  • Image similarity is often decided by computing the distance between two feature vectors. Unfortunately, the feature vector cannot always reflect the notion of similarity in human perception. Therefore, most current image retrieval systems use weights measuring the importance of each feature. In this paper new initial weight selection and update rules are proposed for image retrieval purpose. In order to obtain the purpose, database images are first divided into groups based on human perception and, inner and outer query are performed, and, then, optimal feature weights for each database images are computed through searching the group where the result images among retrieved images are belong. Experimental results on 2000 images show the performance of proposed algorithm.

  • The base compositional correlations that hold among various coding and noncoding regions of the canine genome have been analysed. The distribution pattern of genes, on the basis of $GC_3$ composition, shows a wide range similar to that observed in human. However the occurrence of maximum number of genes was observed in the range of 65-75% of $GC_3$ composition. The correlation between the coding DNA sequences of canine with the different noncoding regions (introns and flanking regions) is found to be significant and in many cases the degree of correlation show similarity to human genome. We found that these correlations are not limited to the GC content alone, but is holding at the level of the frequency of individual bases as well. The present study suggests that canines ideally belong to the predicted 'general mammalian pattern' of genome composition along with human beings.

  • In this paper, we present a vision-based human primitive motion recognition method. It models the reference motion patterns, recognizes a user's motion, and measures the similarity between the reference action and the user's one. In order to recognize a motion, we provide a pattern modeling method based on the Hidden Markov Models. In addition, we provide a similarity measurement method between the reference motion and the user's one using the editing distance algorithm. Experimental results show that the recognition rate of ours is above 93%. Our method can be used in the motion recognizable games, the motion recognizable postures, and the rehabilitation training systems.

  • This paper proposes the assessment method for objective quality-evaluation-index of mosaic images. Quality assessment was evaluated using seam-line method and similarity and contrast of adjacent images. The evaluation measure was calculated based on selected evaluation criteria and compared with human visual inspection. It was found that quantitative quality evaluation measure showed that the evaluation results were similar to human visual check. Conclusively experimental results proved that proposed evaluation measure could be used for quantitative and objective quality assessment of mosaic images.

  • The main functionality of occupancy sensors is to determine the existence of humans in the space. If the space is occupied, a light is on and for vacancy, the light automatically turns off. In this letter, the functionality is realized by the utilization of color information. The color information of incoming people is saved. For outgoing people, their color distribution is compared with the saved information, thus providing the recognition of the outgoing people. For the comparison, four similarity metrics are examined to validate the proposed method.

  • This study aims to verify the sewing technology and the expression of the virtual garment program by comparing the appearance similarity between the real and the virtual power shoulder jacket. To this end, the H and the X silhouettes of the power shoulder jacket were selected as the reference designs. After making the reference designs into real jackets by applying the human body dimensions of women in their twenties, virtual avatars and jackets were produced using CLO 3D programs. The results showed that the H-type with only expanded shoulders and less design variation had a high similarity between the reference photo and real garment, the real and virtual garment, and the reference photo and virtual garment. The power shoulder jacket of the reference picture was well reproduced in the real and virtual garments. Conversely, the X-type jacket, which is a tight fit and has many design variations, showed somewhat low similarity in the circumference items and the basic construction line. Especially in tight-fitted power shoulder jackets, the fact that shoulder angles and the essential items for pattern making cannot be reflected in reproducing virtual models was found to be a limitation in increasing the similarity of virtual clothing. Furthermore, the sewing system gap between the real and the virtual clothing exposed a difference in the appearance of virtual clothing.

  • Current global textiles and fashion industries have gradually shifted focus to high value-added, high sensibility, and multi-functional products based on new human-friendliness and sustainable growth technologies. Textile design CAD systems have been developed in conjunction with computer hardware and software sector advances. This study compares the patterns or images of actual woven fabrics and virtual fabrics prepared with a textile design CAD system. In this study, several weave structures (such as fancy yarn weave and patterns) were prepared with a shuttle loom. The woven textile images were taken using a CCD camera. The same weave structure data and yarn data were fed into a textile design CAD system in order to simulate fabric images as similarly as possible. Similarity Index analysis methods allowed for an analysis of the index between the actual fabric specimen and the simulated image of the corresponding fabric. The results showed that repeated small pattern weaves provide superior similarity index values than those of a fancy yarn weave that indicate some irregularities due to fancy yarn attributes. A Complex Wavelet Structural Similarity(CW-SSIM) index resulted in a better index than other methods such as Multi-Scale(MS) SSIM, and Feature Similarity(FS) SSIM, across fabric specimen images. A correlation analysis of the similarity index based on an image analysis and a similarity evaluation by panel members was also implemented.

  • This study: 1) identifies differences in consumers' perceived similarity of extended products to their parent product in terms of brand attributes, 2) identifies the influence of the perceived similarity on consumer's attitude toward and purchase intention of extended products (i.e., brand extension effect), and 3) examines the moderating effect of Brand Relationship Quality (BRQ) on brand extension effects. A survey questionnaire was distributed to a convenience sample of individuals aged 20-39. A total of 576 valid responses were used for the final analysis. The results showed that: 1) the consumers perceived more similarity in the extended products when the extended products maintain more consistent attributes with their parent product, 2) the higher the perceived similarity was then the higher the brand extension effect, and 3) brand relationship quality moderated the influence of perceived similarity on attitude and purchase intention. When consumers build a high relationship quality with a brand, then the brand extension effect is likely to be high regardless of the perceived similarity of the extended products. This study consequently has its own contribution in that it empirically examined the brand extension effect in the fashion field and evidenced the role of BRQ in brand extension.

  • The purpose of this study is to compare the similarity of clothing between Modern and Gothic, and between Post-Modern and Renaissance Period. The results are as followes: The beauty of ideal body was changed from unemphasis of body line to emphasis of the erotic espects of body. The style of clothing was changed from simple and functional in order to give freedom in action, to various and complicated in from, and even uncomfortable in order to emphasize individuality. Decoration on clothing like details, trimmings, and various accessories were not prefered in Gothic and Modem Period, but very popular in Post-Modern and Renaissance Period.

  • Comparison studies of the Quantitative Structure Activity Relationship (QSAR) methods with new imidazo-quinolinedione derivatives were conducted using Comparative Molecular Field Analysis (CoMFA), Comparative Molecular Similarity Indices Analysis (CoMSIA), and the Hologram Quantitative Structure Activity Relationship (HQSAR). When the CoMFA crossvalidation value, q2, was 0.625, the Pearson correlation coefficient, r2, was 0.973. In CoMSIA, q2 was 0.52 and r2 was 0.979. In the HQSAR, q2 was 0.501 and r2 was 0.924. The best result was obtained using the CoMSIA method according to a comparison of the calculated values with the real in vitro cytotoxic activities against human ovarian cancer cell lines.
