  • 1. In oriental medicine, the case of sinusitis can be explained, not only external invasion such as PUNG HAN(wind-cold), PUNG YUL(wind-hot), SHUP YUL(damp-heat), but also functional disorder of internal organ such as spleen(脾), lung(肺), kidney(腎) The western medicine classified the cause of sinusitis as two factors. That is bacterial infection factor-Haemophilus influenza, streptococcus pyogeues, streptococcus pneumonia- and viral infection factor-Rhinovirus, parainfluenza, Echo28, Coxsacki21, Sinusitis is complicated to allergic rhinitis, chronic otitis media purulent, chronic tonsilitis, sinubronchitis. On the condition of nasal septum deformity, turbinates deformity, nasal septum deviation, sinusitis can be developed. the predisposing factors of sinusitis is swimming, air pollution, malnutrition, shortage of immunity.2. According to survey, sinusitis occurred that children from 4 to 12 years old and from 5 to 7 years old occupied 70% 3. From the past history data, they experienced chronic tonsillar hypertropy(20%), otitis media, atopic dermatitis, allergic rhinitis, bronchial asthma, pneumonia, bronchiolitis, chronic sore throat, urticaria, milk allergy in sequence. 4. the symptoms of sinusitis is nasal obstruction, postnasal dripping, purulunt(yellow)or white discharge, cough, nose bleeding in sequence. nasal obstruction take the portion of 95%, postnasal dripping 65%, night time or early morning cough 60%. 5. The suffering period of sinusitis is 6 month minimum, 4 years maximum, most cases are included in a year. The suffering period of children was shorter than adult. 6. Diagnosis depend on inspection of nasal cavity, postnasal dripping, X-ray finding. 75% of patient(15case) showed both maxillary sinusitis, 25%(5cases) showed left or right maxillary sinusitis. 7. Treatment of oriental medicine, consist of Herb-medicine, acupuncture and exposing of Lazer beam. Kamihyunggyeyungyotang(加味荊芥蓮翹湯) is administered mainly as the medical therapy, Kamigwaghyangjeungkisan(加味藿香正氣散) Kimizwakwieum(加味左歸飮), Kamihyangsosan(加味香蘇散) is administered for a additional symptoms which occurred by influenza recurrence. Kamijeonxibackchulsan(加味錢氏白朮散) is administered to treat gastro-intestine trouble patients who have sinusitis. 8. The period of treatment is varied with patient conditions and X-ray finding. The minimal period is 35days, maximal period is 202days. So it took about 86days in average and about 50% of patient(10cases) is recovered in one or two month.

Analysis of Binder Aging Levels in Asphalt Mixture Caused by Short-term Aging Conditions Using the GPC Technique (GPC를 이용한 아스팔트 혼합물의 단기노화 조건에 따른 노화도 분석)

  • PURPOSES : This study aims to show the difference of the binder aging level in the hot-mix asphalt (HMA) mixture after short-term aging (SA) under different aging conditions, such as mixture temperature and duration in hour. METHODS : Three SA times (i.e., 1 h, 2 h, and 4 h) at two temperatures (i.e., $160^{\circ}C$ and $180^{\circ}C$) were used for the normal mixtures prepared using a PG64-22 asphalt. The field long-term aging (LA) was simulated by applying the same LA procedure (65 h at $110^{\circ}C$) to all compacted specimens, prepared at the air void of 7% using each SA-treated mixture, in a convection oven. The binder aging level was measured in terms of large molecular size by gel-permeation chromatography (GPC) from the mixture and the absolute viscosity (AV) from the recovered binder. The aging levels were evaluated using those two properties after SA and LA, and then compared based on the normal SA (NSA) mixture (1 h at $160^{\circ}C$). The service life reduction caused by SA in various conditions was estimated based on the aging level of the field cores from different locations in various service lives. RESULTS : The results of the laboratory evaluation indicated that the binder of the mixture, which was treated at longer SA time and higher temperature, showed a significantly higher aging level than the NSA mixture. The binder aging level from a longer time, such as 2 h and 4 h SA, or at a higher temperature ($180^{\circ}C$), were estimated to be similar to that of the mixtures, which had already been in field service for several years. CONCLUSIONS : The HMA mixture should be produced at a moderate temperature, such as $160^{\circ}C$, and placed within a limited hauling and queuing time to avoid a significant short-term aging of the binder before placement in the field pavement. The SA for a longer time at a higher temperature than the NSA condition was found to be detrimental to the service life of the asphalt pavement.

Phenolic contents and physiological properties of Pleurotus ostreatus by drying method and 30% fermented ethanol extraction for different periods (느타리버섯류의 자실체 건조 방법 및 주정 추출 기간별 페놀성 성분 함량 및 생리활성 효능 비교)

  • The total polyphenol and physiological activities of Pleurotus ostreatus 30% fermented ethanol using different drying methods and extraction periods were investigated. Based on the observed polyphenol content and physiological activity, freeze-drying showed better results than hot air-drying method for P. ostreatus extracted with 30% fermented ethanol for more than 15 days. The total phenolic compound content of 'Gosol' following thefreeze-drying method for 15 days showed the highest value of $0.49{\pm}0.02mg/mL$. Freeze-drying with extraction for 30 days for ASI 2344 showed the highest antioxidant activity based on the DPPH radical scavenging rate of $35.50{\pm}3.29%$. Freeze-drying 'Gosol' for 30 days resulted inthe highest anti-inflammatory and nitrite scavenging activity of $48.40{\pm}3.38%$. Our results showed that P. ostreatus is a functional food.

Comparison of Active and Passive Sampling Methods for Formaldehyde Concentrations Among Workplaces in Some Plywood Industries (능동포집과 확산포집법에 의한 일부합판제조업의 공정별 포름알데하이드 농도 비교)

  • This study was designed to survey exposure levels of formaldehyde among workplaces in some plywood industries and to compare three sampling methods including the impinger method(IM, NIOSH method No. 3500), the solid sorbent tube method(SS, NIOSH method No. 2541), and the passive bubbler monitor method(PB, SKC). The survey was conducted in seven particle board manufacturing factories, two resin manufacturing factories and two plywood manufacturing factories in Incheon area during the period from March 6 to April 20, 1995. The workplaces included were the hot/cold press, the roller/spreader, the soaking/drying, and the reaction/mixing areas. The results were as follows; 1. The average(GM, GSD) concentrations of formaldehyde by sampling methods were 0.11(4.43) ppm by IM, 0.27(2.03) ppm by SS, and 0.29(2.04) ppm by PB, respectively. The concentrations by 1M method were statistically very significantly lower than those of SS and PB methods, particularly at low air borne concentrations of formaldehyde (p<0.001). 2. The area average concentrations of formaldehyde by workplaces measured with PB bubblers were 0.23(2.08) ppm from the press, 0.23(1.77) ppm from the spreader, 0.24(1.51) ppm from the soaking, and 0.46(1.96) ppm from the reaction areas, respectively. The personal average concentrations of formaldehyde by workplaces measured with PB bubblers were 0.30(1.77) ppm from the press, 0.33(1.54) ppm from the spreader, 0.36(1.46) ppm from the soaking, and 0.84(1.19) ppm from the reaction areas, respectively. 3. No statistically significant differences of formaldehyde concentrations among workplaces except the reaction area(p<0.001) were found. 4. Formaldehyde concentrations from personal samples were higher than those of from area sam pies in all workplaces studied. But no statistically significant differences of formaldehyde concentrations both area and personal samples were found. In conclusion, this study found that although formaldehyde concentrations in some plywood industries in Incheon area were below the regulatory limit of 1 ppm, they were over the limits recommended by NIOSH and ACGIH. This study also suggests that the impinger method may underestimate true formaldehyde concentrations. It implies that there will be more workplaces not meeting current regulatory limit if either the solid sorbent or passive bubbler methods were used instead of the impinger method. It is suggested that passive monitors will be a reasonable alternative for area and personal sampling of formaldehyde if the accuracy and validity of passive monitors be verified before use.

Absorption Characteristcs of Dried Shiitake Mushroom Powder Using Different Drying Methods (건조방법에 따른 표고버섯분말의 흡습특성)

  • In this study, shiitake mushrooms were dried by hot air, vacuum and freeze drying methods and theire physical properties were compared. Since the pore size affects the amount of absorption, the characteristics of water sorption were investigated at various humidities and temperatures. Results showed that the freeze dried product had the greatest pore area and the highest absorption capacity. However, all the dried samples showed similar quality. The browning degrees were severely changed with increased relative humidities and temperatures. Among these drying methods, the freeze drying gave the greatest change in browning degree. The GAB monolayer moisture contents of the dried shiitake mushroom were $5.3{\sim}7.7%$. The prediction model was also provided using parameters such as relative humidity, temperature and pore area.

Effects of Sweet Persimmon Powder Type on Quality Properties of Low Salted Pork Patties during Cold Storage (단감분말 첨가 유형에 따른 저염 미트패티제품의 저온저장 중 품질특성)

  • Four different pork patties were made with two levels, HP/FP-3% and HP/FP-6%, containing 3.0 and 6.0% HP(hot air dried sweet persimmon powder)/FP(freeze-dried sweet persimmon powder), respectively. After manufacture, the meat patties were packaged with  polyvinyl wrap and stored at 4℃ for 8 days. CTL(control) and HP-3% meat patties were significantly(p<0.05) higher in moisture content than the other samples. FP-6% was found higher in protein content than the other treatments. FP-3% had a higher fat content than other meat patty samples. However, ash contents were not found significantly(p>0.05) different among the meat patty samples. The value of pH, L* and a* values were decreased as the cold storage time increased in all treatments(p<0.05). WHC(water holding capacity) of CTL and HP-6% and cooking loss of HP-3% were significantly(p<0.05) decreased with increased storage period. The diameter and thickness of all meat patties decreased with increasing the storage period. VBN(volatile basic nitrogen) values of all meat patties were increased(p<0.05) with increased storage period. TBARS (thiobarbituric acid reactive substance) of treatments were higher than that of CTL during whole storage time. The number of microorganisms(Total plate counts, Escherichia coli.) were maintained below 4.61 log10 CFU/cm2 during the whole storage period. In sensory evaluation, treatment groups had higher(p<0.05) scores in aroma, flavor, color and overall acceptability.

Effect of Drying Methods of Rice Flour on Growth Properties of Bacillus cereus and Enterobacter sakazakii (쌀가루의 건조방법에 따른 Bacillus cereus와 Enterobacter sakazakii 생육 억제 특성)

  • In order to sterilize Bacillus cereus and Enterobacter sakazakii in rice flour, hot-air drying ($65^{\circ}C$/15 min, HT) and microwave drying (700 watt/30 sec, MT) treatments were evaluated and a storage study performed. Color changes (${\Delta}E$) appeared to be less in the MT rice flour than in HT treated rice flour. The effectiveness of the MT treatment showed reduced growth rates for B. cereus (0.54 log CFU/g) and E. sakazakii (1.45 log CFU/g). The populations of B. cereus in the control (NT) rice flour greatly increased during storage at 4, 10 and $20^{\circ}C$ as storage times increased. However, the growth of B. cereus was minimized in the MT rice flour. In conclusion, MT treatment is considered to be a good drying method when substituted for HT treatment to assure microbial safety in rice flour.

Effect of Drying Process on Cow Manure Solidified Fuel Applications (건조방법 형태에 따른 우분 고체연료 수분 감소효과)

  • The drying test was carried on the globular type cow manure pellet for use in solid fuel applications. The globular type cow manure pellet fuel was sorted according to size by rotatory sieves. The three kind of drying methods such as convection hot-air drying method, infrared ray drying method and superheated steam method were used to dry the globular type cow manure pellet. Among the three kind of drying methods, superheated steam method of dry time was the shortest. The apparent specific gravity and low calorific value of dried cow manure pelltes was about $250{\sim}350kg/m^3$ and above 3,000 kcal/kg respectively. The smaller the particle size of cow manure pellets, the less drying time was required. The time was required very less for drying smaller particle size cow manure pellet when compared to larger size. In the case of the same drying condition, it has been found that reducing the particle size of cow manure fuel pellet is an important factor for shortening the drying time of the livestock manure pellet.

A study of geothermal heat dump for solar collectors overheat protection (태양열 집열관 과열방지를 위한 지중열교환기 연구)

  • The heating load using solar hot water is lower in summer than in the other seasons. This decreased heating load leads to the overheating solar collectors and related components. To prevent overheating of the solar collectors, air cooling and shading shields were used. On the other hand, it requires additional mechanical components, and reduces the system reliability. The geothermal heat dump system to release the high temperature heat (over $150^{\circ}C$) transferred from the heat pipe solar collectors was investigated in the present study. Research on the heat dump to cool the solar collector is rare. Therefore, the present study was carried out to collect possible data of a geothermal heat dump to cool the solar collector. A helical type geothermal heat exchanger was buried at a 1.2m depth. Experimentally and numerically, the geothermal heat dump was investigated in terms of the effects of parameters, such as the quantity of solar radiation, aperture area of the collector and the mass flow rate. A pipe length of 50m on the geothermal heat exchanger was suitable with a 0.33 kg/s flow rate. The water reservoir was a possible co-operation solution linked to the geothermal heat exchanger.

  • Histamine has been known to be one of the causative materials of allergy-like food poisoning from eating of the meat of the dark-fleshed fishes. In the previous study, we had reported the changes of histamine contents fin three kinds of the dark-fleshed fishes. The present paper was also conducted to investigate the changes of the histamine contents in the mackerel pike, and compare with the white-fleshed fish, spanish mackerel, under different condition of storage and processing. The formation of histamine in the muscle of mackerel pike was markedly higher than spanish mackerel. Referring to temperature, the formation of histamine at $12^{\circ}C$ was observed more rapid than that at $2^{\circ}C$. In the muscle of mackerel pike, the histamine contents reached the levels of 98.3mg/100g for at the storage for 5 days at $12^{\circ}C$. But in that of spanish mackerel, the content showed the level of 4.9mg/100g at the storage 7 days at $12^{\circ}C$. The histamine contents in sun dried products of the samples were higher than those of rat-materials, salted or hot-air dried products.
