Six ansamycin derivatives were isolated from the culture broth of Streptomyces sp. KCB17JA11, including four new hygrolansamycins A-D (1-4) and known congeners divergolide O (5) and hygrocin C (6). Compounds 1-5 featured an unusual six-membered O-heterocyclic moiety. The isolation workflow was guided by a Molecular Networking-based dereplication strategy. The structures of 1-4 were elucidated using NMR and HRESIMS experiments, and the absolute configuration was established by the Mosher's method. Compound 2 exhibited mild cytotoxicity against five cancer cell lines with IC₅₀ values ranging from 24.60 ± 3.37 µM to 49.93 ± 4.52 µM.

A glycine and proline-rich antibacterial protein was cloned from larvae of a beetle, Protaetia brevitarsis. The DNAs encoded a deduced propeptide of 127 amino acid residues with predicted molecular weight of 14.0 kDa and PI of 7.89. Structural analysis of this protein indicated the presence of a recognition sequence for the cleavage site within the constitutive secretory pathway(Arg-Xaa-Lys/Arg-Arg), suggesting that mature portion(72 amino acid residues) is produced by cleavage of signal peptide and propeptide from 127 amino-acid-long precursor protein. Mature portion sequence of this protein showed 72% similarity to that of Oryctes rhinoceros Rhinocerosin and 91% to that of Holotrichia diomphalia holotricin 2. The mRNA expression was reached the highest level at 4 hrs after E. coli injection and then declined gradually.

Purpose: All masks are created by craftspeople. Accordingly, most masks are generally predictable in dimensions, and the portraitures usually depict the faces and heads of humans. The authors found some masks representing the features of facial asymmetry, such as hemifacial microsomia and rerely lateral facial cleft. Methods: Reviewing the legends of wearing masks with a medley of grotesque features, the authors could deduce the tone of society in those days. Results: A mask, 'crooked mouth', of Native Americans shows typical lineament of hemifacial microsomia. The deformity of the face was legendarily regarded as resulting from trauma caused by either 'one's fault' or a 'curse of God'. 'Grandmother' mask, used in the Korean masque dance of the Kosung province and Sooyoung province also shows the typical features of hemifacial microsomia which represent the old, deserted wife. 'Kori sanni yakka' mask in Sri Lanka, shows the facial asymmetry. In the legend, the child who became demon captured humans and caused illness through wind, phlegm, and bile to revenge on his father who killed his mother by deception of her maid. Conclusion: The authors presume that the victims of severe facial asymmetry were treated contemptuously at that time.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate the usefulness of ultrasound-guided femorosciatic nerve block by orthopaedist to operate the fracture around ankle. Materials and Methods: Twenty-two patients, who had an operation for fracture around the ankle under a ultrasound-guided femorosciatic nerve block from January to April 2010, were the targets of this study. We measured the time spent for the ultrasound-guided femorosciatic nerve block, the time taken to start the operation after the nerve block, the time taken to deflate the tourniquet because of a tourniquet pain, the time passed until feeling a postoperative pain after the operation, etc. We also studied the complications and satisfaction of the anesthesia. Results: It took 6.2 (3 to 12) minutes for the nerve block, 46.1 (28 to 75) minutes to start the operation, 52.5 (22 to 78) minutes until feeling a tourniquet pain and 11.5 (7.5 to 19) hours until starting to feeing a postoperative pain. There was no complication by anesthesia and 21 people (95.5%) were satisfied with anesthesia by ultrasound-guided femorosciatic nerve block. Conclusion: Ultrasound-guided femorosciatic nerve block by orthopaedist in the fracture around ankle reduces anesthetic and nerve injury complication, and leads to high anesthetic success rate. Also it is considered as an effective method to alleviate postoperative pain.

To define the molecular mechanism of initiation and termination of diapause during the embryogenesis of silkworm, Bombyx mori, mRNA transcripts from diapausing eggs and diapause activated eggs were compared with differential expression using cDNA array. Among those clones, mRNA transcript from hsp20.8A, which was expressed at a high level in diapausing eggs that had been incubated at $25^{\circ}C$ for 30 days after oviposition, whereas, in the eggs exposed to $15^{\circ}C$ for 30 days, $5^{\circ}C$ for 60 days, the expression of mRNA decreased. On the other hand, the expression of mRNA during embryogenesis observed abundantly at 4 to 6 days after heat-HCl treatment and later at 9 to 10 days after just before hatching. This result was suggested for us that hsp20.8A was expressed in response to embryogenesis as well as physical stress.

This study assessed the role of fatty acids on beef preference of 2 consumer groups from South Korea and Australia. Three muscles (longissimus dorsi, triceps brachii, and semimembranosus) were obtained from 36 carcasses (18 Hanwoo steers and 18 Angus steers) and the cooked beef samples were evaluated by 1,080 consumers (720 Korean consumer panels and 360 Australian consumer panels). The cluster analysis showed that the Korean consumers had more significant relationship with fatty acid composition of beef than that of the Australian consumers when evaluated Australian Angus beef Only C20:5(n-3), and C22:5(n-3) affected preference clustering for Australian consumers; while saturated (C16:0 and C 18:0) as well as unsaturated fatty acids [C16:1(n-7), C18:2(n-6), C18:3(n-3), C20:3(n-6), C20:4(n-6), C20:5(n-3), C22:4(n-6), C22:5(n-3)] affected preference clustering for Korean consumers (p<0.05). In the discriminant analysis of Korean consumer's preference clustering, C20:5(n-3) was a significant fatty acid for Australian Angus beef while the C20:4(n-6) and C 18:0 for Korean Hanwoo beef to evaluate the palatability (p<0.05). Therefore, fatty acid compositions impact Korean consumer's preference of beef.

'홍백' 복숭아를 대상으로 저장 및 유통 중 품질 향상을 위한 1-MCP처리 방법과 4종의 선도 유지제 처리효과를 구명하기 위하여 본 연구를 수행하였으며 그 결과는 다음과 같다. '홍백' 복숭아의 적정 1-MCP 농도는 1000ppb였고 경도유지 및 착색지연에 있어서 가장 우수한 효과를 나타내었는데 당도 및 산도의 변화에는 크게 영향을 미치지 않았다. 유통온도에 따른 1-MCP와 에틸렌 제거제의 효과를 보면 $20^{\circ}C$ 저장의 경우에 비하여 $30^{\circ}C$ 저장의 경우 1-MCP 처리의 긍정적 효과가 더욱 크게 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 1-MCP 처리가 고온에서의 유통과정 중 품질유지가 효과적일 수 있다는 것을 시사한다. 한편 1-MCP와 선도유지를 위한 박스 내 충진물질의 복합처리 효과를 검토하여 본 결과 1-MCP와 카본세라믹 복합처리구의 경우에서 가장 높은 경도유지효과를 나타내어 실용성이 인정되었다.

도로분야에서 탄소배출을 줄이기 위해서는 아스팔트 및 시멘트를 대체하는 공법이 필요하다. 고분자 재료는 가벼우면서 가공이 쉬워 여러 가지 복합기능을 가지는 재료로, 제조공정에서 탄소배출이 적어 시멘트 등이 사용되는 흙포장을 대체한다면 그 효과가 클 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 유기계 고화제만 적용한 흙포장의 현장시험을 통한 사용성을 파악하였다. 실 규모의 자전거도로로 조성된 포장체는 3개월 노출 후에도 노상의 지지력계수 기준을 만족하는 것으로 나타났다. 포장 구조체의 장기 공용성을 단기간에 모사하는 포장가속시험으로 16억대의 자전거가 통과한 후 포장체의 상태에는 큰 변화가 없는 것으로 타나나 흙포장으로서 장기 공용성을 만족하는 것으로 평가되었다.

Eleven patients with calcaneal fracture had 2 acute compartment syndrome of the feet and 9 late complication of the compartment syndrome of the feet. An interstitial pressure of more than 30 mmHg in either the central or interosseous compartment was considered pathologic and was treated by fasciotomy performed medially. Rigid claw toe deformity was treated by excision of the head and neck of the proximal phalanx, dorsal capsular release of the metatarsophalangeal joint, and lengthening of the extensor tendon. Patients were evaluated at a mean of 35 months(range, 21 - 44 months) after operation, and the examination was directed specifically toward symptoms and signs of myoneural ischemia, and walking pain. At follow-up, 2 patients with acute compartment syndrome of the foot had no evidence of myoneural ischemia, 9 patients with claw toe deformity had no pain with walking. Based on our clinical observations, we concluded that compartment syndrome of the foot may occur after the calcaneal fracture and fasciotomy is effective treatment for the prevention of the long term sequelae of this debilitating condition.

Purpose: To analyze the clinical and radiological feature of Os subfibulare and to evaluate the results after anatomical reduction and internal fixation with bone graft for Os subfibulare. Materials and Methods: Forty-two cases, which underwent anatomic reduction and bone graft for Os subfibulare from October 1998 to September 2004 were reviewed. We analysed preopertive symptoms and onset of symptoms and radiologically measured the size and amounts of displacement of Os subfibulare under the inversion stress. Postoperatively we evaluated the clinical results measured by Hasegawa method and evidence of union. Results: Preoperatively there were only pain around the lateral malleolus in 16 cases, only instability of ankle joint in 3 cases, and pain and instability in 23 cases. The age of symptom onset averaged 23 years(range, 13-38 years). Radiographically Os sufibulare anteriorly located from lateral malleolus were in 40 cases, posteriorly situated in 2 cases. The size of Os subfibulare ranged from $1{\times}4\;mm$ to $8{\times}17\;mm$. In 22 cases of inversion stress view, displacement of the Os sbufibulare averaged $1.5{\pm}1.1\;mm$ (0 to 5 mm). The postoperative clinical results were excellent in 41 cases, poor in 1 case. There were complications of 1 case of irritation of sural nerve, 1 case of nonunion. Conclusion: Anatomic reduction and bone graft is effective treatment method for symptomatic Os subfibulare.
