Purpose: Autologous vessels remain the gold standard for vascular grafts in microanastomoses. However, they are sometimes unavailable and have a limited long - term patency. Synthetic vessels have high success rates in large - diameter reconstructions but failed when used as small - diameter grafts due to graft occlusion. It has been proved that endothelial cell seeding improves prosthesis performance and long - term patency. Among polyurethane, PET and ePTFE, polyurethane has the best affinity to endothelial cells and mechanical properties closest to human vessels. We examined the ability of endothelial cells to attach to a polyurethane graft manufactured by the electrospinning method. Methods: Endothelial cells, which were cultured from porcine internal jugular veins, were attached to polyurethane grafts with an internal diameter of 3 mm. The same cells were attached to allogeneic decellularized porcine internal carotid artery grafts as controls. Both of the 10 mm - long grafts were exposed to endothelial cells in a well for 1 hour. Each well contained $2{\times}10^5$ endothelial cells. The graft materials were rotated through 90 degrees every 15 minutes in order to minimize the effect of gravity. The extent of cell attachment was examined with the MTT assay. Results: The MTT assay showed good incorporation of endothelial cells into both grafts. For the evaluation of affinity, the number of attached cells was counted at 10 fields of microscopic examination with ${\times}40$ magnification. Endothelial cells adhered more to polyurethane grafts (mean, $127.4{\pm}6.2cells$) compared to porcine artery grafts (mean $45.8{\pm}5.1cells$)(p<0.05,Mann - Whitney test). Conclusion: In this study, we attached porcine endothelial cells to polyurethane grafts, manufactured by electrospinning. The grafts exhibited a better affinity to endothelial cells than allogeneic decellularized porcine internal carotid artery grafts. It is suggested that the time required for endothelial cells to attach to decellulized artery grafts may be longer than that which is required for attachment to polyurethane grafts.

This research carried out a study on the job characteristics of the skipper of the coastal composite fishing vessels in order to find a way to prevent the ship collision caused by the highest human error among the marine casualty of fishing boats. Video observation was used as the research method in which six CCD cameras were installed on the vessel to collect image data and data extracted from the image were analyzed to derive the results of the functional activity of skipper according to the fishing operation process of experimental fishing vessel. The results are as follows. The working process of the experimental fishing vessel consisted of navigation for fishing ground, setting line, waiting for hauling line, hauling line and navigation to homeport. In these processes, the skipper was performing watchkeeping in the wheelhouse in which he carried out a single task, a dual task that performed two tasks simultaneously, and a triple task that performed two or more tasks simultaneously. In addition, one of the risk factors causing the collision was a no watchkeeping in the wheelhouse for navigating for fishing ground, waiting for hauling line, and hauling line at 25.4%, 64.6% and 0.3%, respectively among the marine casualty while drowsiness caused 1.2% of the marine casualty in navigating for fishing ground. Concurrent tasks that simultaneously perform two or more tasks that can overlook any other important duties while carrying out watchkeeping in the wheelhouse include 51.3% of navigation for fishing ground, 81.9% of setting line, 19.0% of waiting for hauling line, 87.9% of hauling, and 88.7% of navigation to homeport. The above concurrent tasks yielded an average of 66.1%. Experimental fishing vessels are required to focus on ship handling operations related to fishery operations, and the skipper is assigned more activities and attention to fishery related tasks. Therefore, it is considered desirable to build a collision prevention system that is appropriate to the characteristics of the skipper's work, escaping from transferring the responsibility of ship collision to the skipper completely.

In accordance with the increased demand for ocean use, the Marine Spatial Planning system was introduced to rationally allocate ocean space, under which fishing activity protection zones have been designated to protect fishery activities and promote fishery resource protection. However, fishing vessels that mainly sail in fishing activity protection zones are exposed to risk, such that they account for about 70% of marine accidents that occur in Korea, Proper risk management is thus required. This study aims to analyze marine accidents in fishing activities protection zones and port and navigation zones to secure the safety of fishing vessels passing within fishing activity protection zones. To this end, the traffic volume in marine use zones was investigated, and marine accidents were investigated by ship type, accident type, tonnage, accident cause, and loss of life. Analysis determined that most of the marine accidents per unit area of each type occurred in port and navigation zones, but overall most marine accidents occurred in fishing activity protection zones. In particular, it was found that traffic safety management was necessary because many human accidents occurred.

Cerebral blood vessels relax when extracellular $K^+$ concentrations $([K^+])_e$ are elevated moderately $(2{\sim}15$ mM, $K^+-induced$ vasorelaxation). We have therefore studied the underlying mechanism for this $K^+-induced$ vasorelaxation in the isolated middle cerebral arteries (MCAs). The effects of ouabain and $Ba^{2+}\;on\;K^+-induced$ vasorelaxation were examined to determine the role of sodium pump and/or Ba-sensitive process (possibly, inward rectifier K current) in the mechanism. Mulvany myograph was used to study 24 rats, 18 rabbits, and 10 humans MCAs $(216{\pm}3\;{\mu}m,\;347{\pm}7\;{\mu}m,\;and\;597{\pm}39\;{\mu}m$ in diameter when stretched to a tension equivalent to 55 mmHg). High $K^+$ (125 mM) and $PGF_{2{\alpha}}\;(1{\sim}10\;{\mu}M)$ induced concentration-dependent contractions in all 3 species, while histamine $(10{\sim}50\;{\mu}M)$ evoked contraction only in the rabbits and induced relaxation in the rats and humans. Addition of $K^+\;(2{\sim}10\;{\mu}M)$ to the control solution induced vasorelaxations. These effects were inhibited by the pretreatment with both ouabain $(10\;{\mu}M)$ and $Ba^{2+}\;(0.1{\sim}0.3\;mM)$ in the rat, but only with ouabain $(10\;{\mu}M)$ in the rabbit and human. These results suggest that $K^+-induced$ vasorelaxation occurs via the stimulation of electrogenic Na pump in the rabbit and human MCAs, while in the rat MCAs via the activation of both Na pump and Ba-sensitive process.
Attenuated varicella-zoster virus (VZV) was propagated in human lung fibroblast (HLF) cells Among media tested in this work, DMEM was the best medium for the growth of HLF cells. Because HLF was a normal finite cell line, cell growth late was dependent on the age of HLF cells. When the population doubling level (PDL) was higher than 46, apoptosis of HLF cells started and cell growth rate decreased. The optimum temperature for the cell growth and virus propagation in the T-flask culture was $37^{\circ}C$. In a microcarrier culture system in which Cytodex-3 was used for the VZV propagation in spinner vessels, the yield of plaque forming cells was lower than that in the T-flask culture. The relatively high shear environment near microcarriers was thought to cause the low yield of VZV in the microcarrier culture system.
The morphological development of the carotid body was studied by electron microscope in human fetuses from 40mm to 260mm crown rump length (10-30 weeks of gestational age). At 40mm fetus, the carotid body was composed of cluster of primitive glomus cells, primitive supporting cells, unmyelinated nerve fibers, and blood capillaries. In connective tissue between internal and external carotid arteries adjacent to the superior cervical sympathetic ganglion, two types of glomus cells through all prenatal period were found. Dark cells contained a dense cytoplasm with conspicuous large dense-cored granules, whereas light cells had a less dense cytoplasm with dense-cored granules. The light cells contained dense-cored granules that were smaller and less abundant than those in the dark cells. The primitive supporting cells appeared star-shaped with attenuated cytoplasmic extensions intervening between the adjacent glomus cells. Synaptic contact between the axon terminals and soma of the glomus cells were first observed at 40mm fetus. In 80-100mm fetus, the carotid body contained tightly packed collection of glomus cells and supporting cells which surrounded the abundant thin-walled blood vessels. Intercellular junctions between the glomus cells and adjacent cells were commonly seen. Nerve endings on the glomus cells have the form of small boutons and the other from of large calyces. During the second half of the fetal period, the glomus cells were completely enveloped by supporting cells and nerve terminals. At 260mm, the morphological features of carotid body were similar to those of human adult. The result of this study demonstrates that there are differences between the carotid body and aorticopulmonary bodies, especially with respect to their synaptic complexes, abundant blood capillaries, and two glomus cell types.
The development of small granule-containing cell in the superior cervical ganglion was studied by electron microscopic method in human fetuses ranging from 40 mm to 260 mm crown rump length (10 to 30 weeks of gestational age). At 40 mm fetus, the superior cervical ganglion was composed of clusters of undifferentiated cells, primitive neuroblasts, and unmyelinated nerve fibers together with blood vessels. At 90 mm fetus, the superior cervical ganglion consisted of neuroblasts, satellite cell, small granule-containing cells, and unmyelinated nerve fibers. Two morphological types of the small granule-containing cells in the superior cervical ganglion were first indentified at 90 mm fetus, but were rare. Type I granule-containing cell occurred in solitary and had long processes, whereas type II cells tend to appeared in clusters near the blood capillaries. The granule-containing cells were characterized by the presence of dense-cored vesicles ranging from $150{\sim}300nm$ in diameter in both the cell bodies and processes. Other organelles included abundant mitochondria, rough endoplasmic reticulum, neurotubules, and widely distributed ribosomes. The granule-containing cells had long processes similar to those found in principal ganglionic cells. They could be identified by their content in dense-cored vesicles. The small granule-containing cells increased somewhat in size and number with increase of fetal age. Synaptic contacts were first found on the solitary granule-containing cell at 150 mm fetus. Synaptic contacts between the soma and processes of type I granule-containing cells and preganglionic axon terminals were observed. In addition, synaptic junctions between the processes of granule-containing cells and presumed dendrite of postganglionic neuron were also observed from 150 mm onward. On the basis of these features type I granule-containing cells could be considered as interneurons. The clusters of type II granule-containing cells were located in the interstitial or subcapsular portions of the ganglion, and had short processes which ended in close relation to fenestrated capillaries. Therefore it may be infer that clusters of type II granule-containing cells have an endocrine function.

Lamellarin D (LamD) is a marine alkaloid with a pronounced cytotoxicity against a large panel of cancer cells, affecting cell growth and inducing apoptosis. However, the molecular mechanisms of action of this compound are poorly understood. In this study, the anticancer efficacy of LamD was investigated in human leukemia K562 cells. The results showed suppressed cell proliferation and induction of G0/G1-phase arrest,while expression of CDK1, and activity of smad3 and smad5 were reduced, but that of p27, p53 and STGC3 was increased. LamD induced cell apoptosis through activation of caspases-8/-3, inhibition of survivin and Bcl-2, suggesting that this compound may also act through a caspase-independent pathway. Moreover, LamD inhibited the secretion of TGF-${\beta}$, IL-$1{\beta}$, IL-6, IL-8 and other inflammatory cytokines and the transcriptional activity of transcription factor NF-${\kappa}B$ in human leukemia K562 cells.Taken together, our results suggest that LamD-mediated inhibition of leukemia cell proliferation may be related to the induction of apoptosis and the regulation of cell cycle, tumor-related gene expression and cytokine expression, which may provide a new way of thinking for the treatment leukemia.
The preventive effects of gene transfer of human copper/zinc superoxide dismutase (Cu/ZnSOD) on the development of cerebral vasospasm after subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) were examined usin a rat model of SAH. An experimental SAH was produced by injecting autologous arterial blood twice into the cisterna magna, and the changes in the diameter of the middle cerebral artery (MCA) were measured. Rats subjected to SAH exhibited a decreased diameter with an increased wall thickness of MCA that were significantly ameliorated by pretreatment with diphenyleneiodonium (DPI, $10{\mu}M$), an inhibitor of NAD(P)H oxidase. Furthermore, application of recombinant adenovirus ($100{\mu}l$ of $1{\times}10^{10}$ pfu/ml, intracisternally), which encodes human Cu/ZnSOD, 3 days before SAH prevented the development of SAH-induced vasospasm. Our findings demonstrate that SAH-induced cerebral vasospasm is closely related with NAD(P)H oxidase-derived reactive oxygen species, and these alterations can be prevented by the recombinant adenovirus-mediated transfer of human Cu/ZnSOD gene to the cerebral vasculature.

For the purpose of investigating the reasonable logics contained in physiognomy of east and old western medicine. hypothetical researches based on hydromechanics theory were performed concerning facial types of form and pathologic features, especially 4 types of Dr. Jisan-Essence, Qi energy. Emotional Activity and Blood(EQAB). In order to infer the functional relation between facial type forming and EQAB factors, EQAB were supposed as fluid grounded on their continual flowing or periodical change and pressure effect from its congestion. and a premise that there's a linear corresponding relationship between the appearance of organ and its physical conditions of its inner vessels is formed too. Through this work, the unit fluid model(UFM) of Essence can be assumed as circle shape formed by the high viscosity and surface tension, the UFM model of Qi energy as quadrangular shape by the scattering features to outer four directions, and the UFM of emotional activity as inverted triangular shape by the flippant and uprising features, and the UFM of blood as ellipsoid triangle by the heavy and descending features in spite of circulation. The shapes made from each UFM are reproduced in the process of human development and manifest respective facial shape through the self-reproduction method like fractal theory in the last. Conclusively. it is said that the facial form analysis method like EQAB type theory can be the useful methodology to understand the human pathological and physiological features in view of hydromechanics.
