인력 수중익선의 정적 종안정성 평가 (Evaluation of Longitudinal Static Stability of Human Powered Hydrofoil Boat)

  • In this paper, longitudinal static stability is investigated, which is an essential requirement for the safety and the performance of the human powered hydrofoil boat (HPHB). In case a disturbance changes the trim angle of the boat, the derivative of the moment about the center of gravity must be negative in order to make the boat to be stable. The equation to evaluate the longitudinal static stability of the EPISODE, a HPHB of Chungnam National University with a height controlling system(HCS) is derived. From the derivative it is confirmed that a longitudinal and vertical position of the center of gravity is important for a HPHB. The range of a trim angle while the boat is foil-born was found with a HCS under the condition of mechanical restraint. And it is confirmed that the longitudinal static stability is satisfied for EPISODE in certain range of a trim angle. It is also shown that the longitudinal static stability and a range of the trim angle can be determined from the principal dimensions of a HPHB, therefore, it can be applied from the stage of the conceptual design of HPHB.

수상 자전거의 동력전달장치 설계 (Design of Power Transmission System of a Water Bike)

  • The power transmission system has always been considered critical for a human powered boat(or water bike) since it first showed up at Human Powered Vessel Festival. Mechanical problems, such as abrasions and other damages of the gear system for the power transmission, lead to poor durability and low efficiency of a boat. This paper described mechanical problems and a design process of power transmission system and then suggested the method to solve the problems. It is selected a module and a type of gears that are structurally stable thus can transmit the power durable. Especially the lower gear box is applied to CRP(contra rotating propeller) system for improving the structural stability and the propeller efficiency as well. As the results, the upper and lower gear box are designed and manufactured. And from the trial test, it is confirmed that the power transmission system is reliable.

솔라보트 EPISODE의 개발 (A Development of EPISODE Solar Boat)

  • Human Powered Vessel Festival (HPVF) hosted by the College of Engineering of Chungnam National University, the Society of Naval Architects of Korea and the Korea Ocean Research & Development Institute has been held annually in Daejon since 1999. Solar boat powered by solar energy appeared for the first time in 2006, and it is expected that more new teams will enter this competition in the coming years. In this paper it is described that design procedures and manufacture processes of the solar boat named EPISODE. Firstly, It is aimed to understand compositions of the electric system and their performance properties and to show the design procedures using commercial design packages line WAVIS, CATIA, HCAD etc. Through the trial test, we confirmed ship speed, maneuverability, durability and operation condition of the electric system and found some problems. We plans to make reported problems go away and install hydrofoils for more improved speed performance.
