Building structures which are in need of large open space make the damping effect of the structures decrease greatly. Assembly and office buildings with a lower natural frequency have a higher possibility of experiencing excessive vibration induced by human activities. These excessive vibration make the residents uncomfortable and the serviceability deterioration. The loads induced by human activities were classified into two types. First type is in place loads as like jumping, foot stamping and body bouncing. The other type is moving loads as like walking, running and dancing. A series of laboratories experiments had been conducted to study the dynamic loads induced by human activities, The earlier works were mainly concerned to parameters study of dynamic loads as like activity type, weight, sex, surface condition of structure and etc. In this paper, we have measured directly the walking loads by using the platform. And we have evaluated and analyzed load-time history of walking loads. One of the most important parameter is pacing rate (walking speed) in the walking loads. The difference between the maximum value and minimum value of walking loads depends on the walking speed.
Method: We reviewed the papers of communication analysis studies in various fields and summarized communication error researches. Results: We proposed perspectives for communication error analysis and explained the need for extended analysis framework using advanced human-machine interfaces, which will cause the change of communication between operation team, including shifted abstraction phenomena. And we describe main concepts and the case study of H-H-S framework and finally introduce current studies of communication analysis in nuclear domain. Conclusion: The goal of communication analysis is common in all industries. We have to share and co-work for event prevention. Application: The results of the communication analysis might help to facilitate the understanding for interested researchers.
Elimination of dangerous points is the most effective method for safety in mechanical equipments. The next effective method is recognized as isolation and/or safe-guarding of dangerous spots from human beings. With progress of mechanical automation technique such as industrial robots, the need for safe-guard-ins is now being enlarged. It is needless to say that when a machine-guard is designed and installed, a comprechensive understanding of human movement is indispensable. But in this country, there is no scientific for those thems, and no one verifield whether it is valid to apply general guideline such as OSHA's to Korean or not. Further, basic anthropometric items for safety reach standards are neither availble nor included in nation-wide anthropometry project. In this research, human anthropometry data of Korean youngsters are analyzed for safety barrier and safety slit width, and compared with guidelines of other countries-Germany, United Kingdom, Japan, and USA. Though they are standards for safety, since they are based upon their own peoples' data, some of them especially foot reach are not not applicable in this country. It should be notified that careful application of numeric value is very important.
Many types of disasters are related to environmental problems. Today, frequently occurring disasters and global environmental problems have begun to threaten human life and welfare. Consequently, building sustainable communities requires assessing relationships between environmental problems and disasters using a broad, open approach and with a long-term perspective. This paper attempts to identify the need for conceptualizing disasters and environmental problems together by comparing mechanisms of both disasters and environmental problems, and attempts to integrate both of these seemingly different types of phenomena as similar types of risk threatening human existence. Based on this work, a chart is proposed for qualitatively organizing disasters, environmental problems and their mutual influences, as well as providing a framework for potential quantitative analysis. It is hoped this research serves to contribute to effective mitigation to both disasters and environmental problems in today's age of global environmental issues.
Human Genome Project (HGP) could unveil the secrets of human being by a long script of genetic codes, which enabled us to get access to mine the cause of diseases more efficiently. Two wheels for HGP, bioinformatics and high throughput technology are essential techniques for the genomic medicine. While microarray platforms are still evolving, we can screen more than 500,000 genotypes at once. Even we can sequence the whole genome of an organism within a day. Because the future medicne will focus on the genetic susceptibility of individuals, we need to find genetic variations of each person by efficient genotyping methods.
Development of artificial intelligence is expected to revolutionize today's medicine. In fact, medicine was one of the areas to which advances in artificial intelligence technology were first applied. Recently, state-of-the-art artificial intelligence, especially deep learning technology, has been actively utilized to treat cancer patients and analyze medical image data. Application of artificial intelligence has the potential to fundamentally change various aspects of medicine, including the role of human doctors, the clinical decision-making process, and even overall healthcare systems. Facing such fundamental changes is unavoidable, and we need to prepare to effectively integrate artificial intelligence into our medical system. We should re-define the role of human doctors, and accordingly, medical education should also be altered. In this article, we will discuss the current status of artificial intelligence in medicine and how we can prepare for such changes.
The impacts that AI and robotics systems can and will have on our everyday lives are already making themselves manifest. However, there is a lack of research on the ethical impacts and means for amelioration regarding AI and robotics within tourism and hospitality. Given the importance of designing technologies that cross national boundaries, and given that the tourism and hospitality industry is fundamentally predicated on multicultural interactions, this is an area of research and application that requires particular attention. Specifically, tourism and hospitality have a range of context-unique stakeholders that need to be accounted for in the salient design of AI systems is to be achieved. This paper adopts a stakeholder approach to develop the conceptual framework to centralize human values in designing and deploying AI and robotics systems in tourism and hospitality. The conceptual framework includes several layers - 'Human-human-AI' interaction level, direct and indirect stakeholders, and the macroenvironment. The ethical issues on each layer are outlined as well as some possible solutions to them. Additionally, the paper develops a research agenda on the topic.
The current facility condition monitoring has disadvantages such as a slow inspection cycle, a risk of human casualties, and the need for a lot of time and money as the size of the structure is larger, because human access is required with limited use. Drones can reduce the risk of human casualties due to their good accessibility, and can compensate for the shortcomings of the current method by enabling monitoring on a wide scale. The goal of this study is to provide the current domestic monitoring process through benchmarking according to the recent research case of the US Department of Transportation (DOT) to suggest a process suitable for the domestic situation and the direction of future improvement measures.
The purpose of this paper is to review a variety of challenges facing the Human Performance Technology (HPT) in supporting knowledge workers' performance, and to explore possible HPT models for knowledge workers. The first section of this paper investigates the core attributes and major models of HPT as a foundation. While HPT has a lot of strengths in terms of systemic, systematic, methodologically eclectic, evidence based, and results oriented approaches, some pitfalls - which could be detected if these principles were mindlessly applied to problem areas - are explored. The second section presents some considerations such as analysis, intervention design, and leadership that HP technologists need to take in order to make HPT a better field of practice for knowledge workers. The author also suggests a tentative diagnostic model and a process model for knowledge workers, core principles of which are based on systems thinking, in particular Senge's the fifth discipline and Checkland's soft systems methodology. The importance of formative evaluations to improve these models is noted as a conclusion.
Due to the improvement in life, we, human beings, are living in the more convenient world. However, as society gets complex, it comes to be faced a dangerous situation that needs to request a help due to an unexpected accident. The promptly emergency relief and emergency treatment from this accident, can be said to be extremely important in increasing a rate of resuscitation. This study analyzed on a case study and problems about the Emergency Medical System out of hospital in our country. The contents in the results of a study can be summarized as follows. 1. given the occurrence of medical disputes in a situation of emergency treatment, the regulation in the legal protection 'Will need to be reinforced. 2. in relation to the mobilization of ambulance, the preferentially passage right in ambulance needs to be guaranteed. In general, the preferentially passage right in ambulance is secured, but it will need to be supplemented by improving the education in civic consciousness and the social system. 3. in case of emergency duties in the emergency medical technician, the countermeasure will need to be strengthened in terms of abusive language and violence from a citizen. 4. in terms of emergency duties in the emergency medical technician, aiming to keep safety from a sudden situation, the possession of the protective equipments will need to be completely provided. 5. the limitation of activity will need to be eased by expanding the range of duties in the emergency medical technician within the ambulance, and the opening of duties will need not to be allowed to the similarly job category. 6. it needs to be reinforced the safety of the emergency medical technician from infectious diseases. Aiming at these emergency medical technicians whose service spirit is thoroughgoing, the nation and the local government will need to form all the conditions in which emergency medical technicians can be active passionately.
