Trajectory Control of Underwater Robot using Time Delay Control (시간지연제어기법을 이용한 수중로봇의 궤적 제어)

  • In this paper, the trajectory control problem of an underwater robot is addressed. From the viewpoint of control engineering, trajectory control of the underwater robot is not an easy task due to its nonlinear dynamics, which includes various hydraulic forces such as buoyancy forces and hydrodynamic damping, the difference between the centers of buoyancy and gravity, and disturbances from a tether cable. To solve such problems, we applied Time Delay Control to the underwater robot. This control law has a very simple structure not requiring the nonlinear plant dynamics, and was proven to be highly robust against disturbances and uncertainties. We confirmed its effectiveness through experiments.

Robust Wheel Slip Controller for Vehicle Stability Control

  • Vehicle stability control system can enhance the vehicle stability and handling in the emergency situations through the control of traction and braking forces at the individual wheels. To achieve the desired performance, the wheel slip controller manages the hydraulic braking system to generate the desired braking force at each wheel. In this study, we propose the wheel slip controller for the generation of the braking forces based on multiple sliding mode control theory with the pulse width modulation. The proposed controller follows to the slip ratio and the brake pressure the desired ones so that the vehicle stability controller can Intervene braking force at each wheel. We show the validity and usefulness of the proposed controller through computer simulations.

The Analysis of the Slope Stability in Embankment(I) (제체의 사면안정 해석(I))

  • The stability of an embankment Impounding a water reservoir is highly depend upon the location of seepage line with the embankment. To evaluate the accurate safety factor of an embankment, it is important to illustrate the seepage phenomenon. Of particular interest is the stability following a rapid change (drawdown) of reservoir level Seepage forces in embankments are easily determined if frictional forces are expressed in relation to hydraulic gradient Ⅰ. If a piezometer is inserted into a body of embankment, the level to which free water rises is a measure of the energy at that point. From model test result, it is possible to calculate safety factors of earth embankment. To assure the validity of this research, tests were conducted with numerical experimental models. And the experiment models were constructed with slopes of 1:1.0, 1:1.5, 1:2.0, 1:2.5. Analysis of experimental results, seepage force was analyzed according to downstream time, internal friction angle and cohesion, respectively.

  • In establishing a simulation program for hydraulic valves, it is always a big obstacle to incorporate correctly flow forces on valve body into the simulation program. This paper suggests a method to estimate flow forces on spool in proportional directional/flow control valves with spool structure. Furthermore, suggests a way to obtain simulation program for spool valves, in which flow force mechanism is fully reflected.

  • The article is focused in three areas. In the first part there are analyzed the adhesion forces at the liquid and solid surface interface. There are shown the measured values of surface energy for different types of surfaces. The value of surface energy is decisive for determining the extent of the surface wettability by the liquid. The second part points to the possible negative effects of partly wettable surfaces, showing susceptibility to cavitation. The third section describes the practical aspects of surface wettability by the liquid. Under the new boundary conditions bases, expressing the effect of adhesion forces, there are determined the centrifugal pump characteristics.

Development of a hydraulic power transmission system for the 3-point hitch of 50-kW narrow tractors

  • High performance small and mid-sized tractors are required for dryland and orchard operations. A power transmission system is the most important issue for the design of high performance tractors. Many operations, such as loading and lifting, use hydraulic power. In the present study, a hydraulic power transmission system for the 3-point hitch of a 50 kW narrow tractor was developed and its performance was evaluated. First, major components were designed based on target design parameters. Target operations were spraying, weeding, and transportation. Main design parameters were determined through mathematical calculation and computer simulation. The capacity of the hydraulic cylinder was calculated taking the lifting force required for the weight of the implements into consideration. Then, a prototype was fabricated. Major components were the lifting valve, hydraulic cylinder, and 3-point hitch. Finally, performance was evaluated through laboratory tests. Tests were conducted using load weights, lift arm sensor, and lift arm height from the ground. Test results showed that the lifting force was in the range of 23.5 - 29.4 kN. This force was greater than lifting forces of competing foreign tractors by 3.9 - 4.9 kN. These results satisfied the design target value of 20.6 kN, determined by survey of advanced foreign products. The prototype will be commercialized after revision based on various field tests. Improvement of reliability should be also achieved.

Water Holding Capacity and Hydraulic Conductivity According to Compaction and Saturation Degree for Perlite amended with Ground Coir (압밀과 포화수준에 따른 분쇄 Coir 혼합 펄라이트의 수분보유력과 수리전도도)

  • This investigation was performed to determine the hydraulic conductivity coefficient and water holding capacity for a specified compaction forces which are the amount of mechanical energy applied to the porous granule (PG) volume. Most current specifications of minerals and perlite as growth media require to be compacted to a specified density, which in general is equivalent to a certain percentage of laboratory compaction. The water holding capacity of the saturated PG was very large at potential above -1 bar compared with perlite, but very little water remained below this value. The water holding capacity and hydraulic conductivity characteristics of graded PG amended with the ground coir less than 2 mm in diameter were also determined from pressure outflow data. The saturated hydraulic conductivity of the saturated and compacted PG was slightly lower by more than one tenth order of magnitude at equal matric potentials of perlite, but when expressed on the basis of equal water deficits, the conductivity of PG was higher at all but the smallest deficits than those of perlite.

  • The nuclear power plant was launched by Kori unit 1 in 1978 years. Currently, 23 nuclear power plants have been operating in Korea since 1978 years. The localization was completed for most of the reactor facility from Hanbit(Youngkwang) unit 3&4. However, RCP(Reactor Coolant Pump) and MMIS(Man Machine Interface System) is an important technology that has been excluded from the scope of the technical transfer has been dependent on a specific overseas vendor. Recent success in RCP development through co-operation with government and industries. Developed RCP will be applied to Shin-Hanul unit 1&2 nuclear power plants. The RCP operates in high speed and high pressure condition and only rotating component in the NSSS(Nuclear Steam Supply System). Therefore, the problem of vibration has arisen caused by the hydraulic forces of the working fluid. These forces can influence on the stability characteristics for entire RCS(Reactor Coolant System) loop, and can act as significant destabilizing forces. In this study, vibration evaluation of the pump shaft of development RCP estimated under normal operation and over speed conditions. In order to predict the vibration characteristics and dynamic behavior, modal analysis, critical speed analysis and unbalance response spectrum analysis were performed.

Study on the Seepage Forces Acting on the Tunnel Face with the Consideration of Tunnel Advance Rate (터널 굴진율을 고려한 막장에서의 침투력에 관한 연구)

  • The stability of a tunnel face is one of the most important factors in tunnel excavation. Especially, if a tunnel is located under groundwater level, groundwater may flow into the tunnel face and seepage forces acting on the tunnel face due to groundwater flow may affect seriously the stability of the tunnel face. Therefore, the seepage pressure at the tunnel face should be considered fir the proper design and safe construction of a tunnel. In this paper, the effect of tunnel advance rate on the seepage forces acting on the tunnel face was studied. The finite element program to analyze the groundwater flow around a tunnel with the consideration of tunnel advance rate was developed. Using the program, the parametric study for the effect of the tunnel advance rate and hydraulic characteristics of the ground on the seepage forces acting on the tunnel face was made. From this study, it was concluded that the tunnel advance rate must betaken into consideration as an additional parameter to assess the seepage forces at the tunnel face and a rational design methodology fer the assessment of support pressures required for maintaining the stability of the tunnel face was suggested for undetwater tunnels.

  • A dynamic time-history analysis of the coupled internals and core in the vertical direction is performed as a part of the fuel assembly qualification program. To reflect the interaction between the fuel rods and grid cage, friction element is developed and is implemented. Also derived here is a method to calculate a hydraulic force on the reactor internals due to pipe break. Peak responses are obtained for the excitations induced from earthquake and pipe break. The dynamic responses such as fuel assembly axial forces and lift-off characteristics are investigated.
