Taenia solium, T. saginata, and T. asiatica are taeniid tapeworms that cause taeniasis in humans and cysticercosis in intermediate host animals. Taeniases remain an important public health concerns in the world. Molecular diagnostic methods using PCR assays have been developed for rapid and accurate detection of human infecting taeniid tapeworms, including the use of sequence-specific DNA probes, PCR-RFLP, and multiplex PCR. More recently, DNA diagnosis using PCR based on histopathological specimens such as 10% formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded and stained sections mounted on slides has been applied to cestode infections. The mitochondrial gene sequence is believed to be a very useful molecular marker for not only studying evolutionary relationships among distantly related taxa, but also for investigating the phylo-biogeography of closely related species. The complete sequence of the human Taenia tapeworms mitochondrial genomes were determined, and its organization and structure were compared to other human-tropic Taenia tapeworms for which complete mitochondrial sequence data were available. The multiplex PCR assay with the Ta4978F, Ts5058F, Tso7421F, and Rev7915 primers will be useful for differential diagnosis, molecular characterization, and epidemiological surveys of human Taenia tapeworms.
Internet of Things (IoT) is the paradigm of network of Internet-connected things as objects that constantly sense the physical world and share the data for further processing. At the core of IoT lies the early technology of radio frequency identification (RFID), which provides accurate location tracking of real-world objects. With its small size and convenience, RFID tags can be attached to everyday items such as books, clothes, furniture and the like as well as to animals, plants, and even humans. This phenomenon is the beginning of new applications and services for the industry and consumer market. IoT is regarded as a fourth industrial revolution because of its massive coverage of services around the world from smart homes to artificial intelligence-enabled smart driving cars, Internet-enabled medical equipment, etc. It is estimated that there will be several dozens of billions of IoT devices ready and operating until 2020 around the world. Despite the growing statistics, however, IoT has security vulnerabilities that must be addressed appropriately to avoid causing damage in the future. As such, we mention some fields of study as a future topic at the end of the survey. Consequently, in this comprehensive survey of IoT, we will cover the architecture of IoT with various layered models, security characteristics, potential applications, and related supporting technologies of IoT such as 5G, MEC, cloud, WSN, etc., including the economic perspective of IoT and its future directions.

Recent and ongoing discoveries of mycoviruses with new properties demand the development of an appropriate research infrastructure to analyze their evolution and classification. In particular, the discovery of negative-sense single-stranded mycoviruses is worth noting in genome types in which double-stranded RNA virus and positive-sense single-stranded RNA virus were predominant. In addition, some genomic properties of mycoviruses are more interesting because they have been reported to have similarities with the pathogenic virus family that infects humans and animals. Genetic information on mycoviruses continues to accumulate in public repositories; however, these databases have some difficulty reflecting the latest taxonomic information and obtaining specialized data for mycoviruses. Therefore, in this study, we developed a bioinformatics-based pipeline to efficiently utilize this genetic information. We also designed a schema for data processing and database construction and an algorithm to keep taxonomic information of mycoviruses up to date. The pipeline and database (termed 'mycoVDB') presented in this study are expected to serve as useful foundations for improving the accuracy and efficiency of future research on mycoviruses.
Species are facing strong selection pressures to adapt to inhospitable high-altitude environments. Yaks are a valuable species and an iconic symbol of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. Extensive studies of high-altitude adaptation have been conducted, but few have focused on metabolism. In the present study, we determined the differences in the serum metabolomics between yaks and the closely related species of low-altitude yellow cattle and dairy cows. We generated high-quality metabolite profiling data for 36 samples derived from the three species, and a clear separation trend was obtained between yaks and the other animals from principal component analysis. In addition, we identified a total of 63 differentially expressed metabolites among the three species. Functional analysis revealed that differentially expressed metabolites were related to the innate immune activation, oxidative stress-related metabolism, and energy metabolism in yaks, which indicates the important roles of metabolites in high-altitude adaptation in yaks. The results provide new insights into the mechanism of adaptation or acclimatization to high-altitude environments in yaks and hypoxia-related diseases in humans.

Silkworm pupae, a by-product of the silk industry are known to be valuable resource of nutrients for humans as well as animals besides encompassing diverse bioactive constituents. However, there is a paucity of knowledge on their role in amelioration of oxidative stress and anti-skin aging properties. In the present study, we evaluated the inhibitory effect of aqueous as well as ethanolic (30% and 70%) extracts from distinct stages of male and female silkworm pupae belonging to two silkworm varieties on skin aging-related enzymes. The activities of collagenase, elastase and tyrosinase were effectively inhibited by 70% ethanolic silkworm pupal extracts (SPE), followed by 30% with aqueous extracts exhibiting meager inhibitory potential. SPE were also investigated for their antioxidant activity in oxidative-stressed murine fibroblasts (L929). The intracellular ROS and lipid peroxidation induced by tert-butyl hydroperoxide (t-BHP) in fibroblasts was better attenuated by pre treatment with ethanolic (30%) and aqueous extracts, respectively. The safety of the extracts was determined by studying their effect on fibroblast cell viability and it was found that none of the extracts were cytotoxic. Our findings indicate the potential utility of SPE as anti-aging components in cosmeceuticals.
As a result of the enormous amount of information that has been collected with E. coli over the past half century (e.g. genome sequence, mutant phenotypes, metabolic and regulatory networks, etc.), we now have detailed knowledge about gene regulation, protein activity, several hundred enzyme reactions, metabolic pathways, macromolecular machines, and regulatory interactions for this model organism. However, understanding how all these processes interact to form a living cell will require further characterization, quantification, data integration, and mathematical modeling, systems biology. No organism can rival E. coli with respect to the amount of available basic information and experimental tractability for the technologies needed for this undertaking. A focused, systematic effort to understand the E. coli cell will accelerate the development of new post-genomic technologies, including both experimental and computational tools. It will also lead to new technologies that will be applicable to other organisms, from microbes to plants, animals, and humans. E. coli is not only the best studied free-living model organism, but is also an extensively used microbe for industrial applications, especially for the production of small molecules of interest. It is an excellent representative of Gram-negative commensal bacteria. E. coli may represent a perfect model organism for systems biology that is aimed at elucidating both its free-living and commensal life-styles, which should open the door to whole-cell modeling and simulation.
Composites of hydroxyapatite (HAp) and chitosan (CS) have been successfully used in bone healing in humans and animals. However, the characteristics of HAp and CS are different. Therefore, the effects of HAp/CS composites on canine bone formation could differ according to their ratio. This study investigated the therapeutic effects of different contents ratios (100, 80:20, 60:40 wt%) on bone defects in a canine model. Thirty intrabony cylindrical defects were created in the humeruses and femurs of 5 beagle dogs, and then the defects were implanted with different composites. The evaluations were performed using radiographs obtained at 10 weeks post-surgery and by histological findings. In radiographic evaluation including the grades of bone filling, periosteal and endosteal reactions, pure hydroxyapatite composite had a significant effect on bone filling, and chitosan containing the composites showed vigorous responses at the periosteum and endosteum. In histological findings, the defect implanted with pure hydroxyapatite had healed completely into mature bony tissue with an obvious osteon structure, and the defect implanted with chitosan containing the composites had the amount of fibrous connective tissue increased significantly within the cortical bone tissue. The results indicate that hydroxyapatite/chitosan composites are therapeutically useful, promoting effective bone healing in defects when the ratio of hydroxyapatite is high and enhanced fibrous connective tissue formation at the periosteum as more chitosan is added.
Objective : Acupuncture and herbal medicine have been used to prevent and treat cerebrovascular accident, such as stroke, and many studies of acupuncture and moxibustion concerning stroke have been undertaken in humans and various animals. However, the protective effect of the electroacupuncture (EA) of Huan-do (GB30) on the transient forebrain ischemia injury has not been published. Methods : The nenroprotective effects of EA (2 ms, 10 Hz, and 1 - 2 mA) of GB30 on the transient forebrain ischemia injury were investigated by immunohistochemistry of c-Fos-like protein in Sprague-Dawley rats. Results : The transient forebrain ischemia injury resulted in increased expression of c-Fos-like protein (cFL) in the dentate gyms (DG) and CAl for 6 hrs after ischemia, and EA increased significantly expression of cFL in the CAl and DG. For 48 hrs after, there was delayed expression of cFL at the CAl and DG, representing the sign of neuronal cell death, but EA decreased the delayed expression of cFL, significantly. Conclusion : These results suggest that the nenroprotective effects of EA on transient forebrain ischemia injury may be related to excitatory regulation of cFL at the early stage and inhibitory regulation in the long term.
Nicotine, primary component of tobaco produces craving and withdrawal effect both in humans and animals. Nicotine shows a close resemblance to other addictive drugs in molecular, neuroanatomical and pharmacological, particularly the drugs which enhances the cognitive functions. Nicotine mainly shows its action through specific nicotinic acetylcholine receptors located in brain. It stimulates presynaptic acetylcholine receptors thereby enhancing Ach release and metabolism. Dopaminergic system is also stimulated by it, thus increasing the concentration of dopamine in nuclear accumbens. This property of nicotine according to various researchers is responsible for reinforcing behavioral change and dependence of nicotine. Various researchers have also depicted that some non dopaminergic systems are also involved for rewarding effect of nicotinic withdrawal. Neurological systems such as GABAergic, serotonergic, noradrenergic, and brain stem cholinergic may also be involved to mediate the actions of nicotine. Further, the neurobiological pathway to nicotine dependence might perhaps be appropriate to the attachment of nicotine to nicotinic acetylcholine receptors, peruse by stimulation of dopaminergic system and activation of general pharmacological changes that might be responsible for nicotine addiction. It is also suggested that MAO A and B both are restrained by nicotine. This enzyme helps in degradation dopamine, which is mainly responsible for nicotinic actions and dependence. Various questions remain uninsurable to nicotine mechanism and require more research. Also, various genetic methods united with modern instrumental analysis might result for more authentic information for nicotine addiction.
Ibuprofen is one of the nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID) and has shown antiinflammatory; antipyretic, and analgesic activity in both animals and humans. But it causes gastric mucosal abnormalities including edema, erythema, and submucosal petechial hemorrhages and erosin in human. In addition, based on the pharmaceutical point of view the compression and dissolution ability of ibuprofen is known as poor. Therefore we studied to develop novel formulation containing water-insoluble drug, ibuprofen, using microemulsion consisting of surfactant, oil phase, and water phase was prepared for the purpose of increasing its bioavilability The physicochemical properties such as particle size, dissolution rate, solubility of ibuprofen in the system were determined. After oral administration of ibuprofen containing the microemulsion system, to Sprague-Dawley rats, pharmacokinetic parameters were also obtained. For the formulation in the study, oleic acid, linoleic acid, and several kinds of glycerides and triglycerides were used as an oil phase with several surfactants. Diethylene glycol monoethyl ether (Transcuto $l^{ }$) or saturated polyglycolized glycerides (Labrafil $^{ }$)as surfactant was used, the domain of microemulsion was wide. The diameter of o/w microemulsion was ranged from 90 to 220 nm. Microemulsion, prepared with unsatulated polyglycolized glycerides (Labrafil $^{ }$) and the 2 : 1 molar mixture of diethylene glycol monoethyl ether (Transcuto $l^{ }$)/polyoxyethylene(4) lauryl ether (Bri $j^{ }$ 30) , is expected to be promising system that increased the bioavilability of ibuprofen.ibuprofen.
