The electro-hydraulic training device (TP511) provided by Festo Didactic are widely used, but teaching materials do not include mathematical modeling. Thus, there is a limit for full-scale learning about the electro-hydraulic servo system by using this equipment. In this study, for the purpose of improving students' understanding of the classical control and modern control Festo's electro-hydraulic servo training device (TP511) was mathematically modeled and parameter values were calculated by examining the characteristics of each component. And P, PI, PD, and PID controllers highly used in the industrial field, were designed by using the root locus method to achieve the optimal gains and used for simulation and experiments using the Festo's electro-hydraulic servo training apparatus. The validity of the derived mathematical model and the calculated parameter values were verified through simulation and experiment. It was found that the p control can achieve the control target more effectively than the pid control for Festo's electro-hydraulic servo training system by using the root locus method.
Automatic power transmission systems consisted of a torque converter and several planetary gear sets, clutches and brakes are controlled by a hydraulic shift control circuit and an electronic transmission control unit. The hydraulic circuit serves for the operation of the torque converter and lubrication oil supply of the transmission system as well as for the actuation of clutches for the automatic gear shift. The complicated hydraulic control circuit constructed by many spools, solenoids, orifices and flow passages are integrated into one small valve block and it is powered by one hydraulic pump. In this paper, a test equipment was developed to measure the oil consumption of each component at various wide operating conditions. Test data about 730 sets acquired from five test items are analyzed and discussed on the oil capacity of the circuit.
This paper proposes a flywheel hybrid vehicle to solve the energy crisis problem by the exhaustion of a fossil fuel and air pollution for the conservation of environment. The proposed flywheel hybrid vehicle is composed of an accumulator and a flywheel as the energy generation and storage component and three variable displacement hydraulic pump/motors as the energy transfer devices. Flywheel has the characteristics of high energy density and easy energy absorption and consumption. The effectiveness of the energy-saving of the proposed flywheel hybrid vehicle is verified by simulation using Matlab/simulink. First of ail, analytical modeling for the flywheel hybrid vehicle is presented and simulations are performed based on the experimental efficiency data of a variable displacement pump/motor. The results of the simulation show that the effect of energy savings is realized by the proposed hybrid vehicle in 3 different city driving patterns.
In this paper, an oil hydraulic pipeline is terminated by both rotary sinusoidal flow generator at upstream oriffice at down stream. The pulsating pressure wave from generated by the rotary sinusoidal flow generator, is measured by using sensor. In the analysis of this paper, a component of the fundamental frequency is obtained by using Laplace transformation.. The experimental and analytical results make clear that (1) viscosity is significant role in hydraulic pipe. (2) When pulsating frequency is matched with the natural frequency, resonance frequency occured periodically. According to the study proposed here, dynamic pressure in a circular oil pipe is expressed in propagation of pressure wave with respect to frequency and Bessel function. The resonance at oil temperature $20^{\circ}$$0^{\circ}C$ in this study. The abrupt change of gain value is due to effect of resonance frequency. The results of experiment are compared with the calculated results, and agreement of both results is fairly good.
According to the recent increase of demands for multi-function and economics on hydraulic excavator, it is required that excavator should have simple operation, higher and operational efficiency, however the modeling of engine/pump system of excavator is not prescribed by the paper. So, in this paper the modeling of engine/pump system of excavator is suggested by identification method from step response and verified effectiveness of identification system by comparing with experimental results which was conducted using PID controller. To improve the problem of parameter variation and modeling error in the system, sliding mode control was introduced and new switching surface was designed. This control algorithm was applied to a hydraulic excavator by simulation, and its effectiveness was verified, and the results of variable structure system for the excavator system using a output component was compared with that of full state feedback when load disturbances and system paramenter variation exist.

The electro-rheological(ER) fluids for smart hydraulic system are a class of colloidal dispersion which exhibit large reversible Changes in their rheological behavior when they are subjected to external electrical fields. This paper presents experimental results on material properties of an ER fluids subjected to electrical fatigues. As a first step, ER fluid is made of methyl cellulose(MC) choosing 25% of particle weight-concentration. Following the construction of test mechanism for durability estimation, the dynamic yield shear stress and the current density for the ER fluids of MC component are experimentally distilled as a function of electric field. In addition, the surface roughness of the employed electrode are evaluated as a function of the number of the electric-field cycles.
Hydraulic transmission is the main component delivering power to the drive wheels of an excavator during forward and backward movement, and it has low speed, high torque and high speed, low torque gear change ratios as a forward/backward two-speed main function. It also has additional function of ensuring that the excavator is stably fixed on the ground with the built-in parking brake during excavation operations. In this study, optimal design specifications are determined by modeling and simulating about the multi-disc-type friction clutch, which is the main component improving the reliability of the hydraulic transmission for a 14-ton wheel excavator, and the friction properties of the transmission clutch are analyzed by performing sample tests.

This paper presents the parameter design method for the desired time response of hydraulic track motor system of an industrial excavator. The dynamic response depends upon many component parameters such as motor displacement, spring constant and various valve coefficients. Most of them are to be determined to obtain the desired response while some parameters are fixed, or discrete for the off-the-shelf type components. The parameters might be selected through repeated simulations of the system once the system is mathematically represented. This paper, however, presents optimization technique to select two parameters using a parameter optimization technique. The variational approach is applied to the system equations which are represented as state equations and from those system equations derived are the adjoint equations. The gradients for each parameter also are formed for the iterations.
As the functions and structure of the system are complicated and elaborated, various types of structures are emerging to increase reliability in order to cope with a system requiring higher reliability. Among these, standby systems with standby components for each major component are mainly used in aircraft or power plants requiring high reliability. In this study, we consider a standby system with a multi-functional standby component in which one standby component simultaneously performs the functions of several major components. The structure of a parallel system with multifunctional standby components can also be seen in real aircraft hydraulic pump systems and is very efficient in terms of weight, space, and cost as compared to a basic standby system. All components of the system have complete operation, complete failure, only two states, and the system has multiple states depending on the state of the component. At this time, the multi-functional standby component is assumed to be in a non-operating standby state (Cold Standby) when the main component fails. In addition, the failure rate of each part follows the Weibull distribution which can be expressed as increasing type, constant type, and decreasing type according to the shape parameter. If the Weibull distribution is used, it can be applied to various environments in a realistic manner compared to the exponential distribution that can be reflected only when the failure rate is constant. In this paper, Markov chain analysis method is applied to evaluate the reliability of multi-functional multi-state standby system. In order to verify the validity of the reliability, a graph was generated by applying arbitrary shape parameters and scale parameter values through Excel. In order to analyze the effect of multi-functional multi-state standby system using Weibull distribution, we compared the reliability based on the most basic parallel system and the standby system.
In this study, a new type of flow control valve which is SMA actuated flow control valve is presented. The flow control valve is actuated by a small motion of shape memory alloy. The performance of this valve as a position control component is analyzed by computer simulation. A variable structure control technique is applied for the position control by the flow control valve. The position control performance of the valve is evaluated on the step responses of a PID control by a electrohydraulic servo valve. For the simulation study, first, the mathematical model of a hydraulic system, which is consisted of the flow control valve and a hydraulic cylinder, is formulated. This mathematical model and the designed variable structure control algorithm are then combined by the MATLAB software. The same sequence of work is carried out for the PID position control system with a electrohydraulic servo valve. The simulation results show the validity of the new type of flow control valve as a variable position control component.
