  • Hot shearing is a method of producing various high-quality planar machine parts by using reduced punch load. In order to predict the results of this process, the deformation behavior of work material at elevated temperatures need to be studied. In this research, a tensile test was carried out for 5052 aluminum alloy at high temperatures of $240-540^{\circ}C$ and strain rates of 0.001-0.1/s. The results of the tensile tests were studied to predict the deformation of the alloy during the hot shearing process. The results showed that hot shearing within a temperature range of $340-440^{\circ}C$ and a strain rate rage of 0.001-01/s will be the most effective in reducing punch load and increasing the sheared edge in the case of 5052 aluminum alloy.

  • Hot shear-welding is a process of bonding two plates together by using shearing stress in a controlled manner. This study dealt with the hot shear-welding process of two aluminum plates. These two plates were piles up in the shear-welding mold. Due to the shearing stress, these two plates were cut off longitudinally, and meantime they were welded together. During this process the control of the surplus material flow is very important, and it can be realized by designing the overlapping length and the shape of the cavity. The commercial software Deform-3D was employed to predict the effect of these two factors. The overlapping length and the shape of the cavity that presents the optimum design was then developed to get a good shear-welding process.

  • 15Cr-1Mo base oxide dispersion strengthened (ODS) steel which is considered to be as a promising candidate for high- temperature components in nuclear fusion and fission systems because of its excellent high temperature strength, corrosion and radiation resistance was fabricated by using mechanical alloying, hot isostatic pressing and hot rolling. Torsion tests were performed at room temperature, leading to two different shear strain routes in the forward and reverse directions. In this study, microstructure evolution of the ODS steel during simple shearing was investigated. Fine grained microstructure and a cell structure of dislocation with low angle boundaries were characterized with shear strain in the shear deformed region by electron backscattered diffraction (EBSD). Grain refinement with shear strain resulted in an increase in hardness. After the forward-reverse torsion, the hardness value was measured to be higher than that of the forward torsion only with an identical shear strain amount, suggesting that new dislocation cell structures inside the grain were generated, thus resulting in a larger strengthening of the steel.

  • This study is performed for investigating the effects of stripping and counter punching force on shearing characteristics in fine blanking, such as camber, burr-height and dimensional accuracy, etc by experiments. Conventional hydraulic press equipped with specially designed hydraulic unit is used for experiments so that both the stripping force and counter punching force are arbitrarily adjusted according to experimental conditions. Two kinds of materials, hot rolled steel sheet(1mm, 3mm) and pure aluminum(1mm, 3mm) are selected in order to examine the influence of strength and thickness of working materials in blanking of T-shaped products. Based on the experimental results of this study, it can be concluded that the finely cut surface of sheared blank can be obtained even in conventional hydraulic press if additional equipments and special dies are employed.

  • In this study, a cyclic tensile test on a notched butterfly specimen made of woven glass fiber composite was performed on a modified Arcan fixture. During the mechanical test, the sample was monitored with a hybrid stereoscopic system comprised of two visible lights and one infrared camera. The visible light cameras were employed for kinematic measurements using a finite-element-based multiview correlation technique. A semi-hybrid correlation approach was followed, providing Lagrangian temperature fields of the Region of Interest. Due to the complex composite architecture and specimen shape, localized shearing was observed during the tensile loading. Furthermore, asymmetrical damage developed around the notches as revealed by localized strains and thermal hot spots.

  • The age unknown Ogcheon metasedimentary rocks and the Jurassic Ogcheon granite (Jocgr) intruding it are distributed in the Ogcheon area, which is located in the central part of the Ogcheon Belt, Korea, This paper newly examines the timing of Honam shearing on the basis of the microstructural researches on time-relationship between the crenulation of Ogcheon metasedimentary rocks and the contact metamorphism by the intrusion of Jocgr. The D2 crenulation phase, which is defined by the microfolding of the S1 foliation in the metasedimentary rocks, is divided into two sub-phases. The one is a sub-phase of Early crenulation (D2a) which is included within old andalusite porphyroblasts, and the other is that of Late crenulation (D2b) which warps around the old andalusite. But they show the same dextral shear sense, the axial planes parallel to each other, and a single crenulation at outcrop scale. The contact metamorphism of andalusite-sillimanite type by the Jocgr occurred during the inter-phases of D2a and D2b, and crystallized the old andalusite masking the D2a crenulation and fibrous sillimanites replacing the D2a crenulation-forming muscovites. New andalusite porphyroblasts synkinematically grew in pressure shadows around the old andalusite or in its outermost mantles during the early stage of the D2b. The D2b occurred still continuously after the growth of the andalusite ceased (= later stage of the D2b). It indicates that the D2b occurred continuously during the period when the Ogcheon granite was still hot and cool. From this study, the crenulation history of Ogcheon metasedimentary rocks and the timing of Honam shearing would be newly established and reviewed as follows. (1) Early Honam shearing; formative period of Early crenulation, (2) main magmatic period of Jurassic granitoids; growth of the old andalusite and fibrous sillimanite by the intrusion of Jocgr, (3) main cooling period of Jurassic granitoids; formative period of Late crenulation related to Late Honam shearing, growth of the new andalusite in the early stage of D2b. Thus, this study proposes that the Honam shear movement would occur two times at least before and after the intertectonic phase which corresponds to the main magmatic period of Jurassic granitoids.

  • Wood chips of oak(Quercus mongolica) and larch(Larix leptolepis) were treated with low pressure steaming explosion. Main components of exploded wood were separated with hot water and methanol extraction. Crude lignin separated from those extractives were purified and those chemical characteristics were investigated. And also, lignin adhesive was prepared from crude lignin and studied those chemical characteristics. The results can be summarized as follows ; 1. The purified lignin by Bj$\ddot{o}$kman's method from crude lignin is about 30% in exploded oak wood and is about 11% in exploded larch wood as a low amount. 2. The phenolic hydroxyl groups in the purified lignins are little higher than those of MWL and molecular weight distributions of the purified lignins are some lower than that of MWL. 3. Alkaline nitrobenzene oxidation products are very low in the clude lignin but those are increased in the purified lignin 4. The gravity of lignin resins(1.15 and 1.13) are a little lower than that of phenol resin(1.16) and the compressive shearing strength of lignin resins are higher than those of phenol resin.

  • This study is performed for investigating the effects of stripping and counter punching forces on shearing characteristics in fine blanking of T-shaped products, such as camber, burr-height and dimensional accuracy, etc by experiments. Conventional hydraulic press is used for experiments so that both the stripping force and counter punching force can be arbitrarily adjusted by another hydraulic unit connected to the fine blanking die. Specimens are selected as hot rolled steel sheet and carbon steel sheet commonly used in auto- mobile company. Based on the experimental results, both the dimensional accuracy and the burr height are not influenced by the stripping and counter punching forces, wherease the camber height representing dish- shaped deflection is much influenced by them, it can be seen through this study that the finely cut surface of T-shaped blank can be obtained even in conventional hydraulic press if additional equipments and specially designed die are employed.

  • Eco-friendly and health-functional clothing is now becoming the target of the worldwide hot trends. The purpose of this study is to develop an eco-friendly textiles to decrease environmental pollution and to be harmless for human health by investigating how the natural chorangak liquid treatment affects the changes of mechanical properties and the hand of silk fabrics according to different treatment conditions. Treatment was varied with various temperatures ($85^{\circ}C$, $90^{\circ}C$, $95^{\circ}C$) for 90 seconds after degumming. The results were as follows: 1) The natural chorangak liquid is the most effective at the ratio of glacial acid 200ml with eggshell 20g minimizing the time limit and sludge reduction. Its treatment of silk fabrics is optimized at $90^{\circ}C$ for 90 seconds with 25% conc. after degumming when considering tenacity and elongation. 2) After the treatment, tenacity and elongation of specimen are increased compared with those of degummed silk fabrics. 3) After analyzing the effect of the treatment on the characteristic values of basic mechanical properties of silk fabrics, mechanical properties (tensile, bending, shearing, compression, surface) are overall improved. The properties of thickness and weight are increased as well. 4) Based on the clear analysis on effects of the treatment on the mechanical properties and the hand of silk fabrics, the level of THV was enhanced from good to excellent. Therefore, chorangak liquid can be utilized satisfactorily as a new finishing agent for developing eco-friendly textiles.
