Design of Hybrid System for Battery Charge·Discharge using Photovoltaic/Fuel cell (태양광/연료전지용 배터리 충·방전 하이브리드 시스템 설계)

  • Photovoltaic and fuel cell systems can be used as power source in mobile robots. At this time the photovoltaic system generally generate power in daytime. The starting time of fuel cell is slower than the lithium battery. To compensate for these disadvantages, a battery charge-discharge system is used. Especially the bi-directional converter is used mainly in the charge-discharge method. The controller in a buck converter controls the input voltage of the converter to meet the maximum power point tracking(MPPT) performance. First of all, the simulations of hybrid system for battery charge-discharge system in each step simulated using solar and fuel cell modeling as input source in PSIM. Experiment of the buck and bi-directional converter system is conducted through using photovoltaic/fuel cel simulator(pCube) instead of solar and fuel cell. This hybrid system for battery charge discharge using photovoltaic/fuel cell generates emergency power for the communication system in mobile robot.

  • This paper reports the performance of Wind-PV(Photovoltaic) hybrid system. The output power of PV is affected by the environmental factors such as solar radiation and cell temperature. Also, the output power of wind system is generated with wind power. Integration of Wind and PV resources, which are generally complementary, usually reduce the capacity of the battery. This paper includes discussion on system reliability, power quality and effects of the randomness of the wind and the solar radiation on system design.

  • In this paper, a hybrid photovoltaic fuel-cell generation system employing an electrolyzer for hydrogen generation and battery for storage purpose is designed and simulated. The system is applicable for remote areas or isolated DC loads. Control strategy has been considered to achieve permanent power supply to the load via the photovoltaic/battery or the fuel cell based on the power available from the sun. MATLAB and SIMULINK have been used for the simulation work. A sensitivity analysis is conducted for various load level based on availability of solar radiation.

  • The world population reaches to about 7.7 billion in 2018 from 6.2 billion in 2000. This much growth in population results in increased energy demand and increased food supply. As the conventional energy sources are limited. These may deplete soon if consumed at this rate. So, the world is switching towards the utilization of non-conventional sources of energy. Energy from sun is the best method as it can not only solve the energy issue but also helps in meeting food demand by conserving it. Greenhouses are made for the purpose of food conservation. Various types of solar dryers are developed by researchers till now and still the effort is being putted to make them more efficient. Hybrid greenhouse is also effort toward utilization of solar energy in more efficient way. The paper presents the heat and mass transfer analysis of hybrid greenhouse solar dryer developed by different researchers till now. The review helps the researcher in understanding the heat and mass transfer taking place inside the hybrid greenhouse and how it can be further improved.

  • Proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) is the most promising energy source for the robot applications because it has unique advantages such as high energy density, no power drop during operating, and easy to make compact size. However, PEMFC has intrinsic disadvantages which are delay to start up and difficulty to correspond drastic load changes. These disadvantages can be compensated by hybrid operating with a Li-poly battery. This study is focus to build and understand the hybrid system for the robot system. In this study, we build the PEMFC hybrid system using EOS-320 PEMFC stack, Li-poly battery and G-Philos FDX1-250BU dc-dc converter. The hybrid system is accurately monitored by CAN and RS485. The system was studied under two conditions such as non-loaded and loaded operating conditions. The results show that the system has delay to start up without hybrid operating and it can be compensated with the hybrid operating.

Coating Property of Hybrid Structured Photo-Electrode to Increase Dye-Sensitized Solar Cells Efficiency (염료감응형 태양전지의 효율 향상을 위한 하이브리드 구조 광전극의 코팅특성)

  • The hybrid structured photo-electrode for dye-sensitized solar cells was fabricated based on the composites of $TiO_2$ nanoparticles and nanowires. Three samples with different hybrid structures were prepared with 17 vol%, 43 vol%, and 100 vol% nanowires. The energy conversion efficiency was enhanced from 5.54% for pure nanoparticle cells to 6.01% for the hybrid structure with 17 vol% nanowires. For the hybrid structured layers with high nanowires concentration (43 vol% and 100 vol%), the efficiency decreased with the nanowire concentration, because of the decrease of specific surface area, and of thus decreased current density. The random orientations of $TiO_2$ nanowires can be preserved by the doctor blade process, resulted in the enhanced efficiency. The hybrid structured $TiO_2$ layer can possess the advantages of the high surface area of nanoparticles and the rapid electron transport rate and the light scattering effect of nanowires.

  • Organic semi-conductive materials have characteristics such as the advantages of easy formability, low-cost and diversity along with moderate semi-conductive properties. In this paper, we developed a flexible organic-inorganic hybrid solar cell fiber. First, we made a solar cell on the glass and attached the solar cell on the glass fiber similarly. In the latter case, thermal deposition method was employed in order to effectively apply ITO onto fiber surface. The amount of ITO was controlled by varying the temperature from 25, 150 to $300^{\circ}C$. Optimum result was obtained at $150^{\circ}C$ where maximize the deposition amount without significant decomposition of ITO. Despite of maximum open circuit voltage of 0.39V, the resulting current was quite unstable and weak, limiting realistic applications. It was, however, concluded that the flexible solar cell fiber developed showed a possibility of low-weight application from functional clothing for military to space suit mainly due to flexibility and thus wear ability.

  • As ideal new energy, solar cell has renewable and inexhaustible characteristics and the fuel cell only needs low maintenance and low operating cost. This paper introduces hybrid system of solar cell and fuel cell considering the advantages of stable and sustainable energy from the economic point of view. Then the paper shows the I-V characteristics of the solar module which are dependent on the power of the halogen lamp and the P-I and I-V characteristics of fuel cells which are connected in parallel and series.

  • This paper describes on hardware simulation of passive power control of propulsion system for electric propulsion aircraft of KARI. The propulsion system uses hybrid power system that is composed of solar cell, fuel cell and battery. The fuel cell is replaces by simulator due to its difficulty in handling while the other components are the same as that will be used on board. As the result, reliable power supply for propulsion is confirmed and each power source is well operated showing its characteristics.
