The hybrid composite materials with non-woven tissue (NWT) was developed to improve the mechanical properties of conventional FRP composite materials. The hybrid prepreg with NWT consists of FRP prepreg and NWT prepreg. The NWT prepreg consists of NWT and polymer resin. The NWT has short fibers, discretely distributed with in-plane random orientation fibers. The purposes of this study of hybrid prepreg with NWT are (i) to increase the interlaminar properties(the fracture toughness and strength), (ii) to improve the mechanical properties and reliability, while maintaining a low cost, (iii) to introduce a tough and strong interlayer at critical positions to be required of strength in the laminate. To accomplish the above purposes, a production technique to decrease voids in NWT layers was proposed in this paper. The interlaminar failure characteristics of laminated composite materials was tremendously improved by hybrid concept with NWT.
The smooth surface after polishing of composite resin contributes to the patient's comfort, and appearance and longevity of the restoration. This study was performed for the quantitative analysis of the effects of the various finishing and polishing instruments on the surface roughness and reflectivity of the microfill, and hybrid composite resins. Cylindrical specimens 2mm thick and 10mm in diameter of Silux Plus, Durafill VS ; Z100, Prisma TPH, Brilliant, and Herculite XR composite resin were polymerized under the matrix strip. 18 specimens for each composite resin materials were divided into 6 groups ; 5 experimental groups were abraded with # 600 sand paper to remove resin-rich layer, except control. Thereafter, using diamond bur(Mani Dia-Burs), carbide bur(E. T. carbide set 4159), rubber point(Composite polishing kit), aluminum-oxide disk(Sof-Lex disk), polishing paste(Enhance system) ; each specimen was polished to its best achievable surface according to manufacturer's directions. Final polished surfaces were evaluated for the surface roughness with profilometer(${\alpha}$-step 200, Tencor instruments, USA) and for the reflectivity with image analyser(Omniment Image Analyser, Buehler, USA). The results were as follows. 1. Polishing paste or aluminum-oxide disk finish in the microfill, and hybrid composite resins was as smooth as matrix strip finish on the surface roughness test. 2. Polishing paste or aluminum-oxide disk finish in the microfill ; polishing paste finish in the hybrid composite resins was as reflective as matrix strip finish on the refectivity test. 3. For the polishing paste, there were no significant differences between the composite resin materials on the surface roughness and refectivity tests. 4. For the aluminum-oxide disk, the best result was obtained with the microfill composite resin on the surface roughness and reflectivity test. 5. Diamond bur, carbide bur, and rubber point were inappropriate for the final polishing instruments.
Thermally or electrically conductive filler reinforced polymer composites are extensively being developed as the demand for light weight material increases rapidly in industiral applications need good conductivity such as heat sink of the electronics or light. Carbon or ceramic materials like graphite, carbon nanotube or boron nitride are typical conductive fillers with good thermal or electical conductivity. Using these conductive fillers, the polymer composites in the market show wide range of thermal conductivity from approximately 1 W/mK to 20 W/mK, which is quite enhanced considering the thermal conductivity lower than 0.5 W/mK for most polymeric materials. The practical use of these composites, however, is yet limited to specific applications because most composites are still not conductive enough or too difficult to process, too brittle, too expensive for higher conductivity. For practical use of conductive composite, the thermal conductivity required depending on the heat releasing mode are studied first for simplified unit cooling geometry to propose thermal conductivities of the composites for reasonable cooling performance comparing with the metal heat sink as a reference. Also, as a practical design for heat sink based on polymer composite, composite and metal sheet hybrid structures are investigated for LED lamp heat sink and audio amplication module housing to find that this hybrid structure can be a good solution considering all of the cooling performance, manufacturing, mechanical performance, cost and weight.

In various industry, the composite is tried to be applied to products and thermoplastic based composite is in the spotlight because this composite can be recycled. The use of continuous fiber thermoplastic (CFT) method increased gradually than long fiber thermoplastic (LFT). In this study, tensile, flexural, and impact test of different array types of glass fiber (GF)/thermoplastic composites were performed to compare with GF array. Impregnation property between GF mat and thermoplastic was determined using computed tomography (CT). At CFT method, thermoplastic film is not wet into GF roving and many voids are appeared into composite. This phenomenon affects to decrease mechanical properties. Plain pattern GF mat was the best mechanical and impregnation properties that distance between two roving was set closely to $100{\mu}m$.

The mechanical and thermal properties of PAN-based/rayon-based carbon fabrics interply hybrid composite materials have been studied. Mechanical properties including tensile and interlaminar shear strengths were improved with increasing amount of continuous PAN-based carbon fabrics. The erosion rate and insulation index were determined through the torch test. Continuous rayon-based carbon fabrics composite indicated relatively low ablation resistant property. The thermal conductivity of hybrid composite of spun PAN-based/continuous rayon-based carbon fabrics is lower than that of the continuous PAN-based carbon fabrics composite.
Environmental pollution from waste and the climate crisis, due to rising global average temperatures, are reaching critical levels threatening human survival. Research is ongoing across various fields to solve this problem, with a key focus on developing eco-friendly, carbon-neutral materials. Our study aimed to integrate natural fibers, known for their environmentally friendly properties and lower carbon emissions, with carbon fibers. In general, combining high-strength and low-strength materials results in intermediate properties. However, we found that certain properties in our study exceeded those of typical carbon fiber composite materials. To validate this, we produced both carbon fiber composite materials and carbon fiber/natural fiber hybrid composite materials. We then compared their mechanical properties using a range of specific tests. Our results revealed that the hybrid composite material exhibited superior bending strength and fracture toughness compared to the carbon fiber composite material. We also identified the underlying mechanisms contributing to this strength enhancement. This breakthrough suggests that the use of hybrid composite materials may allow the production of stronger structures. Moreover, this can play a significant role in mitigating environmental pollution and the climate crisis by reducing carbon emissions, a major contributing factor to these global challenges.
In resin infusion process(RIP), the fiber and the resin are in contact with each other for an impregnation step and often results in flow-induced defects such as poor fiber wetting and void formation. Resin flow characteristics in transverse direction and process modeling for woven fabric were studied, and the process modeling was applied to the manufacturing of hybrid composite materials. This study also considered the compressibility of woven fabrics in a series of compression force, and it was fitted well to an elastic model equation. Void formation was varied with the processing conditions in the stage of manufacturing composites using RIP. It was concluded from this study that proper combination of pressure build-up and dynamic heating condition makes important factor for flow-induced composite processing.
Recently, Application of composite materials are increased in transport area for weight reduction. Also, Related technical developments have been implemented actively at domestic and abroad. In particular, The carbon fiber has high strength and ultra light property higher than stainless steel, aluminum, GFRP as Eco-friendly material. Carbon fiber contribute to improving the environmental effect such as fuel saving, expansion of loadage, reducing the exhaustion of carbon dioxide through the weight reduction of transport area. In addition, The carbon fiber is applied to the ship in the area of race yacht, luxury cruise boat as weight reduction and high added-value materials, but there is limited application for general boat because price of carbon fiber is very expensive. For the weight reduction of general boat hull, being used as structure materials, glass fiber and carbon fiber are applied to hull with form of hybrid composite materials, but application of domestic and research for development are incomlete. In this study, An evaluations of mechanical strength property and fatigue strength are performed on composite materials by hybrid weaving of glass fiber and carbon fiber and composite materials forming method by hybrid forming.

The Fe-based self-fluxing alloy powders and TiC particles were ball-milled and subsequently compacted and sintered at various temperatures, resulting in the TiC particle-reinforced Fe self-fluxing alloy hybrid composite, and the microstructure and micro-hardness were investigated. The initial Fe-based self-fluxing alloy powders and TiC particles showed the spherical shape with a mean size of approximately 80 ${\mu}m$ and the irregular shape of less than 5 ${\mu}m$, respectively. After ball-milling at 800 rpm for 5 h, the powder mixture of Fe-based self-fluxing alloy powders and TiC particles formed into the agglomerated powders with the size of approximately 10 ${\mu}m$ that was composed of the nanosized TiC particles and nano-sized alloy particles. The TiC particle-reinforced Fe-based self-fluxing alloy hybrid composite sintered at 1173 K revealed a much denser microstructure and higher micro-hardness than that sintered at 1073 K and 1273 K.
Multiscale hybrid composites, which consist of polymeric resins, microscale fibers and nanoscale reinforcements, have drawn significant attention in the field of advanced, high-performance materials. Despite their advantages, multiscale hybrid composites show challenges associated with nanomaterial dispersion, viscosity, interfacial bonding and load transfer, and orientation control. In this paper, carbon nanotube(CNT)/carbon fiber(CF)/polycarbonate(PC) multiscale hybrid composite were fabricated by a solution process to overcome the difficulties associated with controlling the melt viscosity of thermoplastic resins. The dependence of CNT loading was studied by varying the method to add CNTs, i.e., impregnation of CF with CNT/PC/solvent solution and impregnation of CNT-coated CF with PC/solvent solution. In addition, hybrid composites were fabricated through surfactant-aided CNT dispersion followed by vacuum filtration. The morphologies of the surfaces of hybrid composites, as analyzed by scanning electron microscopy, revealed the quality of PC impregnation depends on the processing method. Dynamic mechanical analysis was performed to evaluate their mechanical performance. It was analyzed that if the position of the value of tan ${\delta}$ is closer to the ideal line, the adhesion between polymer and carbon fiber is stronger. The effect of mechanical interlocking has a great influence on the dynamic mechanical properties of the composites with CNT-coated CF, which indicates that coating CF with CNTs is a suitable method to fabricate CNT/CF/PC hybrid composites.
