  • A linear engine has advantages in terms of volume and weight, because there are no rotating parts. Thus, it is considered that linear engines might be suitable in hybrid vehicles. However, the linear engine has challenges in terms of the engine ignition timing and efficiency, so the engine has not been commercialized yet. In this study, the dynamic and combustion characteristics of the linear engine might be specified by various loads which are changed by conductance. The engine used in this experiment consists of two combustion chambers, four compressors, two linear alternators and a mover with a piston head and magnets. The way fuel is supplied in the experiment is by propane fuel being mixed with air in the carburetor, then being delivered into combustion cylinders via compressors. In the experiment, conductance is altered from 0.04 to 0.16mho, and the ignition timing is ahead by just 5.0mm from the maximum stroke. As a result of the experiment, frequency, stroke, input calories and maximum pressure are decreased when the conductance is increased. Meanwhile, IMEP, generation efficiency and electric power are increased when the conductance is increased. Therefore, it might confirm that high conductance generates more efficient electric power, but that thermal efficiency is the highest in the state of 0.08mho.

  • This paper develops a finite element model for studying occupant behavior of a mid-size truck equipped with a driver side airbag. The developed model simulates an occupant behavior using PAM-CRASH/PAM-SAFE in super computer SP2. The model is developed based on a sled test. A 50% hybrid dummy III is used for measuring head and chest accelerations and femur loads, and major injury coefficients such as HIC, CA and femur load. Inferior components such as foot rest, seat, kneebolster, crash pad, etc. are roughly modeled and defined by a rigid material model. And contact type II is used for detecting a contact with dummy. Contact type II definition uses force-deflection relationship of each body Such components as steering column which directly affect on the occupant injuy are modeled in detail and defined by an elastic-plastic material model. Airbag cushion is modeled using rivet elements. Airbag cover groove is modeled using rivet elements. Airbag tether is modeled as nonlinear bar elements. Airbag model has two vent holes to ventilating the exploded gas. Airbag is folded close to the real airbag folding procedure, and folded cautiously in order not to have initial penetration. A vehicle pulse acquired from 31mph frontal barrier test is used as input signal for the simulation. The simulation conditions are tuned to the sled test ones. The measured dummy accelerations and major injury coefficients, and filmed dummy behavior and airbag inflation process using high speed camera are compared to the simulation results to verify the developed finite element model.

  • It is very hard to obtain a general algorithm for solution of all the constraint satisfaction optimization problems. However, if the whole problem is separated into subproblems by characteristics of decision variables, we can assume that an algorithm to obtain solutions of these subproblems is easier. Under the assumption, we propose a problem classifying rule which subdivide the whole problem, and develop backtracking algorithms fit for these subproblems. One of the methods of finding a quick solution is efficiently arrange for any order of the search tree nodes. We choose the cluster head positioning problem in wireless sensor networks in which static characteristics is dominant and interference minimization problem of RFID readers that has hybrid mixture of static and dynamic characteristics. For these problems, we develop optimal variable ordering algorithms, and compare with the conventional methods. As a result of classifying the problem into subproblems, we can realize a backtracking framework for systematic search. We also have shown that developed backtracking algorithms have good performance in their quality.

  • Although laparoscopic pancreaticoduodenectomy (LPD) is considered as minimally invasive surgery, an advanced level of laparoscopic skill is still required. LPD comprises various procedures including reconstruction. Therefore, establishment of a safe approach at each step is needed. Prevention of intraoperative bleeding is the most important factor in safe completion of LPD. The establishment of effective retraction methods is also important at each site to prevent vascular injury. I also recommend the "uncinate process first" approach during initial cases of LPD, in which the branches of the inferior pancreaticoduodenal artery are dissected first, at points where they enter the uncinate process. This approach is performed at the left side of the superior mesenteric artery (SMA) before isolating the pancreatic head from the right aspect of the SMA, which allows safe dissection without bleeding. Safe and reliable reconstruction is also important to prevent postoperative complications. Laparoscopic pancreatojejunostomy requires highly skilled suturing technique. Pancreatojejunostomy through a small abdominal incision, as in hybrid-LPD, facilitates reconstruction. In LPD, the surgical view is limited. Therefore, we must carefully verify the position of the pancreaticobiliary limb. A twisted mesentery may cause severe congestion of the pancreaticobiliary limb following reconstruction, resulting in severe complications. We must secure the appropriate position of the pancreaticobiliary limb before starting reconstruction. We describe the incidence of intraoperative and postoperative complications and appropriate technique for safe performance of LPD.

  • In this in vitro study, confocal laser scanning microscopic morphology of dentin-resin interface and its relationship to shear bond strength were investigated after the exposed dentin surfaces were treated with 3 different kinds of dentin adhesive systems[three-step; Scotchbond Multi-Purpose Plus(SMPP), self-priming bonding resin; Single Bond(SB), self-etching primer; Clearfil Liner Bond 2(LB2)]. 52 extracted human molar teeth without caries and/or restorations. The experimental teeth were randomly divided into three groups of seventeen teeth each. In five teeth of each group, class V cavities(depth: 1.5mm) with 900 cavosurface angles were prepared at the cementoenamel junction on buccal and lingual surfaces. Bonding resins of each dentin adhesive system were mixed with rhodamine B. Primer of SMPP was mixed with fluorescein. In group 1. the exposed dentin was conditioned with etchant, applied with above primer and bonding resin of SMPP. In group 2, with etchant and self-priming bonding agent of SB. In group 3, with self-etching primer and bonding agent of LB2. After treatment with dentin adhesive systems, composite resin were applied and photocured. The experimental teeth were cut longitudinally through the center line of restoration and grounded so that about $90{\mu}m$-thick wafers of buccolingually orientated dentin were obtained. And, $70{\sim}80{\mu}m$-thick wafers sectioned horizontally, thus presenting a dentinal tubules at 900 to the cut surface of a remaining tooth, were obtained. Primer of SMPP mixed with rhodamine B was applied to these wafers. Confocal laser scanning microscopic investigations of these wafers were done within of 24 hours after treatment. To measure shear bond strength, the remaining twelve teeth of each group were grounded horizontally below the dentinoenamel junction, so that no enamel remained. After applying dentin adhesive systems on the dentin surface, composite was applied in the shape of cylinder. The cylinder was 5mm in diameter, and 2mm in thickness. Shear bond strength was measured using Instron with a cross-head speed of 0.5mm/min. It was concluded as follows ; 1. Hybrid layer of SMPP(mean: $4.56{\mu}m$) was thicker than that of any other groups. This value was not statistically significant thicker than that of SB(mean: $3.41{\mu}m$, p>0.05), and significant thicker than that of LB2(mean: $1.56{\mu}m$, p<0.05). There was a statistical difference between SB and LB2(p<0.05). 2. Although there were variations in the length of resin tag even in a sample, and in a group, most samples in SMPP and SB showed resin tags extending above $20{\mu}m$. But samples in LB2 showed resin tags of $10{\mu}m$ at best. 3. Besides primer's infiltration into demineralized peritubular dentin and dentinal tubules, fluorophore of primer was detected in the lateral branches of dentinal tubules. 4. All groups demonstrated statistically significant differences from one another(p<0.05), with shear bond strengths given in descending order as follows: SMPP(18.3MPa), SB(16.0MPa) and LB2(12.4MPa). 5. LB2 having thinnest hybrid layer($1.56{\mu}m$) showed the lowest shear bond strength(12.4MPa).

  • The main objective of this study was to develop a concept of service marketing promotion in nursing that is derived from the concepts of service marketing theory. This research was a descriptive study, at the factor isolation level. The principle of concept derivation suggested by Walker and Avant (1988) and the Hybrid model suggested by Schwarz-Barcott and Kim (1993) were employed as the research method. The data were collected from December, 1997 to April. 1998 at a large general hospital located in Seoul. The procedures of this study were as follows: First. at the theoretical phase: the meaning, attributes, and definition of service marketing promotion were identified through an extensive review of the literature. Second, at the empirical phase: fieldwork was done to identify the promotional activities and events in nursing. Top nurse managers from 4 units (Director of Nursing, Head nurses of inpatient nursing unit, outpatient nursing unit. and home care nursing unit) were interviewed and the content of the interview was analyzed to identify the meaning and attributes of promotion in nursing. Other methods such as brochures and other audio-visual materials which were relevant to nursing promotion were used to supplement the interviews. Finally, the results of the theoretical and empirical analyses were intergrated to develop a concept of service marketing in nursing practice. A final definition of service marketing promotion in nursing was identified as follows. 1. Promotion as a marketing function in nursing service is concerned with communication to target markets on all information related to nursing service in order to satisfy the objectives of both a nursing service organization and the target markets. 2. The goals of nursing service promotion include: 1) increasing visibility of nursing services and delivering the information on nursing services, 2) affirming the value of nursing services, so it can contribute to formulation of reimbursement policy for nursing services. 3) advancing the general image of the nursing profession and nursing services. 4) achieving and attaining a desirable positioning for nurses among health care professionals. and 5) creating and stimulating the demand for nursing services. 3. In order to obtain these goals it is necessary to provide information on nursing services, to persuade target markets. to remind them about nursing services. and to establish a collaborative relationship with related departments. 4. The tools used to carry out the above functions of promotion in nursing are the providing nursing services, public relations and publicity. QA of nursing, advertising, and sales promotion. 5. The target markets of nursing service include the nursing customer markets. the internal markets, the influence markets. the recruitment markets. the supplier markets. and the nursing referral markets. In conclusion, the concept of promotion in other service marketing areas can be applied to the promotion of nursing service marketing. The promotion of nursing service is more than just effective communication in nursing service. it is the effective use of the concepts of service marketing promotion. Promotion of nursing service will contribute to create and expand nursing services.

  • With the deployment of broadband networking technology, many clients are enabled to receive various Video on Demand (VoD) services. To support many clients, the network should be designed by considering the following factors: viewer's waiting time, buffer requirement at each client, number of channel required for video delivery, and video segmentation complexity. Among the currently available VoD service approaches, the Polyharmonic and Staircase broadcasting approaches show best performance with respect to each viewer's waiting time and buffer requirement, respectively. However, these approaches have the problem of dividing a video into too many segments, which causes very many channels to be managed and used at a time. To overcome this problem, we propose Polyharmonic-Staircase-Staggered (PSS) broadcasting approach that uses the Polyharmonic and Staircase approaches for the head part transmission and the Staggered approach for the tail part transmission. It is simple and bandwidth efficient. The numerical results demonstrate that our approach shows viewer's waiting time is comparable to that in the Harmonic approach with a slight increase in the bandwidth requirement, and saves the buffer requirement by about 60\% compared to the Harmonic broadcasting approach by simply adjusting the video partitioning coefficient factor. More importantly, our approach shows the best performance in terms of the number of segments and the number of channels managed and used simultaneously, which is a critical factor in real operation of VoD services. Lastly, we present how to configure the system adaptively according to the video partitioning coefficient.

  • In termperate zone planting rice at different date subjects the crop to different climatic condition. This study aimed at comparison of the change in source-sink relationship of the Japonica(J) and that of Indica Japonica(I$\times$J) type rice cultivars caused by shift of heading date. Two J-and two I$\times$J-type cultivars were made to head on Aug. 16, Aug. 26 and Sep. 5. Percent grain fertility was not changed in response to shift of heading date. Ripening patterns of 4 rice cultivars were similar to sigmoid curve type but when the heading date was delayed to Sep. 5, the form is changed to log type of curve. In J-type, physiological maturity was delayed about 5 day when headed at Sep. 5, in compare to headed at Aug. 16 and Aug. 26. However ripening was continued about 10 days when the diurnal, nocturnal and minimum temperature was above 17, 12$^{\circ}C$ and about 3~8$^{\circ}C$. In I$\times$J hybrid, real ripening was continued when the diurnal, nocturnal and minimum temperature was over 20, 17$^{\circ}C$, but if the minimum temperature was downed bellow 1$0^{\circ}C$, it was impossible. Simulated photosynthetic amount based on photosynthetic ability, temperature, leaf area and day length was varied according to changes in heading date and it was decreased seriously if the minimum temperature was fall down bellow 4$^{\circ}C$ in field, that's why decrease in photosynthetic ability and aging. The temperature range of optimum ripening was 21~26$^{\circ}C$, if there is nothing hindering factor.
