication mechanism for a Stribeck curve, which has a relationship between the friction coefficient and a dimensionless parameter for lubrication condition. It is found that friction coefficient is depended on the density of surface pattern. It was thus verified that micro-scale dimple could affect the friction reduction considerably under mixed and hydrodynamic lubrication conditions from based on friction map. Lubrication condition regime has an influence on the friction coefficient induced the density of micro dimple.

내연기관 피스톤 링의 2차원 윤활 해석 (Two Dimensional Analysis for Lubrication of the Piston Ring of Internal Combustion Engine)

  • This paper considers two dimensional analysis for lubrication between the single piston ring and the cylinder liner. The piston ring is treated as a reciprocating, hydrodynamic bearing with combined sliding and squeeze motion. Reynolds' equation is used, to model lubrication with Reynolds' cavitation boundary condition. This analysis is developed to get the cyclic variation of minimum film thickness and viscous frictional force. Two types of piston ring face shape are considered. This result can be used to study the influence of ring shape design parameter to improve the characteristics of sealing and lubrication.

Improvement of Lubrication Characteristics in Fuel Injection Pump for Medium-Speed Diesel Engines: Part I - Application of Profile Shape

  • In this research, effects of profile changes of stem section of the plunger on the lubrication characteristics of a fuel injection pump (FIP) were evaluated by hydrodynamic lubrication analysis. The clearance between plunger and barrel was divided into two regions, head and stem. The head was not involved in preventing a decrease of fuel oil pressure. So, research efforts were focused on both edges of the plunger’s stem. The two -dimensional Reynolds equation was used to evaluate lubrication characteristics with variations in viscosity, clearance and profile for a laminar, incompressible, unsteady-state flow. Moreover, the equilibrium equation of moment and forces in the vertical and horizontal directions were used to determine the motion of the plunger. The equations were discretized using the finite difference method. Lubrication characteristics of the FIP were investigated by comparing the dimensionless minimum film thickness, or film parameter, which is the ratio of minimum film thickness to surface roughness. Through numerical analyses, we showed that the profile of the lower edge of the stem had no effect on lubrication characteristics, but the profile of the upper edge had a significant influence on lubrication characteristics. In addition, changes in the profile were more effective in improving lubrication characteristics under low viscosity conditions.

Transient EHL Analysis on Spur Gear Teeth with Consideration of Gear Kinematics

  • Transient 3-dimensional elasto-hydrodynamic lubrication (EHL) analysis is performed on the contacting teeth surfaces of involute spur gears. Kinematics of the gear and the pinion are taken into account to get accurate geometric clearance around the EHL region of the contacting teeth. The surface pressure and film thickness distribution for the whole contact faces in a lubricated condition at several time steps are obtained through the analysis. Besides the pressure spike at the outlet region, a representative phenomenon in EHL regime, the pressure at the inlet region is slightly higher than that of the center region. The film thickness of transient condition is thicker than that of steady condition.
