  • Biotope Area Ratio ($BFF; BiotopFl{\"{a}}chenFaktor$) was developed in Berlin, Germany in 1990s and introduced to Korea in 1999. It is the ratio of the uncovered soil areas which have the natural circulating capability compared to whole development areas. This study seeks for alternative ways to increase Biotope Area Ratio of residential areas in the metropolitan areas of Korea by investigation on new housing developments. The study investigates four new towns including Seoul Eunpyung new town, Yongin Kusung district, Goyang Pungdong and Juyeopdong districts and Hwasung Dongtan district. The Biotope Area Ratio of study sites is between 23.51 % and 40.69%. This result is not relevant to land use conditions, such as the building-ta-land ratio, natural ground green area ratio. This ratio satisfies the minimum requirements of City of Seoul, except 2 sites. Considering that the study sites are relatively low density land use areas compared to Seoul's average, thus, a higher standards is necessary for new town housing complexes. Because Biotope Area Ratio includes artificial ground green area ratio, Biotope Area Ratio is possible can be increased with decreased natural ground green area ratio. And so, when Biotope Area Ratio is applied to new town development, it must go side by side with a definite natural ground green area ratio.

  • Recently, the expansion of housing developments has reduced green areas in cities. The reduction of green areas caused many negative effects on human beings. For functional improvement of ecosystem, government focuses on artificial ground greening because it gives improving microclimate and saving energy consumption. This research aims to develop the system to support decision making of greening for artificial ground greening. This system consist of rooftop greening, wall greening, and street greening system which can suggest proper type of greening and calculate the effect of the greening considering the proponents inputs. It presents social, economic, and ecological value such as cost, energy saving, and temperature reduction. As it is web-based system users can easily access with internet. This system provides automatic selection modes. As a result, with this developed web-based system, decision makers can evaluate the effect of artificial ground green easily and the support to such movement will increase.

  • Purpose: Domestically, a recent controversial part on Mixed-Use Development is its case that utilizes railroad sites among urban infrastructure. but most of all, a concern is being concentrated on the Mixed-Use Development that uses railroad depot. It has the advantage, which can give diversity and publicness to urban environment by using and planing the upper and bottom of railroad depot, a proximity site as Development Available Land. However, there are few cases except for only Yang-cheon APT in SinJeong railway depot as a domestic case even though a domestic concern about Mixed-Use Development is rising more than ever. Method: Accordingly, this study has something in common with a domestic case, dealing with a case of development in Hongkong that enhances efficiency for city space through Mixed-Use Development and solves various urban problems. Result: A purpose of this study, based on overall comprehension about Rail and Property Model of MTRC in Hongkong, is to figure out how it solve various problems in Mixed-Use Development using Railway Depot or stations in the base of Rail and Property Model of MTRC.
